Skied there in 1972. Ticket was the highest in the state, $9. Head Standards and leather buckle boots.

Good times at Aspen Highlands, 1978. My buddy and I drove from MN in my Chev Nova. Stayed 5 nights and it snowed all day and night. We had deep powder down Steeplechase all 5 days. My first taste of powder skiing and still going strong at 65 yrs.

I skied there in 1973. I remember a super scary chairlift to the peak where you kind of dangled off the edge of the mountain. Also, they built a big jump near a swimming pool and skiers would fly off and do flips into the water while people cheered! What a great mountain!

At Stein's invitation, Bob Cross and I were the first two guys on the lift opening day. We still have the press photo.

Worked there 79/80 with setting gates on the ski school slope. With Buzz & Jeff Smith, worked fixing skis at L'eQuippe for Jean PAul on Hyman Avenue Mall... Lived there for 3 years, a young Aussie having the time of his life

That's skiing as I know it and still do it. Minus the jumping, moguls, steeps... Getting old sucks.

Loved Barrymore ski films. Quite a contrast to Warren Miller's stuff with the corny and sometimes condescending narration. Having skied mostly in the Tahoe area in the 60's and 70's, I thought Aspen Highlands was more like Tahoe resorts vs. Snowmass, Aspen Mountain and Buttermilk (which is a fun little mountain as well). I taught at all four mountains the Winter of 1999-2000, mostly Snowmass and Aspen Mt, but on occasion had a private that wanted to ski Highlands. Great film illustrating that era.

I loved skiing there, and the 'Back Bowls' of Vail. Those were truly magical times. Aspen had such a fabulous funky vibe then. I feel sorry for those too young to have not known what it was like then. How I would love to go back to those times, and start all over again.

Very nice turns, probably on 205s! Lots of memories there - my Vail friends and I would make the trek over every week for freestyle contests in the mid-70s (with real moguls back then!).

I am an aging but still active ski pro. I skied Aspen Highlands backing the80;s, once. I'd like to ski it one more time.

Only skied there one day, but what a great place that had not been compromised by time. This was back in the late 80s. 18 inches of new snow over night over an ice base. Had to make very shallow turns to keep the speed up to plane on that snow. The stuff was so light, it was barely there!

  • @TheIshavet

Skied there season 79/80. Worked with housekeeping in Snowflake lodge. Seasonpass at Highlands. Best time ever.

Got to just love those safety bars on the chair lift 😁. Well the late '60s and '70s was when I grow up skiing. The technical aspect of the sport has come a long way since then. And let's not even talk about the equipment.

  • @rambultruesdell3412

Snowboarded (yes 😁) Ajax 2003. i was told to 'beat it' at the gondi base. Great mountain, oh yeah! Great day. Great mountain charismatic vibe too. Even him.

  • @nutsackmania

I went there in 1973. Thank god everyone there was of means! There used to be a line for folks to drive Bugatti Gayrons off the Super Splash into a giant pool where there was a giant metal sweeper like a bowling machine that collected them.
