Wrong install. Go in the small hole and out the large hole on the spool then back in the large hole and wedge the little metal "puck" flat end against the spool in that loop. Make sure rope comes out under the spool like he has done otherwise the brake won't work. Also manually turn spool at least one layer of rope keeping it together to prevent the rope from becoming wedged into the underlayment of line creating a tangle. This is done easier by removing the winch and partially bringing it out to the side to gain better access, which entails removing more cowling.

How did you get the cable bumped back? Punch?

Did this hold up alright so far?

It’s held up very well. I actually finally broke while plowing with it so it’s not due to the rope weakness but due to wearing on the metal of my plow. One advantage to synthetic rope is that even if it breaks you can quickly tie a knot in the rope and continue to winch yourself out (and I actually ran the remainder of the winter with the rope tied together until I replaced it). Finally one downside to synthetic ropes is winter. If you get the rope really wet it easily can freeze solid so beware when getting the rope wet, ensure you can let it “dry out” before freezing all rolled up.
