This is a Great Idea and skills Lost . This man is doing a great service for ones, that don't have a lot of money for a new tire. The Side wall's of these big tires do not have the Pressure that the Tread has. I have a large Tractor Tire with a tear this size, and plan to stitch it with Kevlar, which is about the strongest twine available. I would like to find that Peal and Stick Rubber Roll, but so far haven't found it yet. I have a boot on order and Industrial cement for the inside. Old Tire Repair shop's used to vulcanize with rubber strips, and a heat cap that was lit, which heated the underside. This Man has developed a similar way to vulcanize, by using a crude, but effective under the tire heat. Thanks for good old people that still will work. I'am 80, but still can move about to get things done. Any comments will be apreaciated. Thanks
I have ordered from a supplier called Acme Rubber in the past when doing repairs on tires like this. You should email them and inquire as to whether they'd sell you a smaller quantity. They typically do wholesale, but if you ask nicely, they're willing to ship out smaller amounts for a small fee.
I suggest you think about this. The side wall is what holds up the tire. All the air pressure is looking for the weakest point to get out and that bandaide is where is going to go. It’ll blow like a balloon. Maybe not right away or even a little while. When it fails, it’s going to blow and jolt what ever you’re driving.
After watching the man repair the sidewall on the tire, it all makes sense. The cleaning and prepping throughout the whole process as well as attention to detail on joining surfaces. The using of heat to vulcanize the patch is something I remember as a child.

From what I've heard when there's sidewall damage you throw it away, because it can't be reinforced and it'll blow out again-it's a danger to everyone on the road.
I don't think people who have never worked with a tire can appreciate how strong that man is the way he was moving that tire around. A tire that size probably ways 200-250lbs, easily.
I’m a tire tech. And I think he did a good job. I was more concerned about the safety of that. I know they have a thing where they will weeks tread to larger semi tires?? But this just comes off as dangerous to me.
I watch every one of these that I can. The pride of workmanship, skill and determination to do the job right is something many could learn from. Such craftsmanship is to be commended... Kudos to this man on his hard work ..... and I'm sure it IS demanding. Congratulations on work well done. P.S. Many questions, such as exactly what is the painted-on material, as well as the adhesive-backed material? Im assuming vulcanizing paint and vulcanizing rubber sheeting. It's all very interesting to watch being applied.
Sometimes you have to make a choice between going out of business or performing a makeshift repair on your tools and equipment. Plus I think a side wall repair matters less on low speed off-road vehicles.
Serious question, would the tire being used with tubes matter? I'd imagine low pressure tubes in this type of tire would be normal, but I have no idea.

Really depends on the use case. Tires this large (usually) have notably lower psi requirements. Shit, looking at his repair, it wouldn't surprise me if something inches outside the fix-it site gave out first. I repaired and changed those tires in the late 70; s. I delivered and dropped off 2 that size and one larger earth mover tire. The cost back then just to drop them off was $11,000.00 for the 3. A tire damaged like that would have been tossed out, here in the U.S. This man put some serious time and labor into repairing this tire. Got to commend him and his young laborer for a super repair job. That tire is well worn, but in some countries, you have to make due with what you have. Job well done! Great vulcanization!
I feel like this is satire. You should have started off with the fact that you aren't suppose to do this for sidewall damage, especially that large. You haven't done it in 50 years? That's a long time.
This is a wonderful demonstration of museum restoration of ancient artefacts. That tire probably is stiff and crumbly, but in the hands of an octogenarian it is re-made into a whole new museum piece.
A tire of that size is probably around $5000 usd mounted and balanced. They are super expensive....which is why it's better to pay a man like this a few hundred dollars for a repair instead of the cost of a new tire. Some tires and machines that work in mines go for as much as $50000 per tire. It's insane and a fookin very large tire lol

I don't think people who have never worked with a tire can appreciate how strong that man is the way he was moving that tire around. A tire that size probably ways 200-250lbs, easily.

P.S. Many questions, such as exactly what is the painted-on material, as well as the adhesive-backed material? Im assuming vulcanizing paint and vulcanizing rubber sheeting. It's all very interesting to watch being applied.
The naysayers can't make money off of it so they put it down.
Fixing a sidewall is like no no number 1 in tire repair. Very dangerous
Sometimes you have to make a choice between going out of business or performing a makeshift repair on your tools and equipment. Plus I think a side wall repair matters less on low speed off-road vehicles.
@@dmw870No, it matters, especially with a tire that size. It more than likely goes on a big vehicle that weighs a lot.
You think they give a fuck lol?
@L.kas92 They obviously don't care if someone dies over a rigged band-aid repair.
Serious question, would the tire being used with tubes matter? I'd imagine low pressure tubes in this type of tire would be normal, but I have no idea.
