Can we all agree that the original Mortal Kombat (1995) had a memorable and impeccable cast? Everyone was perfect and Christopher Lambert was the perfect anchor.
I don't care what the Hollywood critics say about the Mortal Kombat movie because tons of MK fans out there enjoyed the movie including myself. The one character that stood out for me was Kano who definitely brought comedy to brighten up the serious tone of the movie. Also my favorite MK character (Kabal) was crazy good in the first movie and I enjoyed seeing him in there.

It's good that you enjoyed the movie for me as an MK fan I hated the first one so far the 1995 is the best movie in my opinion. Hopefully the 2021 sequel would be better but i highly doubt it
Karl Urban was a key part of the Star Trek franchise which were big box office movies and 'The Boys' is very popular too which he stars in as the main protagonist. Plus, he will most likely be the biggest star in this movie so it makes sense from the studio's perspective to go for him, although Adkins would have been a better choice. Adkins is getting older but he's literally a real life martial arts action star with enough acting experience now to pull of a role like Johnny Cage.
Scott Adkins is trully great Martial Artist ... but he cant play character like Johny Cage ....not funny enough .. he has not the facial expression and voice ... there for .. he could be almost any other character ... thats why they get the role for Karl Urban ... even tho his appearance doesnt look the part ... but his role in the Boys plays exactly how Johny or Kano should ... but since Kano was already there ...
@@marekbabik2791 Yeh I was giving Adkins the benefit of the doubt as far as acting range but your probably right, I've never seen any evidence of him as a comic relief type of character. Johnny cage is becoming more a major character in MK recently, I think because he represents the viewer's perspective in the MK universe. So you need someone who can portray that character with leading man charisma and screen presence. Also, the guy who played Kano in the first movie did a great job in my opinion, he was better than anyone else.
@@sabin97 What?! The Star Trek movie with Karl Urban is from 2009 and after that a few sequels. Karl Urban is 51 now and Scott Adkins 47. I prefer Adkins as Johnny Cage, but Karl often surprises me with his roles and doing a great job. He is perfect in The Boys and perfect as Judge Dredd.
I loved the first even with it's flaws. I am so excited for the sequel and with Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, He will 100% commit to the role. So excited to see Noob Saibot in live action.
Again someone, who is not a martial artist and has no physique. The last cam be fixed, but he is not martial artist. In the first movie it was very obviously, who is a real martial artist and who not, and the that made a impact to the fighting scene and their authenticity. Movie like that needs a real martial artist. Anyway most of the actors are not very famous, so it's not like the producers to want a big names.
I absolutely loved it the first movie. How about everybody pump the brakes and give all the actors a chance to fill their selected roles before making judgment calls. Karl Urban is a great actor and very well could be a dynamite Johnny Cage, who knows?
I'm just excited for the whole thing. Win, lose, hit, or flop, I'm a fan. And I don't care where they put Karl Urban; he's a legend. He could show up as mokap and I'd still watch it.
Yeah... I'm not holding my breath for this one to blow me away.... I was insanely excited for the first one and was soooo let down... knowing Cole is again the central protagonist just makes me roll my eyes at this movie.... it does not seem like the writers of these movies are OG fans of the games nor the lore...
Wow, great surprise! I'm happy about Karl Urban's casting! His screen charisma (even in smaller roles) and ability to find the soft spot betwen solid acting and overacting will make him great Johnny Cage. It will also cause the whole cast to try harder not to get overhelmed by him!
What really kills me is that none of those actors are bad. So if the 1st movie didn't do well it's because of the writers and directors changing things so much that fans get pissed. Here's hoping the 2nd movie does better.
I personally liked the "new" MK. I liked the older ones better. I think that cast was very good back then. But i do enjoy some fresh takes from the new cast as well. It's different yet it was great in my opinion. I will be watching MK2 for sure!
They're doing it right I couldn't be happier with the MK1 and I'm ready for MK2....I watched the first movies when they came out and had to live with that version till now so I'm pumped 😁
ok i love they are making a sequel cause i want one but... like most others... i think Cole is bland uninteresting and doesnt add anything to the plot aside from being the audience conduit to this world be a OC ... that why i kinda hope they kill him off in the next one. But not a "they die in the fist 5min" death but at least give it some meaning, like make Cole a fan of Cage (which im pretty sure is alluded to with the posters at the gym maybe?) and they form a kind of bond and he dies at the moment when Cage is teetering on if he is gonna join in the Tournament and how he earns the strength to get his iconic powers. Otherwise im happy with nearly everything ive heard so far about its production.
