Well dang, it never fails. I watch these sewing room tours and then realise I need a new cutting table. And to completely rearrange my room (LOL!). You do have an amazing solution though - bathroom mats for your machine pedals! I've been debating on buying a pedal stay and now I think why - when I can just buy a rubber-bottom mat? Genius! Thanks! xox
LOL 😂 Yes - bathroom mats and they are the spongy kind so super comfy for my foot. Also, no long “shaggy” stuff to hold on to thread so they are super easy to vacuum. Xx 💞
Wow, Izzy, that is a fabulous creative work space! I LOVE the cutting table; I don’t have room for one, so that seems like a luxury to me. That being said, I can’t think of anything better than having a Marianne desk. ❤ Although we always had different types of projects going, I have amazing memories working on sewing projects, hanging out with mother. And, the kids’ graffiti….yeah, I’d keep that. 😊 Enjoy! -Deborah
Izzy, bravo to you and your helpers. Marvelous space planning and sewing triangle. Cut, Iron, Sew! Also, good to see how you simply created stations for the Cricut and computer and printer! Thanks!
What a huge, wonderfully-organized sewing room! I must say that you have the least amount of fabric I've ever seen for someone who sews as much as you do. But that's the key, isn't it? You use it up! LOLOLOL... I love that old-fashioned lamp. Years ago, I had something very similar in my living room. It was a favorite for sure. It wasn't an antique but it was beautiful. Thanks for the tour. Happy Sewing!
I had a much larger stash at the beginning of the year, but I stopped buying fabric unless I had specific plans for it and that really helped. Thank you for visiting Deb! 💞
Mount a couple of power strips on the wall just above your long sewing machine table. It's an easy way to have a convenient place to plug in your machines without having to crawl under the desk. (I'm older and crawling around to get to plugs doesn't work for me). How wonderful to have room to have all of your machines set up all the time!
Thank you for the suggestion! Having all my machine out and ready to use is amazing. I can move from quilting to garment sewing to embroidery without needing to put anything away. 💞
Definitely! I really don’t want to go back to having a ton of fabric in the house. I could make room for more in that one Kallax unit if I folder everything as flat as I can, but for now, I’m good with the amount I have. 💞
❤it! 3M also makes a hook with a narrower wire hook that will fit through the rulers. I recently used them in the nursing home to hang stuff for my dad.
Thank you! I went on a bit of a buying ban at the beginning of the year because I was already running out of room to store it. I would say that 75% of what I made so far this year used up fabric I had in my stash. 💞
Wow! What a great space! I love that you kept the computer desk. It seems perfect for your machines except for the cable issue. I did wonder about the “graffiti” but I figured it was just from general crafting mayhem so it was cool to hear the back story! Your new Cricut area is wonderful, and I can’t wait to see the fun holiday things you turn out now that it’s all accessible and organized. Ease of use is such an underrated factor in hobbies. That cutting table is definitely the star of the show. It’s such a great size and I love that you picked up the door add-ons. It was also so nice to see the special pieces from your family, like the lamp your husband fixed and the cross-stitch from your Grandma. I love all those types of little stories and sentimental bits. It really makes a room (and tour) so homey! Thank you for sharing!!
When we first built that computer desk for the kids I remember being so annoyed that they had written all over it, but now I'm so happy that graffiti is there. I feel surrounded by the people I love in this room (my grand-mother, my mother-in-law and my kids). I'm planning a day of Cricut crafting this weekend with my daughter and I'm super excited! 💞
I absolutely loved seeing inside your room and behind the curtain haha 😂 ribbon loops on your rulers. They will hang on the hooks then, ask me how I know 🤣 xx
Lovely sewing room Izzy, I have a sewing room, it's still a work in progress but I will get it how I want it to be early next year, Christmas preparations have taken precedent right now. I have always admired your pink lamp, I always assumed that it was a very expensive treasure 😂 it is just beautiful. Sometimes, I find myself drooling over your lamp and completely ignoring you 😂😂 sorry! Have a lovely day. See you next time ❤
😂 Don’t apologize - it’s a really nice lamp! I have plans to make a lot of things with my Cricut for Christmas so knew the room needed to be ready now. I feel like I can really be creative in here now. 💞
It really is completely worth it! I feel so inspired and so calm when I come down here now. And I love that Marianne will have her own space when she comes over for our crafternoons together! 💞
Well done Izzy, your sewing room is great, so well organised and tidy, it must be a joy to work in 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻. I especially love your cutting table (and your beautiful pink lamp - it always catches my eye on your vlogs ❤️) x
What a wonderful new space Izzy! It’s laid out perfectly with the different work stations. My entire sewing space is IKEA. I had a bit of a mess with cords too. I had my hubby drill holes(1 1/4”) towards the back of my wall mounted table for each machine. He put guards in each hole and threaded the cords through them. I too have limited outlets so he mounted a large surge protector on the wall underneath and everything is plugged in there. No more cords running everywhere and all are off the floor with the exception of the foot pedals. I also use one of those rolling carts for my small sewing items. Everything is in reach. My sewing books and manuals are stored in one of the Kallax cubbies near my machine for easy reference. I hang my sewing table extension on pegboard to keep it out of the way. I like the way you store your patterns. That’s always a struggle!
