YAMAHA TENERE 700 WORLD RAID - the greatest Tenere ever built?

- Опубликовано: 1 июн 2024
- The irony of the World Raid is that Yamaha built a bike that will inevitably take attention and sales away from its sales champion in the standard T7.
By fusing all the elements that people love about the T7 with enhancements in all the right places, the World Raid has a legitimate claim to be one of - if not the - greatest Tenere ever built.
Non-standard parts on our World Raid:
Pirelli Scorpion Rally tyres
Pollisport handguards
THE GEAR THAT GOT US THERE:
Leatt 7.5 ADV FlowTour jacket and pants
Leatt 5.5 Flexlock boots
Leatt Moto 9.5 carbon helmet

Can we stop asking the Tech question. And start appreciating what the T7 is doing. Think about the pure-driver focused cars over the years; cars that maintain a standard transmission, rear-wheel drive, and a suspension made for driver feel. This is what the T7 offers fans of Dakar, adventure-tourers, and people that care about maintaining their technical riding skills and strength for real adventure. I think we should all be respecting this choice by the Tuning forks, I know I'm grateful. Cheers
I love mine so much, the moment i first rode it and it still felt like a small bike underneath me, it inspires confidence and comfort and is just a dream to ride and adventure on
The more I watch off-road videos of you Aussies, the more I want to move to Australia. Here in India, finding diet roads or trails closeby to major metros is super difficult.
And I'm super envious of the large garage space you guys have. 😊
Just sorted finance on a new Tenere 700 World Raid with a load of extras. The last bike I owned was the Yamaha XT 600. Excited to get out on mine!
Nice one mate!
Nice! Can’t beat new bike day. Enjoy!
Ladybug saving, Ed Sheeran bashing, testicle talk, chocolate analogy, this had everything! I'm impressed with the WR vs the stock, incredible how much fuel placement matters for balance even with longer suspension travel. And when it comes to tech, I don't want any of it really. Sure it works great, but I rarely use it, rather pay less upfront.
Excellent video, love the cinematography - I need to get to AUS ASAP!
@johannesDalen I think many have missed out on the World Raid thinking it was a heavy T7 . The weight balance on this bike is impressive.
The lack of Cruise Control for a bike in this segment against KTM, Husky, Honda AT and Aprilla, really leaves it out of my decision making for a Mid Size ADV all in one bike
Haha😂 good luck!
If you need cruise control, better off buying a couch!
After market Cruise ! 🤔
But I would never trust anything else than my right wrist .
Cruise control? You are looking at the wrong bike. This thing is for the dirt. It is perfect except for the extra dollars Yamaha Australia slugs us.
This isn’t competing against the Africa twin mate.
I can't say how much i enjoyed watching this ! (for the second time) the quality footage , great story telling , brilliant sense of humour . And above all you don't take yourself too seriously . Best thing I have watched on RUclips in a long time. and also i own a world raid , so had to like it..
Loved the intro 👌😂 I've been lucky enough to have had my world raid for nearly 2 years now, where you guys in Oz are only just getting yours. I absolutely adore mine. Mine is treated as an enduro bike here in the UK, purely for offroad use, it's so good, mine has taken everything I've eve thrown at it with ease and more, and trust me, it's been through some shit 😂
Love the Nescafé soundtrack at the start!! Awesome vid Damo as per usual!!! I actually took a T7 for a test this morning (first ride of one) and I loved ittttt
Love the video. I’m now saving for a world raid as my first adventure bike because you get the benefit of off-road capability and ability to tour with the bigger tank
I'm more on the cruiser side (when it comes to motorcycles), but for some reason Tenere has always attracted my attention. A wonderful motorcycle.
The video is also great, by the way. Calm and pleasant presentation of the material. It was very nice to watch!
The T7 and particularly the World Raid is a very special bike. So well engineered. Nothing needed apart from adjusting ergo’s for rider build. It is and will be a classic. Love riding them.
