- Richard Lockhart tells his story of survival during The Battle of The Bulge and as a POW of Stalag 9B. Richard was not only the victim of beatings as a prisoner but also witnessed his fellow American G.I.'s of Jewish descent being rounded up and sent to the brutal Berga labor camp.

"Do not allow yourself to become weak and manipulated by others". A pure expression of the American spirit by a true patriot and anti-fascist. He reminds me of my Dad and uncles. We need them now more than ever.
Was “anti fascit” really necessary
@@XXAnthonyCarmineXx 😂😂
@@XXAnthonyCarmineXxabsolutely! Yes!! Without a doubt!! Just look at what it's done the past few years!!! My God!! We've suffered a stolen election and four years of a fascist regime!! My God they literally threatened to kill us if we didn't comply!! And that's just the beginning of what they've done! Think about all the rights we've lost in just a few years!! More than ever in our history!! It's absolutely insane!
@@XXAnthonyCarmineXxyour comment indicates it most certainly is warranted! That’s what that generation fought against and unfortunately it’s raising its head again. Freedom is never permanent, it must but continuously nurtured and fought for!
I consider myself a pretty tough guy. I’ve got nothing on this man. Thank you for your service sir.
This man. So humble, so inspiring.
Thank you Richard, and your mates for your sacrifices and service in defeating evil, so we can all live free and happy lives. RESPECT from Australia.
I used to date a beautiful young lady. (Wava Lee Cowan) her dad had been a POW in Europe. What he despised was the show, Hogans Heros. I never got to sit and talk with him. I'm guessing he would not have discussed it anyway. Thank you Douglas Cowan if you ever read this sir.
“I knew I would out last the bastards, and I did.”
Just beautiful! Solid storytelling and shooting - love the music too! Thank you for finding and sharing this veteran's story - it's one we all need to see and remember.
Thanks, Ashley! Appreciate you watching and the kind words!
@@WWIIBeyondTheCallThank you for your tireless work in bringing these veterans' stories to the public. I'm an amateur video interviewer and always appreciate watching more of them than those to which I have access. My father-in-law was one of the Air Corps converts to Infantry, assigned to 422/C and also lived through Stalag IX-B. Bless em all.
I love how he says “and I was part of the Army from that point on”. That means a lot more than it sounds.
Sir, Thank you for telling your story so well. They don't make real men any more. Bless your heart. I've learned so much.
Thank you for taking the time to watch Mr. Lockhart's story. We are happy to hear this was of educational value to you! He was truly an American Treasure!
@@WWIIBeyondTheCall My late uncle was a Japanese POW. He returned home in a hellish state physically and from then on, he stammered. His body had been badly beaten leaving un-set fractures, etc, etc. I think that all who view your video will come away having been enlightened also, they will perhaps better understand how 'old grand-dad/father/brother' was the way they were. I am glad that many Americans view Mr Lockhart so fondly and keep a place for him in their hearts.
No, the men coming into manhood want to be women and same as women trying to become a man....very disturbing when a nation persecutes good people if they even bring the subject up...we don't have a real man in the role of president....he hired transgenders already in government roles....one runs the dept. of health! smh....also he is outright saying he is giving jobs to women, transgenders, and minorities! If that isn't racism, I don't know what is...anyway, ty so much for your service! There aren't many left to tell their stories! What a great MAN!
@@darlenewells3309 Darlene, Scotland calling! I had to respond to your sad but true message. I am a lady of 60. I have had my 'good times' but what I'd give to spend the rest of my life with a true/real/man ( I have been widowed 9 years).I was married to a Royal Ulster Constabulary Fire Arms guy, ex military. A real man. Now I look at the 'breeding age' youngsters and the boys have long hair and eye make up. The girls are seemingly okay with that and that cannot be right?! Or can it? Sperm count in males has dropped very low - what's in the food/water? And as fro trans people. You are right, the USA have got one who is very pretty! An ex male, now woman. Oh dear. Beijing Biden has lost the plot. He's allowing abortions and transgender sports etc......when will the madness end. Okay. I must stop ranting but I was certainly interested in your message. Cherio! @@chelamcguire Ha Ha Ha!!! I loved reading your story...I too am in my 60's....my hubby n I have been married almost 48 years...He is a real man as well...he has me laughing daily..he has a wit about him that he can turn anything or word into hilariousness! I pray GOD gives him many more years! I can only imagine the loss of your spouse...so sorry for you! Every word in your comment was or is True....and sadly so! America has turned her back on GOD and family...60+million abortions since 1973. Women are having not just 1 but multiple. Using it as "birth control"! And morality has no boundaries! Im sure the whole world is that way...some countries worse than others....oh yes, our so called fake president is undoing every good thing Trump ever did! I could go on forever too! Nice to meet you and may God comfort you everyday! 💝
My FIL was a bombardier over North Africa. He was shot down 2x, taken prisoner 2x but he escaped once. He made it home but died too soon of cancer. What a brave man to escape a German prison once and go back to flying only to be shot down again. He must have been an animal. RIP Johnny.
I Can't wait to watch this. My grandfather was also in the 423 during the bulge and sent to Stalag 9b.
Thank you for watching, Michael! My grandfather was sent to Stalag 9B as well. I'm grateful to be able to share these stories. Appreciate the support and hope you enjoy the episode!
@@WWIIBeyondTheCall My apologies ( I was so excited by your video I got some of my facts mixed up) my Grandfather was with the 106th 424th company A. He was captured South of where your grandfather was but was sent to Stalag 10B, He didn't talk much about the war, but told me he didn't like train rides because of the boxcars they got put into, and seeing out through the cracks where other trains had been bombed. He never told any in his unit that he was Jewish, and when he got to the POW camp the Germans already had all that information and more (they knew where my grandmother and Aunt were living back in the states, and with whom) He was an NCO so that may have protected him from being sent off. If you haven't had the chance to watch Band of Brothers, they have an episode that takes place in the Arden and from the only story my grandfather told me about the bulge, it's spot on, with details that are very accurate. Keep up the great work, Please we must never forget what these great men (though they may say otherwise) sacrificed for us
Thank you God Almighty for preserving this precious man alive during WW2!
What a beautiful soul - wonderful human being. You are an inspiration to many people. Well done SIR.
Deceased father in law, Dr Richard Jones, worked as a surgeon at the American HQ in Bastogne. A man among men, a giant in my opinion.
What a fantastic production, a real tribute to this outstanding US Army veteran & all who served and fought in WW II ! Wonderful production , editing and photography , nice music track as well. Been a television news photojournalist for many years and I love these kind of productions. Have you produced any more like this. God Bless this veteran , as a US Army vet myself and the son of a WW II Combat Marine , what great lessons in life these men have passed on to us! In times like our world & nation are facing now with this terribel disease, we could learn from these men! Thank You Mr Lockhart for your service and the lessons you have passed on to us! TC
Thomas, thank you so much for watching and the kind words. You can find our other episode on WWII Marine and Iwo Jima survivor David Greene on our channel. I hope you enjoy it as you may find similarities to your own father's experience as a Marine! Thank you also for your service. As you mentioned, we can learn so much from this generation that is still relevant and gives us hope during our current time of uncertainty. Stay safe and thank you for supporting our mission at Beyond The Call!