Thank you so much Donna! I’ll definitely be having a chat with the hubby and see if he can drill me some holes for the cords. I love the idea of trying to find space in my Kallax for the books. Maybe I could move my pressing tools somewhere else. 💞
I have a much smaller room than yours but have a long desk similar to yours that I have a edger, a coverstitch and my take to class embroidery machine. My husband drilled holes behind each machine for wires that drop down through and plug into a power bar. It keeps the cords out of the way. I have a stand alone desk for my main machine. Your room looks very organized and would be a pleasure to work in.
@@dizzyquiltsandsews I tried to send you a picture of the black insert you put in the drilled hole but couldn’t figure it out. I think my hubby got them at an office supply store.
What a wonderful space!!! I have cutting table envy - wish I had space in my tiny house for one. I would suggest you get out a drill and make the holes on your rulers large enough to hang on you cutting table.
Thank you Sue! I’m so thrilled with my cutting table - it is literally saving my back. What I might do is make a hanging loop with twine or yarn and use that to hang my rules on those hooks. 💞
Fabulous sewing room space. I especially love your island cutting table……an absolute luxury to have! I love the fact that you’ve kept the graffiti from your children growing up unchanged……I would have done exactly the same.
Wonderful space! I did want to recommend cord organizers of some sort. Amazon sells some that are meant for kitchen appliances. They stick on like command hooks. I ordered a package because one of my craft lights has a long cord. I might use them for other things as well, not just cords. Also Michael’s sells the lid to the rolling cart separately if you ever decide to cover the top shelf.
Your room looks SO good. So well thought through and practical. I love it. The best feature is the cutting table- so good you have the space to walk around it. Love the nostalgia of the machines table and also your Mother in laws chest etc.. What a fabulous mix of old and new to create in. Sorry, I don’t have any brilliant ideas for your cables etc but I can see others have given great advice. You have made me more determined to give my room a makeover but it will have to be next year. After moving in April and finally getting to the end of all the work in the house I think I need a rest from it for a bit. Happy sewing!😊
You definitely deserve a rest after a move!! You’re right - the mix of old and new is really kinda cool and I’m glad I have that chest and the kids’ computer table. 💞
Good idea to plan everything out ahead of time - you have a well thought-out space to work in - I'm envious of that cutting table as I cut things out on the floor, which I guess is good exercise, but I'm not always in the mood to do it. Our dining room table just isn't conducive to cutting or I'd use that. I totally understand about keeping some evidence of the kids around - my sewing room is my son's old room and there is still a poster of his on the wall - I did take all the beer ads and other stickers off the door, however! Anyway, loved the tour and also found out about those McDonald's hockey thingies - my daughter who lives near Detroit is a huge ice hockey fan and she'll be surprised to know they used to be a giveaway at Mickey D's - you learn something new every day!
Oh my goodness, I couldn't cut on the floor. I almost never eat at McD's but that year, I ate there every week hoping to get one of the trophies! LOL Funny because I'm watching the Montreal Canadiens play against Detroit as I type this! 💞
The only good thing about cutting on the floor is that I sew a lot of knits and they're not supposed to drop off the end of the cutting table, so I solved that issue 😄 McDonald's was smart - they turned you into a (temporarily) loyal customer!@@dizzyquiltsandsews
Love the sewing room, Izzy! Pretty cool what we can do with a corner of a basement! I love that you kept the computer desk - good memories and sustainability as well. I laughed about the doors to keep Bear away from your fabric stash, and the bed he never uses. Cats have minds of their own! Who knew?!?!
They really do have a mind of their own - his favourite spot in the room now is Marianne’s chair. He does jump on top of the cutting table all the time, but I try not to let him on there. Thanks for visiting! 💞
That is an awesome room to spend time in! The cutting table really is the 'pièce de résistance' !! I love how your fabric is all stored in the end cabinet but where are all your straps and odd pieces? You must have some or did I miss it 😂. It really does look a room for a pro which is exactly what you are ❤. Love that you have my tissue holder in it 👏🏼. As promised lying on my sunbed watching this 😂😎Thanks for sharing xxx❤xxx
All my scraps, quilting cottons and a lot of my notions are stored in a storage area off the laundry room. So it’s really close, but out of the way and not visible 😂 How’s your holiday going? Getting good weather? 💞xx
@@dizzyquiltsandsews ah ha they had to be somewhere! I just love your sewing space 🥰. Weather has been amazing thanks and just enjoying doing basically sleep, swim, read, repeat!! Xxx
A lovely space for creating. Well organised and neatly put together. Having all your machines out and ready to go has got to be really handy. Your fabric stash is about the same size as Jen's declutter stash, if you remember that vlog! I also tend not to have to much fabric, partly as I don't have much room. Have a lovely week.
😂 I remember that vlog! I know I have a very small stash compared to other vloggers, but I really couldn’t have anything much bigger. I would constantly think of the money just sitting there, not being used and I would just feel guilty about it. 💞
Beautiful room , love your new cutting table area. I have a question ?? when you’re working on quilt project or a sewing project where do you store your projects in progress, I’m a quilter, but I do sew some things as well. Love all organizations areas. My room is small and not a lot wall space since it’s a den and I have 7 windows lol with one small wall space for all the fabric storage !!!
