I go over the costs of running my Aprilia RS 125 and compare it to my old 4 stroke. Let me know whether you have any questions and I'll happily answer them.

Get the bridge cut in the ECU. Remove the soft rubber on the underside of your ECU til you see the circuit bridge and cut it either side creating a gap so it's not connected in anyway. Replace with new silicone rubber ; ) . I had a few RS's as a lad and that was the 1st thing I did when I got one. De-restricts the engine giving you the full 33hp on the older models which you have. Optionally but highly recommended remove your airbox and replace with a cold air intake (custom a K&N air filter onto it) adjust your carb for the extra air intake as you go or use a dyno, this will add a further 1-2hp. It's the difference between night and day on these little pocket rockets. They become absolutely rapid. You're welcome.

CDI mod is correct. But I'd keep the original airbox since the cold air intake gets from the front anyway. Adding an air filter like you say is just going to cause constant carburation adjustments at any time weather changes. 34-36mm carburator and a PVL or Selettra (125 model) will do much better than such filter mod.
With a PVL or Selettra you get your wiring loom cutted out of power, all you have to do is just rewire it so it gets power from the battery, and you can simply make a connector for the battery so you can recharge it any time you need.
These mods will give you all you need to enjoy a 125.
Avoid 160cc Polini cylinder kit. You get better results by simply cleaning fusion refuses from the original rotax cylinder and with a good cylinder head. You can also have a different squish with stock head, if needed. Don't mess too much with the compression ratio or you could damage your engine.
Get a good reed valve, such as the V-Force3 by Moto Tassinari.
This way the bike will be efficient, reliable and will give you less headaches.

Remember, you have a 125 2t, the cost is high but rimember, you have a 125 2t if you want you can put that near 200km/h
They're total unquie to ride compared to other 4 strokes

Great little running costs review buddy! love the comparisons between the RS 50 and RS 125 ;) I remember my Rieju MRT 50 SM Pro that was 2 stroke and the main problems I was having was the spark plug messing up. My fuel was running rich and I had to keep cleaning the spark plugs but overall 2 strokes are fun little bikes and brilliant for beginner riders ;)
They are a lot more fun to ride than 4 strokes!
However my next bigger bike will probably be a 4 stroke (for the reliability)

@@RossRS There are no bigger 2-strokes on the market because of the damn emission regulations. So the only options are 4-strokes. The reliability of 2-strokes aren't bad they are just different because a 2-stroke might get minor issues every now and then but they are easy to fix and even if there are bigger problems they shouldn't be too difficult to fix. If anything happens to a 4-stroke of to the workshop pros it goes at least if it's somewhat bigger than an oil change

Ive had a 2t moped for a while now after fixing som minor things and cleaning the carburretor it was fine. Need to clean the spark plug now and then but thats something to excpect thats not it being unreliable. So i dont get the scare of 2t bikesbecause they will break down. My friends have bought brand new 4t and they have broken gearbpxes and electrical issues all over them meanwhile my 15 year old 2t is running fine.
@@joelnilsson7129 Yea. i also own an aprilia rs 125. My 4 stroke chinese keeway 125cc broke down after 12k km. i dunno but that aprilia is more cost effective
@@Tiwey I have the 2-Stroke Aprilia rs125 now the variant from 2005 and I haven't driven it but do u have the 4-stroke or 2-stroke variant? As well why would u buy a Chinese 125cc a moped from China I can understand but those only go 50kmph a 125cc is way faster u don't want those to break down.
@@joelnilsson7129 oh i forgot to answer you. I own the lion replica aprilia rs 125 mpb (2005). that chinese 4 stroker was my first bike and it is disapointing. alltho its fixed and i use it as my daily commuter. i take out the aprilia for nice days to rip it
Don't ever be afraid to take parts off as they will in most cases go back on.. you will learn by looking so don't worry give it a go there is always some 1 out there to help if it goes real wrong.

speaking of experience I had a rs 50 that could do 55 mph .but the best was the smell of two stroke .back in the year of 97

Wow, this was only 5 years ago and you could get a decent RS for £1000. Now it would be about £2000
I had couple smaller cc bikes , bunch of tomos mopeds no problems there even the style of my riding ( not changing gear untill red line ) , now Im riding honda nsr 125 2002 , bought it for 800 euros , when I bought it spent 300 euros on top end rebuild piston cylinder new carb sprockets.... , I bought it and done rebuild last November and still runing well , 1 thing on 2 strokes when winter comes get a piston with 2 or more piston rings smaller carb and put more 2 stroke oil .