Tech I installed aftermarket on my T7 World Raid: Healtech Quickshifter, Kaoko throttle lock, LSK ABS dongle (for quickly changing modes with the ABS button instead of menu), CLS chain oiler, heated grips and a lot more.
Nice setup!
Putting more crap/changing it doesn't mean it's better
Have a WR for 5 months now. It’s the best. I just ride it and accept it for what it is. Some small personalisation but not going to spend money where not needed. Your review is awesome Damo. Thanks mate 🙌🏾
What a well produced video, I applaud you on the effort you put into this , Up there with the best of them Thank you
Loved your vid! Funny informative and entertaining thanks brother ride safe!
Nice trail. Good ,angles, good video editing. Respect ! And hell yes,I think that quick shifter would be useful!
The only thing missing on so many midsize bikes is cruise control. For some reason it's reserved for the flagship bikes that are just too heavy, too thirsty. Some of us don't trailer bikes to the trail. Some of us aren't car drivers. Some of us need bikes as transport across all surfaces, from hours on the highway, to hours on the trail.
Buy The KTM 890 Adv R - That has Cruise control :)
@@sprockets_shafts is the speed control based on destroying the cams if you go too fast?
@@gasdive - no issues so far 🤣but time will tell.
@@sprockets_shaftsit would be way more exciting than a tenere too. I had a tenere for a few years and found it too boring.
@@blade1535 - I have come from riding sportsbikes and ‘big’ adventure bikes. I wanted a compromise so I went for the KTM 890 adv r. I can honestly say that it’s the first bike I have owned where I have no thought of my next bike. It can tour, go offroad (excellently) and give me the excitement I thought I would miss from ‘so called’ faster bikes I have had previously. The only negative I do have is the seat isn’t that comfy on longer days in the saddle…but it doesn’t bother me.
As always, terrific review and footage. Thanks ADV LIFE.
Cheers mate 🍻
no no no no.... My T7 is the greatest !!!!
xe xe xe xe !!!
Cheers from Greece man !!
Great fun review, thanks. It would be great to see it left as standard as you can.
From my perspective the simplicity is its greatest asset. I don’t want all the extra dongles because they take away from my riding experience. Less complexity also means less that can breakdown on a longer trip. My current two bikes are pretty basic (1972 Triumph Tiger TR6, and 2023 DRZ400s), and I prefer that simplicity to maintain and ride with.
Yep, good point there mate.
The main fault is the exhaust can mount which should have been rubber mounted instead of welded to the subframe as ultimately it compromises the sub frame when the bike is dropped. I will fit a high run pipe on mine when I buy it. Also it should have had tubeless rims in this day and age to at least give the rider the option of tubeless.
The HP Corse high mount exhaust is a great option. I have it on mine
Cruise control and tubeless tires would have me by one tomorrow , these are deal breakers on a ADV for me.
Wire throttle, no cruise control. And for real offroad I prefer the tubes.
For that price definitely deal breaker.
U can excuse that shit on klr, this is not cheaper than AT which is completely insane
this is why the Lord created the Tuareg. 😃😃😂😂 I got quickshifter too...and heated grips.....😅😅😅
@@powertrip1050 Tuareg is the best adv right now, but Kove 800x is coming very soon and it's even lighter at 190kg rtr ;]
And even better suspension
Another entertaining review Damo
I own the World Raid and loved it out of the box, I have added things to mine to personalise it such as the high fender kit, bash plate, grips, gps, chain guide.....what do I wish it came with factory? 🤔 the chain guide and cruise control would have been nice but it wasnt a deal breaker.
Put a hp Corsa on mine to tuck the exhaust away if (when) I drop it. It also really suits the bike. Also have heated grips, spots, rear rack, chain oiler and some other mods. Still a top heavy bike I think
Jättebra massa tipps Robert 👍🏻 tar med mej några av dom på mina två små resor i sommar 😊👍🏻
Mvh/Wikstöm
Just did a 10,000km loop down to Southern Morocco and back to Scotland on mine. Perfect I think. The economy over the 1L bikes is really very noticeable.
