Thanks for this bro! I have been thinking of making myself some mokume for a while now and I just got my rolling mill in the mail last week. I know exactly what to use this for! I’m working on a big project right now that I can’t reveal yet that has taken me a while to perfect I guess you could say, and once I’m done with it I’m going to make another out of mokume gane wire and I think it is going to be bad ass. So once I saw that you had done this I was really excited to see how you made your wire. Good job man! 👍 It looks awesome!

That was cool! I didn't notice if you soldered the subsequent twists. Does the rolling mill bind the metal together?
I flux the wire after I twist it again so the solder that is already on it will flow again and fuse it all together so you only need to add solder to it that one time.

Its looks nice but as far as mokume gane goes, isn't that supposed to be welded together, not soldered? The end result looks about the same but the welded version is probably way stronger?
You are right that it is normally welded together. The welded version might be stronger but in this case I don't think this will matter much. 😀

Thank you and you only have to solder it once. Every time you heat it make sure to use flux so the solder can flow again.

Yeah you can do this with gold but I don't have the money to try it out haha. I want to make a sheet but that is going to be a lot of work.
What would you recommend for flux with gold solder (brand wise).
Will Argentium silver work as well?
It should, I have honestly never tried it though.
Do you use different pickle for each? Or do you use the same one? Because at my college classes we had one pickle for copper and another for brass.
Hi Randy...I'm new to this...I just soldered my first two pieces of round 16 ga. wire into rings...I'm patting myself in the back...lol...first time with no problems...I have a question...Can I just solder the three pieces of wire together to make a ring maybe flatten them out some first...I do have 16 ga. in sterling, copper and brass and not use the rolling mill...I only have soft solder with flux in the syringe... I'm afraid it's going to take me a few months to buy just all the basic tools I need plus the various solders and all the metal...My sister and I are going to take a metal smithing class together this fall...I'm so excited...lol... she's already gone through the beginning and intermediate classes...nice of her to take the beginning class with me again and pay for it and the metals too...anyway I love your videos...I've learned so much from you already...Will you be doing any new videos...I see these are a year or more old...
Well hello. I don't know how that would work out with just using thinner metals and soft solder. Also by soft solder do you mean soft or easy? This can be done using a drill and a hammer but it will take longer and you would have to be careful when forming it, so you don't have to use a mill bit it makes it a lot easier.

Hi Gomeow, thanks for the video.
I've tried and the first twist was no problems, then the second twist, one wire broke, the third twist another one broke. (By twist I mean the full process that you repeated 5-6 times off camera).
Any suggestions? Also, I'd like (once I can make the small gauge one) do a bigger wire, is twisting 3 mokume small gauge a good idea?

Perhaps rotate it less with the drill? Or rotate it only a little bit, take it out, anneal again, pickle, rotate more. I have no experience with this but just a suggestion.
G'day, excellent video as usual. Would it be at all possible, although very difficult, to do this with a draw plate?
I'm sure you can but it might have some week points in it.
@@GomeowCreations What if I heated it to forging temperature as I pulled it through the draw plate? Do you think that might work to alleviate weak spots? It might get even more of a blending effect too, more like the effect of the plate form of mokume.
@@GomeowCreations I tried it, I had limited success. I tried using 4 wires, I think its one too many, and just copper and brass, It worked in some areas and not others. I think I need to solder it in a few more places than I did, I had unwinding issues while drawing it, and go down to one wire and I might have a nice wire with a draw plate. I will try again soon and let you know, I think my main problem is I didn't solder it as much as you did.
I am now officially a Pepe Girl. I'm expecting my new rolling mil today. It even said it's out for delivery. This is going to be my first project since I am mainly a wire artist. This is amazing. I have a question though; is it more or less the same steps to make sheet out of this technique or do i have to do something different?
Congrats and I hope you like the mill. So you can make sheets do using this but it's going to be small. If you are going to make a bigger sheet your going to need to stack sheets of metal to make it and will take a lot of heat me make it.
@@GomeowCreations update: I now have the mill and all I need is to play with it a little before deciding on the permanent location.
A lot of heat🤔 can I use my Mapp torch?
A lot of people use a forge to heat the piece then it is that thick, not I don't think you can use a mapp torch for it. I would just try to make thinner pieces
have you noticed any problems with galvanic corrosion, mixing copper and silver? Beautiful work.
Thank you and I don't think that is a thing when it comes to these metals. I haven't send any problems with the extra wire that I have and sterling silver is made up of a mix of silver and copper 😊
So it’s okay to “pickle” all those metals at the same time in your regular pickle?
Yes but be careful with how long you leave it in seeing that it will eat away at the brass if you leave it in too long and make the metal very weak.
GomeowCreations Thanks so much! I keep my pickle warm and it only takes a few seconds, but was just wondering if I’ve contaminated my pickle IF the next time I want to do silver only.

HOW TO MAKE STRAIGHT LINE MUKUME GANE IN THREE COLOURS OF GOLD
I think it's pronounced with two syllables of first word "Mo-kume" with a hard "O" and "kume"rhymes with "room"; "gane" is pronounced in one syllable w/ a hard "A" sound, as in "game".

First of all it your wire looks awesome. But second of all, I don’t think you can call this mokume. The technique is complete different because you soldered it, please try to make the real mokume sometime! 🖤
I’m just afraid that people think that mokume is just folded and soldered metals together.
I have done the same thing using no solder and just silver wire with the copper and brass and it works the same way. The silver will melt and flow on its own. 😅👍