Mr. Lockhart, thank you endlessly for your service and may God bless you always!!!! ✝️🇺🇸✝️
Magnificent work, Tracie. I've had the honor to know Dick for some years now via our mutual friend Carl Wouters, spending as much quality time with him as possible during his almost annual return visits to Europe. His expression and thoughts when we took him back to the exact rail siding at Gerolstein -- where he was loaded onto the train toward Bad Orb with hundreds of other POWs captured during the first days of the Bulge -- will never be forgotten. You've done his service great service here. Thanks.
Thank you, Doug! And thank you for the support and spreading the word. I'm happy to shine a light on the heroic 106th!

May God keep you in his arms so you can feel the love and piece that you deserve after what the German soldiers did to you. My dad was a WW2 Vet. and I tried to get him to open up and talk about his experiences but he wouldn't. You were one tough solider and the world is a lesser place without you.
What a great man. Bless him
I love listening to their stories, true heroes
Amazing job on telling an amazingly inspiring story! :D

What a true hero!
My grandfather was there. Private in the army. 70th division 275 infantry. Camp stalag 9b bad orb, Hesse, Germany Captured @ Christmas camp, log has him present on Jan 4, 1945
I’m from Virginia and have had countless uncles who fought in ww2 as well as my paternal grandfather. I wonder where this man did his basic training for the army here. I would love to know.
Goosebumps
I will never understand how Trump said he “prefers people who weren’t captured “ I think this man is a hero
Quite s character. They really don't make 'em like that anymore. 👍🏼👍🏼
❤❤❤❤
Amazing story. Music a bit invasive.
My great uncle was Canadian, also taken prisoner near the end of the war and said he was packed in a box car and expected to get get bombed by their own planes.
Magnificent!
The German POW camps had a very efficient way of preventing prisoners from escaping. By keeping them starving they became more susceptible to disease. Sick or weakened prisoners cant run away. Whether the food crisis was actual or manufactured I dont know. I suspect it may have been a mixture of both, depending on what camp it was. But it sure worked. In the closing months of the war it would have been a real crisis. The German people themselves were feeling the deprivation by that time as well.
my father was an American pow in Germany . he always told me of the Jewish American soldiers disappearing
Very cool video will not miss the next one lol 😆 😉
my maternal uncle was captured with the 28 inf div in the ardennes in dec 44 and imprisoned at the berga labor camp where he was murdered in apr 45. we are catholic as were many of the berga prisoners.
These are real life superhero.. Sad thing is today's generation nothing know about veterans.
This man is steely.
I agree, surrendering was a huge mistake, especially considering the allies had complete control of the air at this point.
You know I love watching Hogan's Heroes..after watching all these videos on this..I'll watch something else...I wonder what the surviving POW thought of that show..?..
Rest in peace ✌️
Too much background music through annoying
I don't get the subtitles. To me, his voice rang out true as a bell.
my father was an infantryman of yhe 5 1st division usaffe deployed in Mt. natib during the the siege of bataan, awarded the purple heart and later the legislated congressional medal of of honor, an uncle was vross number 147 in the tombs of the unknown soldiers at the libingan ng mga bayani the last time I visited the place all those concrete croses were all gone to accommodate the fake hero Marcos Sr....
When your young especially the will to survive and live is very strong the people that don't think they could survive an ordeal like that would be suprised what you instinctively do to make it
Surrounded with no chance of getting food or ammunition. He thinks it was a "big mistake" to surrender. Apparently he doesn't realize that if they didn't surrender, he and most of his comrades wouldn't be alive to talk about this.
@Jason C - If there's one thing I can't stand, it's people who don't know what they're talking about smugly shooting off their mouths and then ending their nonsense opinion with a suggestion to "look it up" on Google. But hey, I'm a nice guy. So Jason, I'm going to provide you - free of charge - a little history lesson:
Our man here in the video was a member of the 106th Infantry Division. The 106th was almost completely comprised of green draftees. On day 1 of the Battle of the Bulge, they were overrun and surrounded by a German Panzer Army. Now, besides their inexperience and lack of unit cohesion, they had no food nor ammunition, and no hope of resupply. The 106th surrendered on Dec. 19. The Americans didn't arrive back in this area until the 25th of January. There is NO WAY that a unit like the 106th could possibly have held out for 6 weeks. A few hundred men were killed when the attack began. 6,000 taken prisoner. If they fought on, it's likely thousands would have been killed. And for what? The officers who chose to surrender knew what they were doing. They should have gotten medals for saving their men's lives.
So next time, take your own advice and use a search engine before you type.
Great man, compelling story! But can we ditch the background music please, or at least minimize it's use - distracting and unnecessary.
Omg Lockhart is family
Truth, Justice, and the American Way !
As the generation from 1925 and before starting dying out, (regardless of race, creed or color) starting dying out

Recognizing Veterans Day 2024 11/11 🇺🇸
Crazy imagine your surrounded out of ammo hurt etc and taken keep alive but barley... jeez
From everything I have researched, the Germans were fair to pow's and 99% of them were returned in decent shape. What happened to the German pow's and the German people after the war however is another story! What was done to the German people was absolutely disgusting and horrific! Even General Patton admitted this...
6:52 I heard victims of the holocaust also got this treatment I bet powe are gonna be treated the same way (didn't see the full video yet)
The largest mass surrender in the European Theater of War by Americans. Each man on average only had about 30 rounds of M1 ammo left. Before the attack the troops slept in tents on straw in sleeping bags. Many tents had gas stoves with stove pipes going up thru the ceiling for a toasty 55 degrees. All those tents & sleeping bags were lost. No food or water. Mess trucks were lost. Field aid stations were lost. Try sleeping in a ditch all night in just your field jacket at 15 degrees. Germans shooting at you with wounded men moaning and crying in pain around you. Ultimate allied frostbite totals was 15,000 . For years after the war veterans went to VA hospitals to get physical therapy on their “toe less” feet. If the Germans could have killed Hitler ass on that July 20th attempt none of this would have happened….
Never trust the Government😂
Do you all understand why I was so upset about all the things and money stolen the work I was doing kept getting stolen and sold to military by family and enemies I came up with it because I love my country then I got no credit so I could be remembered as a family off the brave who gave to help our soldiers and there families what I got for being all these things robbed disrespected dishonored and called a nigger I'm going shopping to buy much needed winter close and my money better be on my card I also need a few other things
Here's one like from a white man brother.
It makes me sad, a dying breed. Men sadly aren't like this anymore. They are a 5th of this man & the men like him. Now most of them are more female the me. They take more time to get ready, its all flash & fake. Living at home with their mommas in their 30s & 40s.
Not everyone is.
Speak for yourself.
USA is the epitome of resilience
If you dislike this video then your going to hell
It's too bad the current President (Trump) doesn't consider this man a hero...you know since he got captured.
Bullshit.how dare you say that. You know dam well you are full of it.Trying to disrespect this whole channel.
@@scotttyson8661 I didn't say it, the lying, traitorous Trump did,...“He’s not a war hero,” said Trump. “He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren’t captured."
Trump also said in a different interview...
He was captured,”... “Does being captured make you a hero? I don’t know. I’m not sure.”
Trump was speaking of Senator McCain; agree the remark was uncalled for. Anyone who could survive a Vietnamese POW camp was a hero; they were held in solitary confinement, under-fed, and beaten for not telling their captors what they wanted to know. In the Vietnam war, 1250 POWs were left behind, in Vietnam-Laos camps, and "Senator" McCain just closed the books on them. Several videos here on YT re the missing POWs.
Am I the only one who can’t Finnish this one for the music? Like the weather network or something, no taste
What's with the stupid music?
Tried to watch this but the music was overbearing and obnoxious.
Much like yourself, bud.
Birthdays are overrated anyway , next year there is another one , so who cares ? 🙄🙄👎👎
Purpose of fight? All so called enlightened nations, still fought for ego.
