IT band anatomy and how to reduce IT band friction

  • The It band has a little known function of stabilising tibial (shin bone) rotation and preventing excessive pronation of the foot and ankle. The right muscle activation tensions the IT band so that it becomes a check ligament that prevents excessive foot and ankle rotation. Not only does this reduce IT band friction. It also reduces nasty twists at the knee and helps you run tall and relaxed with increased efficiency.
