His mother is exactly like my ex mil. She would interfere in every aspect of his life. It became so bad we separated and would get back together. She would have a fit and reach out to his relatives trying to separate us again and he couldn’t handle the pressure she would put on him. He would leave again until I finally said I’m done. I had to go as far as blocking him. A few months later the police show up at my home to give me the news my husband committed suicide. My mother-in-law then had the audacity to tell the police that she was his next of kin and lied to the police officer. I never understood why she had to have him under her thumb and be her puppet. I always thought every parent should want their children happy and not miserable.

The reason it didn’t work is because of her lack of patience… I married a mamas boy and made him mine in 9 months… women think that they are entitled to a man because of being romantically involved but a woman who gave birth to him feels like she has more of a right. This was my life for 4 years i married a man that had a mom that was obsessed with him, lived in our house, and tried everything to ruin our marriage (she would literally get jealous whenever we spent time together), finally i gave him an ultimatium and said either we move out or she moves out….he told me his mom wouldn’t go anywhere and that i could leave. So i packed my bags and never looked back. We divorced and it was the best decision i ever made in my life

His mom wouldn’t love any girl no matter how perfect she was or could be for her son. She has an unhealthy attachment to her son. I think she’s scared to lose him, and is making any excuse to hate Emily. His mom needs therapy because there’s issues there that go deeper than what she is presenting on the surface. I am a mother myself and as sad as I am about letting my child go, I know that I must and I would never interfere and get in the way of them being happy.

This was me and my mum when I turned 20 I left. She'd be obsessed with me not wanting me to leave and using emotional manipulation throughout all my life. If I fail in something it may hurt her that's what she used to say. It took me years to finally break free and after some anxiety attacks and ER visits I now can say I don't give up shiiii about her and I'm happily married with a man who also left his toxic family behind.

Coming from a culture of arranged marriages, this is one of the glaring problems with being fixed to marry an incompatible or indifferent person.
Lots of women like these sadly. Husband doesn't care/is indifferent/ doesn't show affection. The wife who has so much love & attention to give channels it to the nearest man she can get which is almost always her son & gets threatened by what she perceives as competitors. A tale as old as time.
Keep an eye open if the guy is an only son or only child. In most cases you'll be fighting & competing with his mother.

Yes, cultures where arranged marriages are prevalent will have some, or many, women, that if their specific husbands are indifferent, they may throw all of their attention & affections toward their children, especially their sons.
But Laila is disgusting & sick mentally in a way that seems beyond neglect from a husband from an arranged marriage. She comes across as a Queen Jezebel who even if she has had a doting husband who adores her to the point of not caring about his own needs being met, it still will not be enough for her.
I do not know what her childhood trauma looks like. Whether she was overly indulged or overly neglected or a combination of the two. Or if she learned to behave in this deplorable manner from her own mother/father/grandparents/guardians,etc.---
But wherever her level of mental & emotional unwellness stems from, that causes her to constantly feel a need to assert herself in a way that violates her son's autonomy, disrespect his significant other & comes across as beyond just emotional incest, she needs therapy.
But unfortunately, people like her rarely get the help they need. They tend to be in denial that they are even the problem at all. Those they gradually destroy over time are the ones that tend to seek counseling/coaching to heal from the trauma, before they ever do.
She comes across as an OVERT, Malignant Narcissist who has NPD.
Laila is happiest when she feels like she is being worshipped, adored & obeyed by those she chooses to indulge her. Anything less than what she deems as optimal praise of her is met with child-like tantrums & emotional manipulation. Whether Shekeb marries Emily or not, he needs to cut the invisible umbilical chord & break free from the trauma bonding with Laila.
Laila is too parasitic & will only bring more harm than good at this point. Whether he is single or not, he needs to break free from her for HIMSELF FIRST, before he can truly be in a healthy romantic relationship. Shekeb MUST learn to set boundaries with his selfish mother. And Emily may have to prepare to let go of him if he is unable to do this in a CONSISTENTLY. It will not be easy for Laila's toxic fangs & talons are deeply sunken into him. He may have to love his mother from afar & avoid her altogether.