Great review on the T7 and the info around the off-road performance.
The only tech I would add would be slipper clutch and a single off-road mode button which would turn off or on the rear abs and TC and as you mentioned rear rack and the center stand, that's all I need.
What's your review and so far experience with the new Leatt's flowtour 7.5 ADV jacket? As I am planning to get the same later this month.
That was my first ride in the gear. It started in 40 degrees (celcius) and ended in a massive storm so it was a good workout. Can't fault it at all. Great ventilaition in the heat, slightly small fit to the jacket, lots of pockets and good armour. The pants are perfect. I'll be giving it a massive workout with a month in the desert prety soon.
No traction control on the T7 or World Raid . That's the throttle.
Great video, thanks!
Another great video Damo. As a very happy well traveled owner of the original T7 I'm of the opinion "if it ain't broke don't fix it". A few basic mods to the original and you are good to go IMO. Keeping the T7 simple is where the attraction lies for me and hence its reliability. The biggest one improvement Yamaha could have made with this World Raid is to make it a 900cc. Then they would have me contemplating my options.
Yes a 900 would be nice and may be coming, but I think with the more power that it would need rider aides like traction control for the road and maybe a mode for less or more low down power for off road.
I just don’t want Yamaha to introduce the 900 for the Super Tenere, can not understand why an updated ST10 has not been introduced, a bit lighter and a bit more power and the world class Yamaha reliability, it would be a smash hit, but I digress 🙈
Did you change the suspension on yours , mine finds its limits pretty quick on rough tracks, (harsh initial stroke then too soft on big hits), is the only thing I'd change on mine, otherwise perfect.
What part of oz were you riding looks stunning 👍
A lot of tech would be good on this bike and in a few years it will have it all like Aprilia and KTM. I love the cruise control on my Tuareg. Why not, they already have the look and reliability checked. Lessen the top heavyness and add the tech! (Cruise, traction, quickshift, tubeless, RBW, and maybe better suspension on the standard T7)
Great video :)
I've added upgraded ABS Sensor Rotors from Off-the-road germany, to fix the Speedo error margin. I've added heated grips for winter riding. I've installed the motology side-by-side dash so that I can fit both the Tenere Screen AND the XT2 next to each other. I've also added the ABS fix to allow the ABS button to be the control it should have been from factory. The thing I miss most and I think is really a disaster is the lack of Cruise Control. Cruising the highways without Cruise Control is a recipe for speeding fines. I can't believe there isn't a mod for this other than those stupid accelerator grips.
Great review, Just completed a Trip doing the Vic High Country with Greg Y at RideADV. I have a Multistrada V4s 2022. Im now looking to sell it for a World Raid T7. Ill definately miss the Quick Shifter from my Ducati. Levers I will change, Exhaust I will Change, Also the rear welded fram on the new WRT7 is a concern..
Hi, isn't there a problem when driving with two people?
Personal question (maybe): how much do you weigh? I read a lot of comments of people saying they need to upgrade the shocks. I am not trying to be Pol Tarrès, just some light TET and maybe a tour of Morocco next year. Looking at the World Raid to do those things. I weigh around 102kg with 193cm.
100kgs mate. I wound on 4 turns of rear preload and I was happy 😊
Great video, I would like slippers clutch and traction control that one could turn off and for setting to stay on until changed by the rider.
Otherwise a perfect motorcycle.
I think the only tech oversight was the omission of cruise control. As a bike capable of big distance and long days in the saddle I think this would be a great addition. The lack of cruise is why I brought an 890R instead of the big yammy. The rest of the tech is nice to have but not a deal breaker, but cruise is(for me anyway).
I just installed a Kaoko throttle lock to compensate the lack of cruise control on my World Raid. Problem solved.
