    Very cool! These bikes were the mutts nutts back in the day. As a teenager owning one of these, that must have been incredible.

    At the age of 16 that felt powerfull, but now 15 years later that kinda looks comical. :) Those were the days, gone forever, when you accelerated and when you turned the throttle, and set off for a dark summer night.

      haha! i know what ya mean. Had an RS125 with a 160cc kit on it back when i was 16-18. Just here for the nostalgia. They still are cool as hell bikes, if you're 17. You're the king of the road among 16 year olds with a bike like that or the NSR supersprint. No idea what kids drive today but they're probably still around. But yea its weird to look back so many years, that entire engine doesn't have enough CCs to even fill one cylinder on my current Z1000r. They felt so big and powerful back when we were younger. Its the biggest bike you're allowed to ride until you hit 18, so in the teenage world its like owning a ferrari compared to what the rest of them ride. Oof do you remember all the shit talking aswell that went with having a bike like that? God, i still remember one of the guys at my school who swore his 125 CBR would keep up with GSXR 750s and shit. " Easy ". HAHA. Had more fun memories riding around on my RS125 at 16-18 with friends. Than i do now at 29, riding mostly alone as none of my friends ride. Except for 1.

      @ So it's funny, I still own an RS125, not this one anymore. Yes it's "slow" compared to a thou, but for the odd occasion in the summer when I do go out and ride out it's more than adequate.
      I think more than anything, it's about working on it as an "amateur" mechanic. It's simple to work on and "easy" to get a noticeable power increase out of it.
      I done my bike license shortly after I took this video, but I never actually upgraded to a bigger bike.

      @@Caluma122 i sold my 600 cbr rr a year ago for an aprilia rs 125. Even though it doesnt run as well as the 600 4 stroke, I have much more fun with it. Going through gears on a 125cc 2 stroke and self maintaining is much more statisfying . The only next bike i can think of is a cruiser like the hayabusa

    Great , really enjoyed this. The way that you have managed to capture the 2stroke buzz is amazing, thank you. Calum who did your port work on your new rs125 with 140 italkit cylinder that's one best built rs125 I have ever seen on the 125 project scene in my life and like you I been about a long time 2stroke life mick abby fast road tune I got and jollymoto115 corsa 34 flat side delllorto

    • @Caluma122
      @Caluma122  4 года назад

      Oh decent. I didn't get any porting work done to that one I am afraid. Power wise it's not much more than standard, certainly feels a tad slower than this RS but then maybe I am just fatter.
      I had Mick do my DTR barrel and I wasn't overly impressed. But that might be down to my tune rather than his porting work.
      The main staple on my new RS is that it was a bike saved from the scrap yard and I made a hydraulic clutch. Its nice to ride and has more power than my DTR.

      @@Caluma122 reply fast as my rs125 lol my cylinder went back 3 times its pego 30 old cylinder he went 140 and got same porting work as 125 got 34bhp on dyno with that port work as mine seen your mick abby dt125 now that dt 125 was rapid did you have a bigger carb and zeeltronic nice set up both got same carb 34 delllorto flat love you rs125 when it going on dyno then

    • @Caluma122
      @Caluma122  4 года назад

      @@trianedtog0417 My RS needs to go on a dyno to be fair, see what power it's making.
      I have only just this week been able to go out on it. I am very pleased with it's setup. It's doing 100mph when you click it into 6th and pulls well.
      It is, however, pretty much unrideable below 6K. And it rides well between 8-11 and the power, for whatever reason, drops off. I am still bedding the engine in and I will try light her up to 14K, where the Zeeltronic has a soft RPM limit.
      I think the gearing is slightly too tall, does like 30mph in first, and I noticed if you shut the throttle off at high speed, it'll decelerate so quickly that you will need to knock it down a couple of gears.
      That said, this is far superior to my DT in every aspect. That DTR is so SLOW! It's a pity really. The thing about the DTR, is that it is rideable at 4K rpm. The RS gets tiresome having to scream it. But you can't go down dual carriage ways on the DTR as you are just screaming it's neck. The DTR is a great town bike and commuter to work and back. And the RS will do all those back roads and longer journeys.
      I am very happy with how this project has turned out!

      No, RAVE solenoid on this one. On my new one I run the Italkit pneumatic, simply because I very rarely use the bike so it's just one less thing to worry about.

    Nice bike. I need your advice. Doesn't riding with bigger cylinder damage crankshaft and gearbox over time? I'm going to get myself Aprilia RS 125 (2007+) with 144cc Wiseco cylinder so it would be great if you could comment on that.
    Thanks!

    • @Caluma122
      @Caluma122  10 лет назад +4

      It's a bit of a silly question really. Over time a standard cylinder will eventually damage the Crankshaft, gearbox etc. The thing about the standard cylinder is that Aprilia have designed the bottom end to take it. They've ensured that the engine is correctly balanced to allow that piston to rotate 14'000 times per min. Any big bore will alter this 'Balancing' and thus will increase wear to the bottom end. This should not be taken lightly. Whilst the 144 kit is only a very small displacement increase it is still an displacement increase and therefore will ever so slightly unbalance the engine.
      If you are like me and you are meticulous about your bikes then you'll realise that maintenance is the key to any two stroke performance bike. With that in mind so long as you make sure that there are no knocking or rattles then the big bore won't effect you much. Naturally it'll increase wear but by increasing your maintenance you can avoid any expensive repairs. Despite what people say the Aprilia is an excellent bike and is reliable as any 33 bhp two stroke 125 out there. Maintenance is the key.

      2001. The engines used can be found from 2000-2012 when the rs was killed off and the rs4 was released. Earlier RS's ran an inferior 123 engine.

    • @Caluma122
      @Caluma122  8 лет назад +1

      Depends. That could run the 122 engine or the 123. It'll tell you next to the cylinder on the crank case.
      These bikes in factory form straight from the factory derestricted were 26bhp. There is certainly room for improvement. Depends how deep your pockets are.

      Dominik To Ja They are superb in factory form. However getting an Aprilia whose engine is not on its last legs can be difficult. I am the admin of a motorbike forum where we discuss two stroke tuning. I am in the process of tuning a rotax 122 engine for respectable performance.