I think I would prefer larger CC 4 strokes compared to 2 strokes. But at the moment when I'm limited to a 125cc, 2stroke is great fun

I have to disagree with the unreliable 2 stroke bit, I had a 10 plate rs 125 and the only times it gave up was down to whoever was riding it, it was always kept outside uncovered and no matter what the weather it started almost straight away unless it was left a few days unused then it took about 10 seconds to get going. Friends abused it (even though I asked them not to) thrashed it when it was cold, slipped the clutch like there was no tomorrow and I changed the piston n clutch around 11k miles and it had at least another 10k worth in them both and that was all that got changed along with a clutch cable which snapped from rubbing on the sheath. I had a cr85 as well which never missed a beat until somebody emptied the radiator n didn't fill it up so melted the rings on it overtaking a car and that was the same started first time everything but as long as you sorta look after them they shouldn't just give up
Bennie Bounce same here they are really very reliable. My 2 stroke full power 54 plate RS did about 7,000 miles before needing a new top end (going to be ready for summer hopefully)
Hardman 190 needing to replace a top end at 7000 miles is not reliable even for a two stroke
It's every 6000 miles for the RS250. When it makes 240bhp per litre it's highly strung in road form. But when an engine this small develops that much bhp. On 1980's technology. Things will wear, they rev harder than 4t, don't have fancy oil suppression rings or holes in the Pistons, fire everyother stroke generating lots of heat. Nope it's not going to last compared to a heavy 4t. That may last 30000 miles but cost up a rebuild on a sports bike even if you do the work yourself and it's £1000's.

Overall if you have to buy a cylinder kit and do a rebuild sometimes its totaly worth it! I mean its way faster than a 4t 125, and since i Will be limited to a 125 I rather spend more money and have some fun
This may sound like a dumb question, but how would you downshift? What I mean is, would rev matching like on a 4 stroke work? or would it be better to just brake and shift whilst holding the clutch?
You downshift in the same way. I would downshift then hold the clutch in to avoid engine braking.
Please reply - What position is the fuel on? What position is off and what position is reserve? Just got an aprilia and I cant tell
harveyuu Vertical is on, anti clockwise (left) is off and clockwise (right) is reserve.
2T pro's: no valves, no timing chain/belt, no oil change, no oil pump (i mean can premix if wish), less weight, much stronger, cheaper tuning
2T contra's: Smelly clothes, almost double consumption, louder, good exhaust system needed, cannot be converted to LPG
12,000 us what was the miles did it have when you purchased it??
I remember it cost alot in 2 stroke oil and little bits and bobs like throttle cables and shit, cool bikes though, ever thought about doing your a1?
Oil is definitley an ongoing cost. You've just got to be prepared for things to break and to be replaced.
I've thought about doing it however, my bike isn't ideal due to the turning circle and also it might be a bit too quick as they check the bikes over.
You informatoin for the 2 stroke is kinda wrong. I mean i have been riding an old honda mtx 125 . 2 stroke . Since 2016 and actually i dont have issues with it.
An rs is much more highly strung then an mtx so it's apples and oranges

What year is your RS 125
I am getting a RS 50 1998 model, is the oil the same as a speed flight 2 as was driving one of them before it broke. also i have been told that you need to mix the oil and fuel in the fuel tank, can any one tell me if this is true or is there a separate tank on the 1998 model. also great video.
The speedfight would most likely use different oil as the RS is geared with a clutch whereas the SF is auto. It depends on the bike as some people remove their 2stroke oil tank so it's best to check. Normally it should all be connected but it's best to ask the previous owner.
i am 16 in a few weeks and looking for bike.... ive taken interest in a 2009 Aprilia SX50, is this a good bike to start with?
Yes they are great bikes. I know a few people that have had them and they're pretty quick! Just keep on top of maintainace and itpll be fine

I’ve got a rs a bit like that but a bit older I can’t seem to get it to start it’s getting fuel and has good spark but just won’t fire up any advise
First thing would be to double check and clean the carb.
Check compression. If everything works and theres no compression the bike will not start and even if it dose start it will die

It should be around 130 kmph/80 mph if it's stock and about 160-190 kmph/100-120 mph if it's tuned and different speed depending on the amount of tuning with the sprockets exhaust and what not.
In Germany we can only drive with 15 Hp with age 16-18 and licence A1 (but all my friends and i drive with 35 Hp;)

fam yeah its bullshit but i got an rs125 and got the restrictor cert and got it removed so im 16 wioth an a1 ridig with 36hp

I bought an RS a wile back and spent so much money , so i now hate 2 strokes,if you derestricted it you can get about 100mPH on a flat road,
Everybike is different. Mine hasn't caused me many issues
What would u suggest to increase the speed or power on the bike? Mine struggles to keep increasing its speed after 60mph before i could go to 90's
The first thing to check would be your compression. Also check that your PowerValve is still working

You can't legally as a1 licence is still upto 11kw, but who's going to know? ;)

Is yours full Power mate? Looks pretty rapid.
It just has a full Arrow system and PV. Other than that it's pretty much standard, atm the engine is being rebuilt as the bottom end has gone.
You guys blow these things up when you're not pulling in the clutch when letting off the gas.. lack of lubrication..