Thank you! Except for the quilt that’s been basted and is waiting for me to quilt it, I don’t have any WIPs. And I haven’t started a new quilt project in quite a while. I’ve never been a quiter who worked on multiple quilts at a time so I guess I could store my WIP near my quilting machine in a project bag. 7 windows sounds pretty awesome! That’s the one thing I miss about my sewing room - no windows! 💞
Such a lovely sewing room, Izzy! 😊 I may have missed it in the tour, but how do you store your embroidery hoops? I found some Command Strip hooks with metal hooks that are a perfect size for my rulers. 🎉 Enjoy your cutting machine! You’ll be able to do some great projects and transfers whenever you want now. 😘
Thank you Lynn! I only have 2 hoops and I keep them with the embroidery machine (right next to it). I cannot wait to start making Christmas decorations and gifts with my cutting machine! 💞
Hi Izzy! Love your new sewing space! You're fortunate to have such a large room for all your equipment. I had to giggle when you said that you had other things stored in another room. There just never seems to be enough space for our stuff, huh? Question: Where did you buy your (wire?) thread spool holders on your wall? I really like that they aren't the typical wooden boards (like what I have). They look cleaner against the wall. Great video tour!
LOL Yes - there are always things stored somewhere else. This is a small storage space right off my sewing room where we store extra toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, etc. And now it holds all my scraps, notions and quilt batting! The thread racks are from Amazon and if I remember correctly, very inexpensive. I too love that they almost blend in with the wall colour so that all you see if the rainbow of thread!! 💞
Hey Izzy, what a fabulous space!!! We also have a dedicated space for sewing (I live with my sister-in-law and other family) and it makes such a difference. We have IKEA units for our cutting table too, four put together, and cutting mats on top. It used to break our backs to cut things out, but the unit is exactly the right height for us :) Is that the Bellavista top you are wearing? I was cutting out the paper pattern for it, lengthening the bodice and shortening the sleeves whilst I watched the video :) I got the pattern and had it printed at the print shop after I saw yours before. I just need to decided which of the three possible fabrics I have for my initial garment, then I'm on to cutting out this afternoon. Happy sewing :)
The new cutting table is so great for my back! Yes, it’s a Bellavista (the first one I ever made and still my favourite). Can’t wait to see your version! 💞
The table with the machines on it. Can you give measurements. I am looking at making the same thing. I have a custom made sewing table, that was in my prior house, but it was made to fit a bay window. I am losing space. Your room looks marvelous. The light above the thread does it get hot? I had one that had so much heat giving off that I rarely used it. It was old I think now they are cooler.
Thank you so much! The table for my sewing machine is 14' long and 24" deep. The light doesn't get hot at all (I'm pretty sure it's LED) and it's super bright, making it much easier for me to see. LOL
Thank you! The table where all my machines sit is something my husband built when our kids were teenagers (quite a few years ago now). But the rest of the room is IKEA. 💞
Hello love your organization but can you tell me what size is your room? I noticed most of the time no one tells you what size room they’re working in which is really helpful because it gives me an idea of what I can do in my room especially if we have the same size I have a 12 x 16 shed.
Good point!! My room is about 12 x 16 also. Only 3 walls available to me though because the 4th wall has the washer and dryer and some storage for laundry stuff. Also, this is a basement and it has 6 feet ceilings so not very high. Hope this helps.
@@ZeldaSews I'm not familiar with all the different Juki models out there, but I wouldn't recommend either of my machines as a starter for garment sewing and quilting. The TL2010 is a straight-stitch machine only and although the DX7 is an amazing machine, the price point is a little high for a complete beginner I think.
Very lucky lady. You did a good job
Thank you!

Enjoy your cutting machine!
Thanks, Izzy! 💞@@dizzyquiltsandsews
Cut some
Holes in the back of your then I bring them down the hole and they are hidden that’s what my hubby did for me.
Good tip! Thank you!
LOL
Your sewing table looks so organized. Did it come from IKEA? I need to get my sewing room organized after seeing yours.
Izzy, you did a wonderful job with your room! Which Juke do you use the most?
Thank you Zelda! I use both Jukis pretty evenly. I sew most of my garments on the DX7 and so all of my quilting on the TL2010Q. 💞
@@dizzyquiltsandsews What Juki machine would you recommend as a starter Juki for someone who wants to sew garments and quilt?
@@ZeldaSews I'm not familiar with all the different Juki models out there, but I wouldn't recommend either of my machines as a starter for garment sewing and quilting. The TL2010 is a straight-stitch machine only and although the DX7 is an amazing machine, the price point is a little high for a complete beginner I think.
It looks amazing. I'm interested to know the height of your cutting table. Are you liking that height? I need to raise mine somehow, just curious ❤
Thank you Shari! I love the height of the cutting table. It's 38".
Oh wow. Thanks I need to look into raising mine up❤
eewwwwwwwwwwwww
