    “The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank thee that I am not like other men, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for every one who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.” -Luke 18:11-14

    • @Vanhyo
      @Vanhyo 10 дней назад

      The prayer is: Lord Jesus Christ who excused the tax collector more than the pharisee, do not enter into judgment with us, because before you no one will be excused.
      Unfortunately after the fall of the papacy from the church, this "cutting off" is also manifest in their saints in forms of malicious rigidity, virtue signaling and false idea of self-holyness. If you think this is what holiness is, try spending an eternity together with such person.

    A beautiful homily written by a holy and saintly priest. My only "complaint": the AI voice is grating and distracting. Could they not have found a human to read it?

    Psalm 139:23-24
    Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!
    Luke 5:31-32
    31 Jesus answered and said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
    Always ask the Holy Spirit for guidance and teach you how to pray.. he would show us if we are leaving people out of our prayers and if our ways don't align with our Lord.. always ask for our Heavenly Father's wisdom, guidance and strength.. All glory, honor, and praise be to God! May He bless us all!

    Wasn't st. Augustin a terrible sinner until his mother's prayers turned him around ?

    • @rickruggiero2403
      @rickruggiero2403 14 дней назад +6

      Yes but the difference is that St. Monica did not agree with what St Augustine was doing. She didn't condone his behavior. St. John Vianney is talking about parents that are condoning their children's bad behavior, for all the wrong reasons.

    The supposed religious leaders are to praise the Lord not insult God and ridicule the followers of Jesus teaching as in the Gospels. Now we are in the Holy Week to celebrate our Saviour not insult our God.

      Sounds like you are learning some hard lessons from people who have been around the heavenly BLOCK.
      Pray, do good works obey the many Bible commands [understanding only Our Savoir was perfect], and become Catholic if not already.
      The evil satan celebrates despair and drives good people to it.

      You become holy in the struggle. That thought is not from the Holy Spirit. No one deserves heaven except the Blessed Mother. Start praising God when you wake up. Be grateful for everything you have been given. That is part of your problem. Pride of Self. You can talk, walk, breath, smell, touch and so on. Imagine if you couldnt do any of those things. You are thinking like the world, BAD. You should pray from your heart at least one hour everyday. Start with 5 decades of the rosary. Imagine the passion and having your skin ripped off your body and hanging like rags from your back. You have too much, that is why you are ungrateful. Pray to the holy spirit for humility everyday till you die.

      Do NOT give up. That is a temptation from the evil one. Instead each day, when you wake up, say, "Good Morning Jesus", pray the three special Hail Mary's once in the morning and before bed. Just try to love your neighbor. For example, if someone cuts you off while you're driving, ask Our Lord to bless them and watch over them. Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Rosary each day. You will wake up one morning to find yourself amazed at how you are changing and growing in holiness. It's all about small steps. As long as you are sincerely trying, even if you fail and fall flat on your face, God is pleased with your effort. Do what you can and God will do the rest! Remember all we can do is try. The truth is, God is the one who does most of the work. Again, NEVER give up ! May God Bless you richly and abundantly and hold you warm in His Embrace!

      I guess its clear that if the speech leads you to thinking about leaving Jesus you should rather not think about it so much. To be understood well: I have similar feelings as you do. Every joy is bad, everything except of praying or fasting is a sin... So God gave us our lives only to hurt ourselves? And we should be thankfull for that? I have very bad feelings from those sooooo perfect saints... It really demotivates horribly. Only hurting ourselves (but only the saint one) is OK, every pleasure is a sin, but we call that "happy message." Isn´t it strange?
      I think you should keep your faith and praying and not listen to the old saints so much. Different times, different circumstances... The fruit of our belief should be love and not fear.

      Hi Crispin - thanks for replying. John Vianney has a tremendous following. This sermon just seemed to me to be full of condemnation. I did not feel that there was any sense of the love which flows through Christianity. I am sure that those prayerful people Vianney mentions did not intend their prayers to be insulting. I confess however to not have listened to this sermon carefully. I never thought anyone would reply!

    Wow, I had no idea. John Vianney was so extreme. Fascinating that he a great promoter of the rosary, an instrument of mercy, and then would give a sermon like this. So devoid of sympathy or humility, I guess he thinks all pleasure is indecency.

      I had similar feelings. Maybe it was influenced by the specific time, the specific people... But sometimes it seems to me its better not to listen to the saints to keep motivation. Because sometimes it seems some words directly tell us "it does not worth even trying, give up." Not to speak about the real possibilities of the current times to keep our dear ones from some bad influences. How should we do that? Pick one and physically prevent their going to the worldly joys (till the police arrests us)? Could those saints give us an advice on that?

      Such a bigot ! For all his unworldliness, he was quite a man of his time. What were his views about Christ turning water into wine for the enjoyment of the guests at Cana ? But maybe his bigotry was a match for the hypocrisy of his flock.