Can't put cruise control on a wire throttle bike.
the reason i want this bike over the comp is the analog throttle, i hate electronics, more things that have to get fixed by a dealership then myself, the only thing i would add if it doesnt have it is heated grips and cruise control
I’ve got a CRF1100 adventure sport… loaded with tech & it’s my first bike with it. The only things I use is heated grips & cruise control & they’re only on rare occasions when I have a long boring winter motorway journey. Everything else is annoying, interfering, distracting & mostly unnecessary. I’m selling it & looking at the world raid as an alternative as it’s the only modern tech free adventure bike available & I really hope Yamaha keep it that way & that other manufacturers follow suit.
Good video, thank you 👍
I’ve got the same bike as you and most of the electronics annoy the shit out of me. The Apple CarPlay works for about 30mins before it crashes for the day. The switchblock was designed by a 4 year old and wheelie control was never actually loaded in, but who needs it anyway?
I love the bike - but Honda can do better
I had CRF 1100 2023..... tenere raid has better position....better balanced....more athletic body....its far better than Africa.....
Africa the only thing it has good is engine and more power
Cows talk of their rear ends, and as we know - that's bull____ ;)
Excellent video / cinematography / scenery presented in a calm and instantly likeable way. I've test ridden 6 ADV's in my price range to date and the WR was the most compelling and fun bike to ride, I could forego not having CC which was near the top of my list. What it does have though is upgraded suspension which is important to me given the current state of our roads 🙄. I now get why others are so attracted to this bike, it's got that something extra that other bikes are lacking.. mint chocolate. It will be my next therapy machine 😁
so for a simple off roads roads like these would you pick this or a Vstrom 800 de ...
The Suzuki because of the engine, gearbox and comfortable seat. The T7 WR for more technical routes though.
@@advlife this tells me all i need to know :D tnx
ive got a choice to make 800DE, T7, or aprilla 660 im leaning towards the 660 but im a big guy and worry my weight will kill highway performance
Im also big guy...i tested all......tenere world raid is the best in mix conditions..800de amazing engine but small size...aprillia its also small and im not trust the engine from Europe
Amazing how if you get the design aesthetic right, you can virtually charge what you want. If the top heavy weight distribution issue of the standard T7 didn’t exist, it would be near perfect as far as the internet is concerned. No tech aids is fine for me but is the only thing the competition has as a point of difference.
Have you bought this as your own personal bike Damo? Interested to find out!
No mate. I still own an Africa Twin Adventure Sports.
Will consider the World Raid, 890 ADV R, Tuareg or V- Strom 800 DE as the next bike though. Or maybe a Norden Expedition…too many to choose from 😂
@ADV LIFE AUS Word Raid vs. Touareg 660 in your opinion?
Not bashing the Aprilia but seems like they are suffering major engine failures which is something that just doesn’t happen to a Yamaha.
@@BillyBoblovesthedirtwhat r u talking about
Aprillia engines are bullshits.... Yamaha trust ....👍
Hoping they bring it to the US & come out with a 70th edition (black and yellow) for 2026... I would place my deposit today
I was surprised to find out you don’t get it in the US. A black and yellow edition would kick arse for sure.
This is just my own taste and opinion but I feel like the Tenere needs another 20 -30 HP to add some excitement.
I found the power curve to be a bit boring. Sold mine after a few years. Just wasn’t a magic bike for me.
Moved on to a more touring with dirt roads bike. If I went back to a mid sized bike I reckon I’d go the KTM 890
As an all seasons highway commuter in Tassie, heated grips would be the first thing I'd want. I'd prefer a factory fitted option & not to have to add the Oxford heated grips with the cheap looking control unit.
Definetely need heated grips in Tassie!
Love mine the way it is, I would maybe make it easier to switch off the ABS.
That lady bug was keeping you safe m8 e was looking out 4 u
Living in chilly Europe my WR is equipped with heated grips but when I would live on the kangaroo island I would opt for cruise control, too bad no ride by wire 🥸
The only electronics I can appreciate is cruise control the rest is not necessary
I own a 2023 T7, hate the seat it on a par with a dunny seat with nails pointing upwards.
what about a high front fender and a better looking exhaust.... otherwise it remains a very good bike for adventure.