Yes but what about 2 stroke bikes that have an auto lube on the engine where there is a separate 2 stroke oil tank?

@@taliaharrison2034 yes it mixes the oil with the gas for you and is very unreliable and it wont affect engine braking it still wont get lubrication
@@Sumtingg bull shit. i have an oil pump witch inserts the oil in the intake manifold. this way even without giving any gas oil still gets in the cilinder. ofcourse it is better for if you pull the clutch but it isnt as bad as without oil pump

Yeh they are , here were i live ( Colombia ) there's lots of them , you can see Dt125''s. 175's and a few 200's and 200R's. People here just love 2strokes bikes,. I recommend searching Kawasaki Victor m - one of the nicest 2 strokes imo - Excuse my english
So im planning to get used rs125 '01 generation for 1200 euros as my first bike,but all the time im hearing that it often requires fixes and it cant last long,its just killing my wish for buying it but i really like it,what do you think honestly about the problems?
Red the Hero The bike requires more attention than 4 strokes (generally) however, the performance and fun factor is next level. I'd recommend getting one if you're mechanically minded and are happy to work on your bike.
I have not had many major issues with the RS and it has been reliable for me but every bike is differentand it depends on how it's maintained

May be a no on question idk! I am mostly likely gun a buy the newer model of that but with my Gilera DAN 50 there is a separate tank for oil under the seat, would i be the same with other 2 strokes or what? I've never pre mixed sowould have to learn that if so, cheers!
Most 2 strokes have seperate oil tanks so you just need to make sure they're topped up.
Premix is fairly straight forwards todo, you just need to calculate the amount of oil to get the ratio correct.

That was riding to 10k rpm, it could probably go a bit more but there's no point
Do you guys think its worth it to buy a 50cc bike at 16 like the rs 50 or wait until 17. I think the rs 50 would be sick but with a restrictor is it even worth it to go only 30mph? And is it possible to go without one (I know its illegal)? How much does a restrictor cost to fit ?
The Rs 50 is a great bike, if you can afford it I'd go for one then when you're 17 sell it and then upgrade. I've never seen a 'restricted' rs50 so I guess they are very easy to derestrict if you do find one. Without any restrictions my bike could do about 55/60mph tops.

You'd get bored of the speed very quickly. I'd just wait for a 125

Yes it can. I've been using it daily for the last few weeks and it happily sits at 55/60mph around 7k rpm.

you brought the wrong 2 stroke thats y dude tzr nsr 125 i ride for weeks consistently and they where mint only in traffic i would turn her off as temp shot up and riding a 2stroke lean is just plain stupid for the price of the next size jet id say being slightly rich is way more safer just a replacement plug insead of topend .

There cheaper than 4t. If you price up engine work. 2t are really simple, most simple mechanics, can rebuild these with simple tools. Any engine is unreliable if you treat it poorly. I've owed 2t for years from a H1 500 through the rd250 to RS250 with Rxs100 and Gp100 inbetween and guess what all reliable. Some used as daily commuters other for fun. It comes down to the mechanical understanding of the owner. Listen to a lot of riders many can't change a chain without a dealer. I've rebuilt countless engines and seen the damaged caused by idiots who just rag them. Yep engine work comes around sooner on these things. If you get the chance have a look at the internals on a 4t just as bad as many owners just destroy them in kind.

@@ellis7918 I found one on like Swedish equivalent of eBay for like 1050GBP and it looked descent and they told us there was a minor oil leak but it seemed fair. Swapped gearbox oil and found small pieces of metal currently reconstructing the engine looking for expensive issues like swapping piston. Seems to be fine so far maybe just needed to be opened up and cleaned. So definitely price worthy but sacrificing a lot of time

So 4 strokes are more reliable and consume less gas. The sound is better. And yes isn't that faster but it's a 125cc what do you expect.

In Germany the A1 license is the 125cc licence XD. What is it called in England?
A1 licence is for a 125cc. In the UK you can do a 1 day course and ride with L plates
