I donated my ( huge) stash of material to my local senior rest home, because they had a sewing class. They were thrilled to get the material since I was moving out of state.
Thank you, dear Catherine! All I can say is that there are sewing projects I would NEVER ever have attempted, except that this 77-year-old found your channel a couple of years ago. Thank you also for helping us to understand the wastefulness of "fast fashion"; and that it can be very exploitive of third-world sewing workers. God bless you and your family, and continue to prosper the work of your hands and heart. ❤
I just want to say how inspiring you are Catherine. You seem like such a happy person and I think it’s at least partly because you’re constantly creating, constantly becoming inspired to create, and constantly improving your techniques and skills. You are also creating something that is not only useful but fun to wear and you can show off your works of art. Not only that but you are saving the environment not just in your closet but by teaching us how to do it as well. Your gift now has the ability to touch thousands of us and get multiplied as we teach them to others. You’re inspiring me to learn to sew, and teach my daughters as well. I’m even thinking this could be a great career path for one of them. Thank you for all you do here, Catherine. You are a gem! ❤
Thank you for this video. It will be a huge help for me when I have space to have a sewing/ craft room. I love your videos. I found you yesterday and I have been binge watching as many as I can. Love the tote bag and t-shirt redesign videos you have. I will put to use the ones on making t-shirts larger. Those are awesome!
A great pattern paper is architectural sketch paper. It comes in rolls 12", 18" or 24" wide. It is thicker than pattern paper but still see through. I trace patters on it and then modify the new pattern. My store bought pattern stays intact. Also great for tracing a garment because you can see the seams through it.
What a blast to watch this video. Accolades to you on a "well " thought out sewing room system . I'll send to all my sewing friends. Organization really is the key to success! ✂
I love your videos! They are helping me teach my granddaughter how to upcycle thrift finds she loves. We just refashioned a shirred-top mini dress into a peplum top. Today, we will look at cute ways to embellish her toddler sister's t-shirts with fringe, buttons, ribbon... just for fun. Why not, right?
That was awesome! Have to admit I was a little dubious about this and whether I would enjoy it but I totally did! That is a great room and kudos to judi who helped....she is the master of organization!!! Great job!
So glad you enjoyed it! It was fun to make because it is so personal to me. It felt like I was just having a friend over and showing them around. And yes, Judi is the best!
Oh my goodness. Check your mending box to see if you have anything that goes with your thread ? Genius ! I will say anything that goes with your needles too. Currently I have stretch needles in my sewing machine, serger and cover stitch. So 5 stretch needles and lots of thread. I’m definitely checking before I undo all of that work !
I sew all the time also, mostly quilting projects and remodeling or making my clothing or darning my sons work clothes. I have 2 sewing tables for sewing machines and sergers, a large cutting table, and my ironing board and iron. I have a huge closet that holds everything from fabric, scraps, and thread to wrapping paper and ribbons to a sewing body form to crocheting supplies, and all my European Christmas ornaments and other Christmas decor and decorations. My room also houses all my painting supplies (I’m also a painter, mostly landscapes). This also doubles as an extra guest room with a Laz y boy sofa/queen bed and night stand. Also houses a large storage armoire and a triple set of Ikea glass doored cabinets that holds more fabric and my fashion doll collection and fabric for their gown making. This room is 13x15 feet and a big closet. I love my room. Only house that I ever had a dedicated craft/sewing room of my own.
Hi Catherine i like the way, you presenting every video with passion and love to sewing and teaching . Even , people they don't know how to sew ,learn very fast from you. Tank you . Kamilla Windsor On. Canada
some of those little items that are of sentimental value, grab a bit of velvet for background, do up a shadowbox so you can see them always instead of just when you open a drawer, would look great in your space
wow, Just watching this today. You are so organized and have utilized the space very nicely. I live in a small one bdrm apt. and envy you having such a lovely space. I have to drag out my machine when I want to sew. You have been so inspiring and I now am sewing more and more. Thanks for the tour!
I love this room. Actually I just found this video and it came at a perfect time for me because I had just started to organize some of my sewing things, You gave me some good ideas that I can put to use. Thanks for making this video.
Amazing! I love this video. This is exactly what I need to do as well. I have parts of this process in place, but I need to do more to have this kind of sewing space. Thank you so much!
I think my Mom had the same green sewing box - great memory. Your sewing room is nice and bright and well organized. Would be a pleasure to be in there.
Hey you! 'Sew' proud of you and all you've accomplished so far on this channel! You are an inspiration for sure. And thank you for the BreakThroughColour shout out! Great tour & fantastic organizing! Thanks for sharing. You’re teaching is fun to follow. I love up cycling clothes, especially cottons! My skin loves cotton but not synthetic clothing. I use a compartment fishing tackle box for my threads & sewing tools. My father once won a fishing tackle box, but didn’t fish (he was a farmer), so my mom claimed it for her sewing box. As long as the trays open up, you can see all your thread colors, etc.
This is fun to watch! I’ll watch it again…and again, and again! I just retired and I’m getting back to sewing, knitting, crafting, etc. This gave me a lot of ideas for organizing all in the same space! In the process of downsizing now and all my supplies have been stuffed into a corner of my bedroom for when I get to that room! Can hardly wait to move forward with it all now - very encouraging site!
