Hours and hours watching Vikings made me see Bjorn as the best warrior and Hvitserk proved me wrong *in under 3 minutes*
This is why I enjoyed Hvitserk as a character. When not fighting he is full of uncertainty and ill fortune. But when fighting, he was a beast- literally. Rage and slaughter are so natural to him, and he always seemed at peace in war. Im convinced that he was actually a Berserker and that out of all Ragnars sons, he should have lived the lone life of a Berserker far earlier in the series. But alas the pain he experienced in his life fueled the beast within. Enjoyed his development as a character.
There is definitely a parallel between Hvitserk and Rollo in terms of them not knowing what their life is meant for, but being amazing fighters. Obviously Rollo is only an uncle to Hvitserk but I think that's why Hvitserk is the one Rollo told he would come to help them in season 5. They also both ended up being Christian kings (or lords? I dont recall what Hvitserk ended up being).
I just finished the show recently, I'm just really happy it ended with good writing after the atrocity that befell GoT. Good comment though I agree :).
Also, perhaps just coincidence, but Rollo is the only one to have a spear throwing scene very similar to this one back in S2 when he was defending Kattegat. I think it's all intentional parallels though, as they seemed to be very similar to each other. I could be wrong though.
@@Ormais Yeah Rollo had very similar scenes to Hvitserk. The spear throw was one of them. I thought the same when I saw it.

Hvitserk lived up to Ragnar's name when it came to fighting on the battlefield. I would say he was the most dangerous out of all of the sons in one on one combat

Hvitserk is the best fighter out of all of Ragnar's sons. I'd even put him over Bjorn. Not as a leader, or tactician...just pure 1 on 1 fighting ability. Dude fights like a damn demon.

@@Demos_Jeff im Norwegian and i grew up being told i was related to Halvdan Ragnarson (Hvitserk) by my now deceased aunt. Who spent her life researching our ancestry. When i started watching vikings i was disappointed in his lack of ambition and purpose in the show. Now i love the character, he’s such a badass at fighting

And sometimes they take drugs for example a posionous mushroom that makes people go crazy. A berserker is not someone who just fights insanely good. And they mostly lived all alone as outcasts. Kings used berserkers as their guards sometimes cause people dont like being around them and they are known as violent fearless and literally crazy warriors. It is also said that they would bite their shield to hold back the rage they have so they dont lose control before the battle starts. So basically a berserker is a warriors who is crazy fearless and brutaly strong

My favorite fighter of the brothers. Yes he wasnt as strong as Bjorn but in some ways hes more skilled and the way he fights is just amazing to watch. Im glad he made it through to the end 🙌🏼

Marco illsø is like Jason stathamn when it comes to fight on screen. In one way the make it look realistic. Not acting it is like watch a real fight.

hvitserk totally underrated. his "weak" personality overshadowed his insane battlefield scenes, which i only really learned to acknowledge after rewatching.
Ngl I really wanted Hvitserk to make a rush at Alfred. Would’ve been a good fight, tired of seeing mains cut through randoms

This was probably top 3 in fighting scenes, you can feel the rush and the desperation, they actually tryharding to kill Hvitserk, but they just can't, he's too much for them.
First, Rollo was a loser who slept on the streets, after which he had an opportunity and gained recognition in Paris. Then we have Hvitserk who was a drunk addict who, literally, was the best in battle and had fantastic merit. Perhaps the theory that the losers still have a chance to win in life is true.
Hvitserk was the Ragnarsson that took after Rollo the most. Their arcs are very similar.

This scene is perfect to see hvitserk fall down for the first half of the season and come back was something to be proud of, hearing the soldier scream its the son of ragnar kill him was good to hear because in my opinion he is the best combatant of his brothers despite not being as strong nor as trained as bjorn was and he never got recognition by anyone in the story and yeah he was troubled but that was because he carried alot of burdens

If Ivar didnt stop Hvitserk he would have killed Alfred. I am sure of it. But Ivar wanted to go to Valhalla which is also understandable.
How can you be sure? Has Hirst, or the writer (if not Hirst) confirmed that theory? It's just a strange thing to act as if you know how a scene you didn't write would have played out if characters you had no hand in creating acted otherwise than they did.
Many people actually think Hvitserk would have been killed either by Alfred or before he got to Alfred, due to exhaustion, had Ivar not stepped in. You make it sound like Ivar did a selfish thing ("He wanted to go to Valhalla"), when in fact, by another interpretation, he did something selfless here, namely, stepping in to save his brother from almost certain doom.
But hey, you're sure of it. Lol

Bit disappointed overall with the Hvitserk character. Halfdan (aka Hvitserk) was the king of Northumbria and also king of Denmark at some point I think. They basically made him out to be someone who couldn’t live by himself and had to have Ivar with him or he broke down. They kind of did him justice at the end especially in this scene but having him convert to Christianity just to pay tribute to a completely made up character was a bit shitty.
