    Matt, doing electrical is just creating a useful path for those over priced electrons from the power company!
    You did good on the room for lighting.

    It's amazing how Matt manages to figure out how to fix the fubar work done in the past.
    Obviously the guy who built the Castle/Lighthouse considered safety last a good motto.

    Every episode of the Castle/Lighthouse restoration is absolutely entertaining.

      Excellent idea Larry.
      Today multiple outlets are necessary to charge all the electronics we now rely on.
      If 2 individuals are sleeping in that room your talking 2 phones, tablets and/or laptops.
      One outlet won't be enough evening it's one individual sleeping in it.

  • @PBandJDIY
    @PBandJDIY Месяц назад +1

    I know it's more work.
    The chandelier should be centered on beam and on its own switch.
    Add 3 more "mood lights" to go around the room off the switch you just put in.
    And everybody needs outlets to charge electronics and such.
    What I have done in the past is screw a 2X4 to the wall, get some 1X4 pine, box it in, run your power up through the floor in the cavity. HIt it with a blowtorch and seal with oil Varathane, NOT the new water based clear coat!!!!! The old Varathane brings out the yellow and natural grain to look like it belongs in a castle. And, those outdoor lights are >$20 if you want to keep the same style.

      @nyamillennial yes. I like to shake some silica sand on steps while it's wet, so you get good grip on final coat. I think they make a special product for floors and steps. Good luck and good job!

    I have commented before about the electrical work being done is concerning to me. You've stated before this project was "grandfathered in". I assume that to mean the building inspector decided you did not have to bring the existing building up to code. However, new work does have to be up to code in any area with an adopted electrical code. I am not going to point out everything I see and how you should do each thing you are doing. I still believe you need a licensed electrician looking at your work at the least. Me criticizing what I see every day takes away any enjoyment I get watching your videos. Good luck with your project.

      @@nyamillennial Hey Matt, thanks for your response. I like to watch these type of tough remodel projects like yours because I have been through practically anything you may encounter. Let me explain a little more about what I mean. Until a few years ago, I owned my contracting company which I sold my company due to health reasons. I am a licensed Master Electrician, a Master's License for Plumbing and Gas, a State Licensed HVAC contractor and a State Board of Contractors Remodeler. I watch your show to see how you deal with issues but I don't like to read a lot of criticism in the comments because I know how hard it is. I have tried not to be too critical but yet offer a mild suggestion as to what I see. I really don't want to advise people directly online what they should do unless I can actually see a job and take it in as a whole. Over the years I have done many homes built in the early 1900's and they have their challenges. My specialty, as far as remodels, was antebellum homes. These were homes built before the Civil War that new couples with the income to afford the upgrades necessary for modern life bought from the older families. The catch was while we updated these homes it had to be done so they would not lose their standing on the National Historic Registry and keep them on historical tours. One of those that reminds me of your project was a Greek Revival style home built in the 1850's. This was in 1992. The house was two floors with 15' ceilings on both floors. It was built with solid brick with plaster covering. The walls were 18" thick solid brick around the exterior walls and two walls forming the parlor on each floor with the grand stairway. There were some framed walls dividing some of the rooms. Solid walls present a lot of challenges for upgrading utilities and comfort items. So I don't mean to be critical so please don't take it as such. Good luck with your project and I'll continue to enjoy.