Cole being a Johnny fan sounds interesting and could add more to his character. Maybe Cole got into fighting because of Johnny or made some of his own moves based off of some of Johnny's moves
The actresses for Kitana and Jade 🤌🏼💯. Also, if it's true that all of this will have a sequel and if Noob Saibot is making an appearance I hope to see my main Ermac and maybe even Smoke in the future films. Basically, all characters from the original MK trilogy should show up. We need, Motaro, Kintaro and/or Sheeva as underbosses uf possible.
I legit thought Smoke was gonna be in the last movie because of a quick shot in the trailer but it turned out to just be of Bi Han with that smoke effect they used for when Shang Tsung was teleporting people or whatever
I loved fights in the first film but I hope we get a much better plot. Not to sure about Urban being casted as Johnny Cage, still let’s see what they do hopefully video game movies finally turn around and be as good as they can.
as a day one fan. THIS WAS A PERFECT MOVIE. Had some slightly out of place things but they never distracted from the good this movie had. I felt for Scorpion and hes always been my favorite.
the first movie was mostly bad writing wise but the wardrobe, scenery and overall design was on point. As long as they know what went wrong in the first movie they can redeem themselves in mk2. Just forget about Cole Young, terrible Gary Stu character, he felt like a self insert.
I loved the first movie and Ive been excitedly waiting for the next one. Some of these cast choices are really good and make sense. I think Karl Urban can pull off Johnny. But Im interested to see how Ford portrays Shao Kahn. He obviously physically fits the part. But Im interested to see what he brings as far as acting the part goes.
The bit about "Cole will become the next Scorpion" isn't a rumor, it's wishful thinking. It comes from two years of fans wishing that's what they did with the first one because they hated Cole's literal Plot Armor superpower. There's no way they'd reveal a plot point that big from the script this early in production.
Funny ideas for the movie: How to refrence Friendship: Say that Johnny Cage is fighting Sonya, and when he beats her, Shang Tsung says finish her! And then Johnny Cage teleports away or something. But when he teleports he leaves behind his autograph. Shao Kahn taunts: Say Shao Kahn kills someone like Rain, and then Shao Kahn simply says afterwards, 'It's official: YOU SUCK.' Edit: And we better see Johnny split punch Goro / Kintaro in the movie lol.
He would of been good, I would of loved to see Scott Adkins in the role though. He's never gotten the break he deserves when it comes to main stream hollywood.
I think the world of Mortal Kombat is so vast that you just can't do it justice in a movie format. Not really anyway. I think a series would be the best way to about bring Mortal Kombat to life in live-action. Not only would a series format allow time for the story and characters to fully develop, but there's also less restrictions. Even R rated movies have a limit to what they can get away with. TV and streaming shows can get away with showing a lot of more blood and gore than a movie can.
Kano , Sub Zero , Scorpion, Kung Lao were great in the first one. I hope Lui Kang has more of a lead role in number 2 and Raiden needs to look more imposing. Not a fan of the new character but if he becomes the next scorpion might be ok.
I'm probably one of the few people who actually liked the last movie. Sure it had some problems but I thought it was fun. And I think Cole still has potential to be a good character if done right
When Heath Ledger was first cast as the Joker, the Internet went crazy with the whole 'he can't do the role, he doesn't fit the role.....' rubbish. That turned out pretty damn good. I think Karl can pull it off.
Being that I’m a huge obsessed fan I Loved the last movie I don’t care could it have been much better and longer yes absolutely! I’m SUPER EXCITED for the sequel for sure!!
Glad they're making this, I fully agree with the comment about role selection for Karl Urban. Great action-movie actor, much better suited for a different role, particularly with better options for Johnny Cage available.
I think Karl Urban as Johnny Cage is not the best choice, but it’s not the biggest worry. I think Cole is biggest problem… him being the center of the first film was bad, so hopefully they can address that in the next film. But as an MK fan, I’m excited to see this.
Yes, While I appreciate they wanted to bring in a new character as an audience surrogate... Cole was Poorly Developed... He can work, but they need to make him a better character! They need to give him some proper development... In my view he suffered Annakin Skywalker / Kylo Ren Syndrome... They had a direction they wanted to head, but did not spend enough time developing him to make you care! I know fellow Star Wars fans are now going to go hell for leather on me Saying "Annakin Skywalker / Kylo Ren Syndrome" but with Annakin, We all knew he would become Vader - So that does not count! The Prequels did Annakin Dirty... PERIOD!!! I say that AS A FAN OF THE PREQUELS... He was Poorly written!
