    - That KILLER riff at the beginning
    - The intensity of the lyrics and vocals
    - That uncanny melodic power related to the meaning of the song
    - That blasting keyboard solo with a sudden, monstruous rythm shift.
    - and most of all, those small epic packs of Metropolis P1...
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST DREAM THEATER SONGS EVER MADE.

    My mind drips desire

Could carry on with this life
    But I can't resist myself
No matter how hard I try

    Victoria watches and thoughtfully smiles
She's taking me to my home
Help - he's my brother, but I love her
I can't keep away from her touch
    Deception, dishonor
It's calling me back to my home
Her story - it holds the key
    Unlocking dreams from my memory
    Solving this mystery
Is everything that is a part of me
    Help - regression, obsession
I can't keep away from her touch
Leave no doubt, to find out

Petrucci's guitar solo starting at 9:22 is one of his best creations in early OG Dream Theater Era (1989 - 1999), up there with the Voices solo and the Scarred solo in Awake and Lines in the Sand solo in Falling into Infinity. This Home solo is particularly impressive in its multi-part composition and complexity. The underlying rhythm section changes multiple times as the different parts of the solo are introduced and in each part Petrucci shows some kind of technical prowess. He did the same thing with the Voices solo, another multi-part solo, but those parts lie on the same rhythmic underlying section. The Homo solo is more impressive.

I agree man, I rarely see people mentioning Home as one of Petrucci’s greatest solos, when it clearly is. Such an underrated gem of a solo, full of intensity and emotion behind so much speed and virtuosity.

  • @alfonso4740

It's complex but clear, not all is being fast or extremely virtuous. The songwriting, melodies, meaning, all these have more importance to make a true masterpiece. Dream Theater was highly inspired in this album. I personally miss the style of the 90s and early 2000s in Dream Theater since then.

Falling victim to a radical new virus, Goku passed from the Earth leaving his loved one behind. Unfortunately this unhappy occasion was merely a foreshadowing of the horrible tragedies that were still to come. 6 months later, on an island 9 miles southwest of South City, a dreadful duo lunched an attack. Coming in the defense of the inhabitants were Earth’s special forces. Piccolo was the first to try and the first to die. Vegeta was next to fall, then Yamcha, then Tien, even Krillin was destroyed by the ruthless duo. 2 artificial beings with strength beyond normal conception have appeared out of no where. It is the beginning of a new era for the Earth, an era of darkness.
