Next from this album should be one of these:

Note: 2nd vocalist was Steve Walsh, our host thought it might have been Kerry Livgren--Kerry jokes he can't sing, occasionally, he does background vocals, never lead vocals. Kerry's gift is songwriting, first and foremost. Kerry has stated that Gentle Giant(another great prog rock artist) is an influence/favorite artist of his

I hear yah. Sadly, our country was built on blood. But the reality is, a lot of countries were built that way. We don't ask where the gold comes from to line our stairways. And now people REALLY know. And we don't know how to grapple with the truth. Sadly that's the way of the world. Blood, blood, and more blood

Few rock band could ever match the vocal harmonies in Kansas. Its as though Steve and Robbie were born to sing together. The vocal outro on this track is beyond amazing.

The middle section of this one draws upon early cinema depictions of the pony express, cowboys & indians images. Awesome track, musically and lyrically... the pleading of "Lord let me stay" with "in the ground our bodies lay. Here we'll stay" is just chilling.
No album has captured such challenging musicianship in true progressive flavor while at the same time being genuinely accessible, the way Leftoverture does. It is a masterpiece.
An interesting side note: Both Cheyenne Anthem and Genesis' One For The Vine have similar themes of fight for survival and both make a total departure to represent the battle. Neither drew from the other as they were both released in Fall of 1976 but I've always seen them as kindred songs and I love them both.

Thanks for your thoughtful reaction to this deep cut. _Kansas_ has an entire Universe of great songs that no one (besides true fans) has heard before. Sure everyone knows the 2 great tunes they released on singles --- *_Carry on Wayward Son_* and *_Dust in the Wind_* but there are many other tremendously inventive and progressive songs. Try the following 11 on for size when you get a chance (listed in order of release) --- and there are many other's --- most of their great material appeared on their first 5 albums released between 1974 and 1977:
    01. Belexes
    02. Child of Innocence
    03. Icarus: Borne on Wings of Steel
    04. The Wall
    05. What's on my Mind
    06. Miracles out of Nowhere
    07. The Spider / Portrait (He Knew) --- _listen to these consecutively as one song._
    08. Closet Chronicles
    09. Sparks of the Tempest
    10. Nobody's Home
    11. Hopelessly Human

Walsh was born in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri. Steinhardt was born in Chicago and grew up in Lawrence, Kansas. His father was in the music history department at the University of Kansas. Ehart was born in Coffeyville near the Kansas-Oklahoma border. His father was in the Air Force, so he lived in several places growing up.

I think the only exceptions were Robert Lamm, who was born in Brooklyn but moved to Chicago when he was a teenager, and James Pankow, who was born in St. Louis, but went to college in Quincy, Illinois. Most of the members of Boston (Delp, Goudreau, Hashian, Sheehan) were from the Boston area, with the exception of Tom Scholz, who was originally from Toledo, Ohio, but went to MIT.
