My favorite cancelled coaster is that insane Morgan hyper coaster that Paramount's Great America almost got in the late 1990s with the elevator lift that could have been themed to the Brady Bunch.
As someone who was in management at SFWoA, I can tell you that the hyper coaster was going to be a Morgan. Once SF sold the park, the plans were redeveloped and then went to SF Mexico (Superman el Último Escape). The coaster station was going to start on the Sea World side (I believe where the Shark Encounter was) and the lift and the “out” would run alongside the back of the park where Raging Wolf Bobs was and the turn around would’ve been over Grizzly Run (Intamin Rapids). The “back” was slated to have some “surprises” along the return. The coaster was already paid for and would’ve had some sort of effect I’m sure.
Nice video! If ever you plan to do a part two, why not include the proposed wooden coaster that would've gone to Alton Towers in the mid 2000s. The coaster would dive down into a valley, feature two lift hills and two 200+ ft drops
Was about to comment about this coaster. Would have been incredible and at the time I think the tallest wooden coaster? IIRC it was denied planning permission because the construction would require cutting down too many trees in the valley that it would have crossed
Pretty sure it was a topper, and another issue I heard of was the ground in the ravine being too unstable to build on. It really sucks we didn't get it, I'd trade curtain for Lightning Rod 2 any day.
As weird as this sounds, I'm glad CW got a Vekoma invert instead of a B&M one. One reason why B&M decided to break the 300 foot barrier with Leviathan was because Walter Bolliger felt like making it up to the park for the cancelled invert. If the invert from them was built, we probably wouldn't have Leviathan today.
@@NorCalCoasterMedia from Wikipedia: "In the early planning stages of Leviathan, had Bolliger & Mabillard declined to make a roller coaster over 91.5 metres (300 ft), the park would have gotten another manufacturer to design the roller coaster."
I've always wondered what Schwarzkoph's suspended idea for Busch Gardens Williamsburg would have looked like. Big Bad Wolf was the obvious winner but a Schwarzkoph would have been interesting.
Off the top of my head: Hersheypark’s Turbulence is one that got cancelled after the original announcement. SFFT had a Zierer family coaster that was cancelled and ended up in another park, after sitting in storage. Flight of Fear at King’s Dominion was originally going to close to move to Carowinds, and be built outside with an MTV theme (and on-board audio?) at one point, before Cedar Fair bought the chain. CGA was supposed to get an Arrow Virginia Reel in the 80's, and was prototyped but never went further than that.
I wonder if the Raptor earmarked for Kentucky Kingdom is the one that's going to Silverwood this year. Also, Michigan's Adventure was rumored to be getting a Morgan hyper before Cedar Fair bought that park in 2001
What about the coaster that was supposed to come to Cedar Point with the name of Banshee, having the logo of Steel Force at Dorney Park? And what about the coaster themed to “Monsters, Inc” that was rumored to come to Disney Hollywood Studios (themed to the doors section - that would have been a great suspended coaster)!
The Skyplex Polercoaster in Orlando, the planned flying coaster for Tripsdrill Germany, the Vekoma Tilt coaster for Energylandia (might still get built 🤔), the Stratosphere Tower fish hook coaster
I know that WNY Coasters would say no to & by not seeing a B&M Inverted coaster to my home park Canada's Wonderland anytime soon, but i know my opinion would make sense that i hope if Flight Deck & Time Warp removes in the next 5-10 years from now, that's my hope to see a B&M inverted at my home park
Great video! I heard the B&M invert for Canada’s Wonderland was supposed to be similar to flight deck at CGA and be located where Psyclone and Sledge Hammer stand today.
Not sure if you knew but SFMM was actually planned to get an Intamin Prefab. There was a ride layout made so the project was pretty far along, but when the stock crash occurred in 2008-09, the ride was canceled.
It's too bad Paramount didn't go with Giovanola, known for Anaconda at Gold Reef City as far as inverts go, to build Top Gun. THAT would have made for a good ride (and I've heard from people who have ridden Anaconda that it's better than B&M inverts with similar stats. Thinking what could have been (and would likely be better than Youkon Striker) depresses me knowing that we got stuck with an SLC)
I was actually going to mention the cancelled GCI at Morey's Piers if you didn't talk about it in the video. I remember seeing that thing years before I became an enthusiast and it looked amazing! Loved the suspension bridge and it would've been entertaining to watch as you walked down the boardwalk. Shame that it was never built, but the retrack on The Great Nor'Easter was definitely needed making it the smoothest SLC ever! I heard they also put new trains with vest restraints on Sea Serpent :)