@@Phoenix2312As a huge starwars fan myself I did take offense on that as you are the first person I have seen who has hated the prequels but I agree that Cole’s character needed more emotional development in order for that juicy character development
@@deadmemer5621 I wont deny the prequels are a mess... You have to dig through a lot of unnecessary crap to find the good parts... I kind of think I understand what Lucas was going for, but unlike his OG trilogy - He had NO ONE sitting him down and saying" Now George We love you but that idea is SO DUMB, It is BORING!" So Episode one was Laborious, 2 Over Componsated and became too cluttered, and Three... Well, we all knew how it would end, and it was badly planned out! Still better than the Sequel Trilogy though - LMAO! And Mortal Kombat, Oh there is so much scope... But do I think they will get it right? No... I hope only that the movies are going to continue to be enjoyable! Honestly, if you want a GOOD mortal Kombat Movie, Watch the Cutscenes from the latest games!!! LOL! Everything from Mortal Konbat 9 onwards! How Netherrealm managed to take such a convoluted story and make it somewhat Coherant is beyond me!
I am so psyched for this movie. Huge Mortal Kombat fan. Only if Annihilation was never made, perhaps then we wouldn't have had to have waiten 20yrs to get a proper release.
Cole becoming Scorpion in part 2 seems like they're addressing one of the biggest complaints from part 1. No one wants a movie about Cole Young, he should have become Scorpion in the 1st movie instead of getting plot armor.
Keep the cast as is cause everyone who hasn’t played a mortal kombat character give them a chance and would love to see some new characters as well this will be awesome
They need to learn to not make as many cuts in the fight scenes in post. The first movie lost so much potential on the fight scenes because of the way they were cut.

Kal Urban doesn't fit for Johnny's cage character.
I’m pumped for this I loved the movie I gave it a solid 7-5 & waited 20 years for this !
I'm a 30 year mk fan who watched it with 4 or 5 other mk fans and that movie fuckin sucked. Tf did u watch? Nobody who knows anything about mk doesn't like that movie. U lying
this franchise will go flat in terms of reviews. not good not bad either.
@@FightingIsLife scott was super funny in the accident guy, man is just not popular enough
i'm not aware of karl urban being a part of star trek.
he seems far too young.
@@vencislavgynev8282they could fix that if they made Yuen Woo Ping the martial arts choreographer lol
@@vencislavgynev8282he is a martial artist though. A real life one.
@@WHSuperman2005
Are he? Some sources? Some video of him being? In what martial art/arts he practicing?
scott adkins deserves the johnny cage role. the things scott can do would just make cage that much more awesome
Needs Zack Snyder.
I absolutely loved it the first movie. How about everybody pump the brakes and give all the actors a chance to fill their selected roles before making judgment calls. Karl Urban is a great actor and very well could be a dynamite Johnny Cage, who knows?
I'm happy to see new actors getting a chance to make a name for themselves. I have high hopes for this film and going in with an open mind and heart.
I'm just excited for the whole thing. Win, lose, hit, or flop, I'm a fan. And I don't care where they put Karl Urban; he's a legend. He could show up as mokap and I'd still watch it.
Yeah... I'm not holding my breath for this one to blow me away.... I was insanely excited for the first one and was soooo let down... knowing Cole is again the central protagonist just makes me roll my eyes at this movie.... it does not seem like the writers of these movies are OG fans of the games nor the lore...
i spoke about Kano immediately when i saw Karl given the Johnny character!
Am so happy we get to see Noob, he is my fave after scorpion
They should have given scott adkins the role of johnny cage. The last film really pissed me off.
Wow, great surprise! I'm happy about Karl Urban's casting! His screen charisma (even in smaller roles) and ability to find the soft spot betwen solid acting and overacting will make him great Johnny Cage. It will also cause the whole cast to try harder not to get overhelmed by him!
I just hope they will doing good makeup for him to look at least 35-36 years old.
Karl Urban as Johnny Cage?? Why ??💀💀
THE ACTOR THAT WILL PLAY SHAO KHAN WILL BE ON POINT
There were things i didn't like about the first movie, but I still watched it half a dozen times.
Excited for the sequel.
The Miz would’ve been a perfect cast. He’s literally Johnny in real life. 😂 what a missed opportunity.
Ermac would be sick! He is my main as well.
Agreed. So many characters they could of plotted a build up to the first tournament and focuses a little more on the backgrounds of each character.
That’s because they are just throwing shit together and calling it a mk movie with the wrong cast
Hopefully they follow the storylines instead of ruining them.
as a day one fan.
Will be his first chance to actually act i think, hope he is up to it..
