Randy Travis is one of my all time favorites. Growing up listening to country in the 80s and 90s, his voice embodies all that country music was at that time.

Randy is North Carolina boy and we are so proud of him here. He almost died many years ago and has never recuperated fully. He can no longer sing or really even talk and he has trouble walking as well. He is still an important figure in country music and is loved and respected by all. His wife Mary has been by his side every step of the way and is his rock.

Randy Travis has not only a gorgeous voice but the emotion along with it. He can sing any ballad and make it come alive in his delivery. Such a treasure of a singer and such a beautiful interpreter of lyrics. He is a gem. He deserved all the fame and recognition he received even though he wasn't looking for it. He was born with a gift and had to sing and did so. I saw him in concert in 1986 along with K.T. Oslin and Tammy Wynette. Truly wonderful performances although Randy was the headliner at that time.

There really aren't any *bad* Randy Travis songs.... he's a standard setter.... his lyrics are amazing. His vocal style is evident in more contemporary country artists like Josh Turner and Scotty McCreery.

In the 80s. Randy Travis brought back traditional country. He has many good songs. To suggest a few:
    "Deeper Than The Holler"
    "He Walked On Water"
    "Better Class of Losers"

He was just getting the great career & had a stroke I believe. That was a long time ago & a couple years ago they actually got him to the awards. Like lifetime achievement or something. But they actually got him to the microphone and said a few words, straining to do it. Still had a huge smile! I pray he get back to normal. We've got some great music from him & we need to cherish it!! ❤

@mrlboydmusic, If you like this Randy Travis tune, you should listen to “Smoking the Hive” that he does a duet with Clint Eastwood. That one will make you think a whole different way about reaching for the honey. Lol.

To me Randy embodied Old Country... from the 60's to the 80's... My Pop-Pop raised me old country.. I grew up in 80's/90's.. but his voice reminded me of the old stuff and I love it.

Just seeing this in June 2024. I love old school country, as well as many other genres of music. I do fear that we are losing "old school country" and moving to crap like Florida Georgia Line.

He is with someone new and has been for a while. When he had his stroke, she was right there. His first wife he was with her from the time he was 16. She was a little older. But she sold her club and moved him to help him with his dream. He has and had two amazing women. He is a good man.

Sometimes you should remember that you're not doing book reports in these videos. It's music that has poetry written with it. The message of this song is... There might be a temptation on that first hand, but the golden band means more to you than that temptation. So, by jumping the gun on this song (book) your report on it came up empty. The song is supposed to bring a chuckle from the listener.

Two great songs by Randy Travis that you should react to are: It's Just a Matter of Time and Diggin' Up Bones. It's Just a Matter of Time is a cover of a Brook Benton song that was recorded way back in 1959. I love Randy Travis and I love his cover of this song but I actually might like the original by Brook Benton even better because Brook's version of this is absolutely beautiful. In fact, you might want to react to this song by Brook and Randy both. A lot of people compared Hurt by Johnny Cash to the original by NIN so maybe that would be a good thing to do with Matter of Time.

You misread the point of this song. This song isn't about a married man just meeting another woman and contemplating his options between the two; rather, it is about an ongoing affair he is having with the other woman. He never mentions meeting her, but references having been with her for a while. For example, he says "...I could stay and be your loving man...". The option to "stay" wouldn't be an option unless he is already with her (her place, or bed). What he is contemplating is staying with her for good. When he says the golden band on his other hand is the reason he must go, he's not saying he is choosing to go. Rather, he is saying that he choose her over his wife because of the marriage. Like you said, alimony and other consequences come with eding a marriage (including custody if children are involved). Therefore, he is wrestling between what he wants (the other woman), and what he must go back to (his wife). In the end, he is having to try and have his cake and eat it too, since that is his only choice if he wants to keep his heart satisfied and avoid a messy divorce. It's a cheatin' song, not a considering cheatin' song.

You're right...I think some people just give up on marriage though. My husnand and I have been married 50 years and we have had, like many couples, our ups and downs. It's easier to give up sometimes, but we have hung in there because we love each other. That's the secret ingredient!
