Hunting Down Books Made With Human Skin

- UCLA librarian Megan Rosenbloom has an interesting side gig: she hunts down books that have been bound with human skin. She helped create the Anthropodermic Book Project to find as many of the ghoulish texts as she can. So far, she’s identified 50 such books. “One of the things that is really creepy about actually holding a human skin book is that they look like any other antique book on the shelf,” she told Inside Edition Digital. #InsideEdition

It’s strange how it was never mentioned that Black skin was preferred as human leather. I guess they just want this to seem creepy and not racist creeps.
Exactly!
I was wondering too!
Can you provide sources for this please? As I watched this, I did wonder. And her book is entitled Dark Archives ... Which can go either way. People of colour definitely encounter that clinical gaze a lot.
Wait but how is that racist. At that point it’s just a color choice. Still creepy tho.
Idk maybe I’m being stupid.
BoomBoom47 because back in those days black people were used as lab rats because it was thought that we didn’t feel pain surgery performed with no anesthesia or medication so using black skin was definitely a thing back then it was sickening

I have chronic illness and spend so much time seeing doctors, and I feel like a lot of them STILL see me this way! I'd say a good 85% of doctors say, "Oh my gosh, you have this rare disease! That is SO COOL!!!" and they have even called an assistant in excitedly to show me to them. And I'm always like, "Yyyyyeah. So as I was saying I'm bedbound and can't really move, and-" and they're like giddily interrupting me to be like, "Wait, so do you have this horrible symptom, too? And this one? Awesome!" Sometimes they'll realize they're being horrible and they'll apologize and try to reign it in, and sometimes they don't. Rarely do they seem to see me as a human being.

Honestly, it’s not that surprising considering traditional parchment (which is usually used in bookbinding since it’s apparently archival) is commonly from sheep’s skin so them “venturing” to using other animals.
Imagine dying and coming back just to realize that someone used your skin for a book cover like I’m suing.