We want more fatalitises in the movie....just like in the game...
Bro u gave the best unbiased view. U got my sub just for this video alone. Bet I'm in for a treat.
Karl Urban casted as Johnny Cage tells me everything I need to know about this film
💯! Cole young should have already told you. The stupid ‘Tana’ thing is dumb also
That would be so dope if they did a series of movies. As long as they use the sorce material.
The Miz would've been a great Johnny Cage tbh
Funny ideas for the movie:
How to refrence Friendship:
Say that Johnny Cage is fighting Sonya, and when he beats her, Shang Tsung says finish her! And then Johnny Cage teleports away or something. But when he teleports he leaves behind his autograph.
Shao Kahn taunts:
Say Shao Kahn kills someone like Rain, and then Shao Kahn simply says afterwards, 'It's official: YOU SUCK.'
Edit: And we better see Johnny split punch Goro / Kintaro in the movie lol.
Personally, I'd nominate the Merc with the Mouth for the role of Johnny Cage. I belive Ryan Reynolds is born for that role.
Glen Powell would’ve been a great Johnny cage!!
He would of been good, I would of loved to see Scott Adkins in the role though. He's never gotten the break he deserves when it comes to main stream hollywood.
Can’t wait to see Shao Kahn
Lewis Tan would’ve been the perfect kenshi but make him his own character I guess
He totally looks like Kenshi from MK1
I was gonna say Kenshi in MK1 actually made me double take to see if they used Lewis Tan's likeness
I think the first movie was incredibly underrated. Really excited for the second.
For a good reason because it was incredibly trash 🗑
@@amaterasu0929 I know what you were attempting to say, but the way you said it makes 0 sense.
The biggest missed opportunity was not having JCVD as Johny Cage in first MK movie in 1995.
This is a great video.
Love that you show the director, producers, etc.
I always wonder what they look like.
Honestly.
Karl has a wide range of acting and characters I think he'll do amazing as Johnny
But he can't fight. Same problem with like 95 percent of the cast. So I guess it doesn't matter for real.
Carl as Johnny?
Really?
Yeah…
He would of been better as like Stryker for example.
Ain’t no way, they should’ve made Carl into Kano
@FOA89019 facts 💯. Karl urban looks like him as well.
@@bradmiles1984they should have made him Erron Black
I need more Mortal Kombat in my life.
Really
I think the Miz playing Johnny Cage would have been…AWESOME!!!
You know how crazy it would have been if they kept Johnny's actor a secret and then it's Jean-Cleaude van Damme with decent deaging SFX! :D
Loo Kong? Shong Sung?
Being that I’m a huge obsessed fan I Loved the last movie I don’t care could it have been much better and longer yes absolutely!
I’m SUPER EXCITED for the sequel for sure!!
Glad they're making this, I fully agree with the comment about role selection for Karl Urban. Great action-movie actor, much better suited for a different role, particularly with better options for Johnny Cage available.
1st movie left us wanting alot and thats what its supposed to do. Glad the direction it came from. Sequel tournament will be badass.
Huge mortal kombat fan, I would watch every sequel !! ❤ so excited for this
I think Karl Urban as Johnny Cage is not the best choice, but it’s not the biggest worry.
I kind of think I understand what Lucas was going for, but unlike his OG trilogy - He had NO ONE sitting him down and saying" Now George We love you but that idea is SO DUMB, It is BORING!"
So Episode one was Laborious, 2 Over Componsated and became too cluttered, and Three...
Congrats brother Raguel (Joe taslim). Couldn't be more happier for you.
I loved the new remake. Im a big mk fan so i support all games & movies/shows even fan made films. Lets go MK2😎Cant wait to see sub zero turn into Noob-Saibot & ermacs appearance 😭🔥
Mortal Kombat 1995 will always still be the best MK film regardless how hard these modern movies push to be.
The Miz as Johnny Cage would've been perfect!
MK2 the movie needs to have more character building around the main cast.
OMG!!! Part 2 is gonna be huge. I can already tell from this video. I agree that Karl Urban would be a great Kano, but we'll see how he does with Johnny Cage. I'm looking forward to see Shao Kahn in this as well. I also love the fact that we will see Bi Han as Noob Sai Bot. And Quan Chi? Oh boy!! This is film is gonna exceed the first one. Hands down, I can't wait.😮😃😁
With all the small time actors it makes perfect sense they brought in Karl urban for star power
I enjoyed the MK movie; it was head & shoulders above the 90's version.
Surprisingly the first movie was really good, i hope this one would be better.
The first one was a great movie and I have high expectations for The entire cast
.
