This is the new Citroen C5 X!
The new C5 X is a mix of a few different cars. It comes with a ride height similar to an SUV, a big estate-sized boot, along with the interior room & comfort of a saloon! So is it the right car for you? Let’s take a look!
It’s got a pretty stylish exterior design, with Citroen’s traditional upside-down headlight style along with a smart chrome strip across the front. Around the back, it’s got some stylish wrap-around taillights coupled with a boot lip spoiler. We’re not a big fan of the plastic bumper though.
Thankfully, there’s little to complain about on the inside. There are high-quality materials throughout, along with a big infotainment screen, digital dials and a whole lot of storage. The seats are also super comfortable, too!
There’s a choice of petrol engines available, with the range-topper being a plug-in hybrid which combined an electric motor with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine to deliver 225hp. All models come with an automatic gearbox along with FWD.
The price starts from just under £28,000, but is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself!

Not sure what you're talking about, most cars today approach the driving aspect from a comfort angle instead of a sporty one.
You only got Ford, BMW and somewhat Mazda whose regular cars offer a sporty edge. Obviously I'm not including pure sports car manufacturers like Porsche or Lambo here since they're not exactly accessible to the average guy.
Sheer comfort ala Mercedes S-class is expensive, that's why you don't see it in the mainstream segment.

A drive in a modern fleet spec Audi A4 s line 2.0tdi is a lesson in back ache but it's an expensive car, the fiesta much praised for its handling is actually quite a harsh riding cheaply built little thing that an old mk3 golf couldn't out perform but certainly is nicer to drive for a few hours

I don't know how you can call a base spec A4 a lesson in back ache, all A4s I drove so far seemed like boats to me, main reason why I avoid most VAG products.

In the past, with Citroën's hydraupneumatic suspension, if you wanted to change the stiffness of your suspension, you could replace the hydraulic spheres with different ones that had different characteristics which resulted in an entirely different suspension feel. Additionally, with newer models, the suspension stiffens up more depending on your driving. If you drive a bit "wilder" the suspension's default will be more stiff than the factory default and this is saved across driving sessions.

I didn't hear him mention the word in this review, but I know Citroen is known for it, and I already like this car enough that if I ever find myself living in Europe in the future I will be trying to find one of these as a daily driver, but having that suspension would just be icing on the cake as we don't get anything at all with it over here in the US.

My dashcam caught a conversation between two mechanics when I took mine for it's MOT and service recently (they drove it to an MOT station). They were saying it was the most comfortable car they'd ever been in. Obviously never been in the older big Citroëns then. I reckon this C5X will be even better in most circumstances. You are correct Citroën did license hydro active suspension to Rolls Royce and Bentley. I have a C5 x7 Exclusive hydro active 3 plus. I will have to book a test drive to see how it compares to my V6 saloon?

Could it be that the 0-60 is faster, because Citroën measures 0-100 km/h, and 60 mph is only 96 km/h which it'll reach faster? I feel like you normally use 62 mph, but it's still weird that we have 2 different measurements for something that should be similar.

    Good video, as always, Matt.😊
Time and gain…. I watch eagerly when I hear words like ‘comfort’ and ‘sophisticated’. And, lots of cars seem to cover this reasonably well. But then, every time, there’s massive disappointment when we get to the ‘reveal’ on the engine; we hear that it’s got less capacity than a hairdryer!
I know, I know!… these manufacturers will tell us that they have done lots of customer research which reveals that the average user of their products want this kind of electric tin opener power plant….
But, seriously, I know a lot of people, myself included, who drive so-called ‘luxury’ cars (V8 engined BMWs, etc) who don’t drive the badge and who would genuinely consider a car like this… if only it had something under the bonnet (‘hood’ for our chums in the US) that had enough torque not to have to be changing down three gears every time it came to climb a minor gradient!
You can strap as many turbochargers as you like to a hairdryer-engine to achieve 300bhp, but it’s still no better than a muscular flea trying to push its dog uphill on an icy day. Take the current Volvo XC90…. Over 300bhp from a 2.0l engine… that’s trying to drag along a 2 tonne car! It’s drawn a lot of well deserved criticism from owners and the press.
So, more manufacturers, please, please, please, we’re not asking for much… not even a V8…. Just a 3.0l petrol turbo and all wheel drive. That’s all. Nothing more.
And, yes, it can be done…Kia have done it, beautifully!
