You know the Director Ryan Coogler had the full script for this movie with Chadwick Boseman as the lead character. He had no idea Chadwick was sick and was dying, and when he passed Ryan had to rewrite the script completely with Shuri as the lead and turning it into a powerful story about Grief and Loss. Also that funeral scene at the beginning was genuinely the cast honoring Chadwick and grieving him….. that scene hits harder…… Rest in peace to our King Chadwick, Wakanda Forever 😭😭😭

Actually Ryan revealed himself that this movie would’ve been completely different with Chadwick. I'm a bit biased in my opinion but i really liked that they changed Namor's origin. In the comics he is from Atlantis but here they made him Mayan. My father is from the Yucatan so their is Mayan heritage on that side of my family and it was nice to see that kind of representation in a big movie like this. I did go to thia with my parents and my dad was really surprised and appreciative of the fact that they did speak Mayan in the movie.

I agree. I think the reason why most people hate the inclusivity and the diversity stuff is because for most films and tv shows, it just seems forced in, you know? Like studios are just doing it to make a statement like 'hey we're inclusive, we did it.'
But in the case of this film and other films and tv shows that have diverse characters or show inclusivity the right way, its not forced down your throat. And those mediums provide ample explanation or plausibility for the character origin change. So the MCU Namor makes complete sense and i cant wait to see more of him. The actor playing him did such a wonderful job. :)

If you remember Civil War, T’Challa says the following lines: “Vengeance has consumed you [Zemo]. It’s consuming them. I am done letting it consume me.” Shuri and T’Challa essentially have similar origins to becoming the Black Panther and I love how full circle it is! To me this shows that Shuri is destined to be the Black Panther, at least for now until Prince T’Challa grows up.

The film doesn't explicitly spoonfeed the audience the info, but all the clues are there.

Namor is and has always been Marvel's biggest wildcard. You never know if he's fighting with you or against you from story to story--not to imply he's sneaky, but his intensions are always his own and you are better off if his goals align with yours. He can turn on his teammates in a second if he decides it's not in his best interest. We will have to wait and see what happens with him in the future of MCU if he is brought back. He was a teddy bear in this film compared to how he is in the comics.

I don't give a damn. I fucking love this movie. Such a beautiful tribute to Chadwick Boseman. While I do feel his presence is missing, the ensemble of the remaining cast, at least for me, more than stepped up, and along with Ryan Coogler behind the camera, created a more rounded, character-driven movie than I expected. And yes, T'Challa Jr was always going to be part of the story. However with Chadwick's passing, his presence and placement in the story was retooled to be a reveal at the end. His birth also explains where Nakia was during the events of "infinity war" and "endgame", as Wakanda fought off Thanos' forces in both battles.

@@CrowTRobot It just bugs me because when I see the discourse about the Phase 4 & 5 hit-or-miss track record, this movie tends to be glossed over, or even outright dismissed. Doesn't help that when I watched it with a group of friends, my wife and I were in the minority of loving the movie, while others found it dull or too long. I know everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I can't possibly see how this movie can be seen as horrible. Fun fact Namor was one of Marvel's first superhero's. He appeared in Marvel Comics #1 (1939) alongside the original Human Touch who for most people is seen as Marvel's first superhero. This was during Marvel's time as Timely Comic, Stan Lee later changed the name to Marvel Comics in the 1960s when introducing The Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, X-Men, Avengers etc.
Namur is also considered the first mutant. The X-Men were introduced in 1963 so around this time it was revealed that Namor was a Mutant, officially making him Marvel's first Mutant in terms of comic print. In universe Namur is not the first Mutant as there's older Mutants who have existed but the term "The First Mutant" is just something you'll see on a few Namur comics never used in the comics itself.
Speaking on Mutant's this is actually the first time the term Mutant has been used in the MCU, beyond the cut end credit Nick Fury scene from Iron Man (2008) where Nick mentions mutants to Tony. In Ms. Marvel we also hear the term Mutation so that's close enough as well. Marvel simply couldn't use the term Mutant as Fox owned the rights to X-Men up until 2019, even though Mutant is a pretty generic term used across all types of media.

This was an amazing movie! I really had no interest in the Shuri character before, but ILOVED her in this movie. Queen mother, oh my God, Angela Basset just rips my heart out. Namor is everything I wanted in the character. M'baku is, again, awesome. I could have done without the whole ReeRee thread, but I felt that way about Shuri before and I LOVE her MCU development. I just don't know anything about Ironheart. Okoye rocks again! The Talokan and its folks are my favorite thing about all this phase...by far. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!

