Awesome, interested to see what you come up with. This is a pre April 2021 production saw, before the new case and updated piston. They removed that whole stupid bridge case stuffer/charge driver. They did eat pistons on the intake side before the updated. I'm a huge fan of the 462 but the updates were needed.

I was wondering why yours ran so well.

@@IndianaDoug Well mine was a first generation too, I'm just real adapted to running saws making timed cuts. And each saw will run different, some will be slugs others will rip. The 462 is not really a longer bar saw.

Hi I’m very interested in the 462, old gen to next gen. Most say it’s capable of up to a 32” bar especially with help..your thoughts..

I’m wondering if the struggle with the 28” bar “might” have been alleviated with a reset of the Mtronic fuel handling function, unless it’s a full manual adjust carb. Maybe let us know? I don’t have any problem pulling a 30” ( yes 30, check out a paper print Oregon catalog) bar with just a generous muffler mod; all from my 372xt. Pulls it ok but won’t do the same with a 32. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

I was given one dissassembled. Trying to find a piston at a reasnable price for one is impossible, even Little Red barn aren't replying to my emails and i know they have a listing for one. I was even considering the 460 top end, but that has 2mm bigger stroke and I don't have access to a lathe. I know Kensie has fiddled with one and looks like it goes okay.

Thanks for the video, I've heard they really lack torque.
Wow, those things look almost like the Husky 562xp cylinder and piston. I was hoping you could swap in a Stihl 461 piston, but they don't look similar.

What? Is that piston not round?

What a strange build, I’ve wanted a 462 since they came out, I wonder how it’ll turn out. I have a ported 044, so I prolly don’t need a 462. I think they would be comparable.

From some dump numbers on another site STIHL didn’t seem interested in low rpm torque on this saw…