Cruise control put it on the 2025 model Yamaha please, and yes i agree an easier way to choose between abs on and abs off.
Mustard dispenser.
Shiatsu bum massager.
Water pic.
Wings.
Torn between Norden, Triumph, Yammie World Raid.
Shiatsu bum massager gets my vote 🙌
auto cruse and better wind deflection, cause it buffering for me
Quick shifter is optional extra. T7 needs no tech. I don’t want to push buttons I want to ride.
Available in the US? No? Figures.....
That’s really odd. I wonder what the thinking is? We don’t get anything other than the standard T7 and Word Raid in Oz. Europe seems to get all the fun stuff.
How da fuk did the drone miss that branch at 18.55
I honestly didn’t see it till it was too late and got super lucky 😬😂
This bike is havy
wider tank for 70+ hp engine bike is not good... They should do under seat Dakar like add better suspension and tubeless tyres!
I'll stick with my husqvarna 701 LR mate 👋🤠👍
The LR was brilliant.
@@advlife was and still is 👋🤠👍
Yup that’s a proper off road bike.
This shit costs 25k in Australia?
No fucking way mate 😂😂
Nice cave watch out for snakes
so jealous you can escape into terrain like that, not something i can do in the middle of the uk
Everyone loves a timtam, but your coin t7wr or tuareg? Seem much for much
Honestly, the fact that we have those two to choose from makes this one of the best eras to buy an adv bike. The Tuareg is more fun for me like a dirtbike, but the dependabilty of the Yamaha is impossible to ignore. I'd be stoked to have either.
Cruse control
Agree.
Cruise Control...The only thing missing
more great humour and scallywag charm😅..not that I know what a scallywag is...bike sound great, but less than Tuareg. but hey, that's ok.😆
Hard to beat that Tuareg!
the only thing that awsome machine needs is crashbars and an ABS dongle and you re good to go
Screw all the modern Tech.
leave the tech in the design room ie. r and d.
let the bike be a bike and the rider be a rider
only thing id change is the skid plate... to black.
Itd be interesting option for 7-8k€, not a cent more
We can leave the world raid just as it is (we just need the damn thing available in the Americas FFS) 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🥴
Tubeless rims
Why would a 16kg heavier bike be better? It's better in exactly one aspect. Fuel range.
Other than that it is worse in every way compared to the new Ténéré 700 Extreme with the same suspension setup. Lighter is always going to perform better in every measurable way.
We dont get the Extreme here in Australia - only the T7 and World Raid.
16kg heavier and same same engine hp/nm. No thanks. I was trying my hardest to strip weight off my T7.
Heated grips and heated seat (at the expense of being a diva). Cruise if it doesn't have it but nothing else is required for me. Obviously heated seat is a big overkill but sure is nice. Especially for early spring or late fall rides in Canada. Heated seat on a snowmobile is magnificent. Still not a must have but is amazingly nice to have. You can't knock it until you try it really, like people used to scoff at heated grips.
Also, even if they don't want to supply the actual rack they could at least provide the mounts for it and pannier racks. That shouldn't cost them much more so they can maintain the price more or less. Center stand should indeed come standard on any bike I think, and its misleading to buyers on the T7's weight when compared to Adv bikes that come with one, like KTM's 990 Adventure did but their 890 does not (or at least it didn't at one time). Initially I thought oh wow the 890 is X lbs lighter than the 990 but wait not so quick - that is not apples-apples comparo because the 990 came with a center stand. Knock so many pounds off for that and the weight comparo looks better in favour of the old 990. Still heavier but not as much. Anyway, World Raid model for the extra money should come with one and the mounts for the tail rack. Obviously all tail racks won't necessarily fit the holes Yamaha provides but you could then build your own or the aftermarket companies could more easily and less expensively provide adaptor kits to mount their own plates. Maybe World Raid already had tail rack support points but I don't know that.