The beginning tribute was amazing and when I saw this in theaters, I have never been in such a silent theater, it's like we all took a moment of silence to honor Chadwick Boseman
It was originally a totally different movie but Chadwick's passing took everyone by surprise so they had to write an entirely different script. I am amazed at what they were able to do. So yes it's a change, but it was necessary due to tragic circumstances but I think they did a fantastic job.
Also RiRi Williams is not just a cameo, she has a show slated, originally for 2024 but it might have been pushed off until 2025 like a lot of other projects. This was just her introduction. She's the marvel character Ironheart and from my understanding comics-wise she was an MIT student who studied Tony Starks design for the ironman suit and used them to inspire her own suit.

When Shuri picks up the helmet with both hands and stares into it is a callback to a comic book cover when Shuri became the Black Panther in the comics as well

  • @areswilliams

I’m so tired of the idea of people wanting to fast forward for t’challa’s son to age up you’re asking for them to skip years into the future when the MCU happens in the present. Also shuri was the black panther in the comics. Let her be black panther. And the argument that she shouldn’t be as talented being the black panther makes no sense to me as well she’s literally a genius who healed a man from total body paralysis she should bea but better as a fighter than t’chall not to mention when t’challa became black panther in in CA: winter soldier his father had just died and he was already out matching Bucky who was an assassin that had been a sleeper agen for literally decades. It nobody questions him at all. Probably because he could already fight before he was the black panther… you know… just like shuri.😅 the black panther runs in their blood line you think they wouldn’t train them all to be able to be the black panther when the black panther is centuries old. I hate this argument so much because logically speaking it doesn’t make sense so it just boils down to people having an issue with a black woman being black panther. Especially one who is much more intelligent than t’challa to begin with. Also her ability to drive a motorcycle is so well being questioned when in the first movie she drove a car from thousands of miles away while t’challa driving in top of it. Quite frankly he knew his sister’s capability. I just can comprehend how people don’t think shuri could fight as well as she did at the end of this movie. Especially after watching her get stabbed by namor and beating him by OUTWITTING HIM. Which is literally her forte.

Killmonger burnt all of the heart-shaped herb. And with chad bostwick passing in real life, it was perfect for them to say he fall ill and need the heart-shaped herb to survive. Shuri couldn't figure out how to recreation it in time, so do to that chad bostwick passed away in the movie. And she kinda blames killmonger for her brothers death because he would "still be alive" if he hadn't burnt it all up. Hopefully that help a little bit.😅

In the comics namor is not a hero or villain. He is like venom they are "anti-heroes" they are both good and bad in the comics depending on the story. Namor in the comics is in a love triangle with the lady from the fantastic4. We have not been introduced to them yet in the MCU. Only Reed Richards in multiverse of madness.

  • @Eddie-Brock1988

This film is pulls some elements from Avengers vs. X-Men (2012) where Namor a member of the X-Men spearheads an attack on Wakanda against the orders of Cyclops (Laser Beam Eyes) with Namor flooding Wakanda's capital like you see in this film. During this time Black Panther is actually married to Storm from the X-Men with this attacking leading to them both breaking up. So this aspect of the film is heavily inspired by this comic book, minus the X-Men, Avengers and of course T'Challa as Black Panther and Storm.

i loved this movie! namor was great. im glad they changed his origin. its so much harder to root for someone or understand them when they come from somewhere completely fictional. to pair him with a place that truly did exist allows us to actually connect and agree with him to an extent as the director intended , without it automatically falling into a "crazy sci fi villain" category. its
layered. its *incredibly* compelling to have the african princess being the one that doesnt know what it's like to be displaced. its just very interesting and layered. its like a reversal of roles compared to real life. so many places for conversations. im so excited to see both shuri and mbaku in the follow up!

Shuri won't become Queen and ruler of Wakanda, she'll remain the royal Princess and the Black Panther Protector of Wakanda. Shuri abdicated the sovereignty to King M'Baku, he wasn't at the Challenge to the Throne to challenge but to be challenged. He is interim King until Prince T'challa comes of age.

one of the best mcu entry for Phase 4..the feels, the emotions, the respect and tribute for CB..
in the comics, Namor actually is from the kingdom of Atlantis..and Black Panther and Namor are adversaries..
also, Namor is actually one of the 1st member of the Illuminati with Iron Man, Prof X, Mr. Fantastic, Dr Strange, and Black Bolt..
originally, the Black Panther 2 is completely a different film..but they have to revise the plot due to CB's death..
enjoy the next..and welcome to Phase 5..with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Guardians and the Galaxy Vol 3, Secret Invasion, I Am Groot 2, Loki S02, The Marvels, What If S02..again, pls be open-minded and just enjoy the entries..dont mind the critics, reviews, etc..loved your reaction as always..

The scientist girl as you call her in the omics is known as Iron Heart and she in fact does take over for Tony eventually and in some of the comics his mind is the ai in her suit so he helps her out even after death. Nemor in the comics is basically Aquaman and he came long before they created Aquaman as well. He was a human/Atlantian and had much power because of that but when Aquaman came about they changed Namor's history slightly not to look like they are copying each other. Glad you liked this movie as much as I did when I saw it in the theaters.
