toxic love actually,he treats his girl bad and she still loves him.He trieds to be better for her but can't control himself so he probably goes crazy over trying to push himself to be better.and he says he wants to cry because maybe she left him after there was a last straw,or he realized what he did to her and he can't change it
@@dante_7143 "he treats his girl badly", the lyrics speak of failing someone, it is much deeper, it can be your partner, parents, something spiritual. one always tries to be a better person is the essence of human virtue. and we can all relate to it ..
@@stranger7379 Well I think he just mean that the way their voices come together is heavenly, but yeah, Brian Wilson was the best at using that skill at its full potential.
If I had been working at Capitol Records in marketing in 1966 I would've seriously advocated putting out "Pet Sounds" in three separate releases (with better covers, of course): the standard version, the acapella version, and the instrumental version. This cut is an amazing example of why this is one of the greatest albums ever. With just vocals, it's awesome. With just instruments, it's awesome. And the whole package? Forget about it!
@Pixie Looks just like a publicly photo that they slapped on the cover. The artistry that went into the record should’ve been enhanced by a more thoughtful design.
I feel you but It wouldn’t work. How would you have acappella vocal versions of tracks like let’s go away for awhile and pets sounds? There no main vocal track. they’d just be moments of silence in between the album.😂😂😂
@Pixie That’s true now that I think about the time frame. Sgt. Pepper was really the first real piece of spectacular and thoughtful album cover art. That was in ‘67.
astounding! hearing this shows that Brian Wilson was right when he said the Beach Boys should focus on their vocals and leave the instrumental parts to others. wow just wow
Absolutely GORGEOUS! Listening to Pet Sounds with just the singing and no instruments is a whole new experience! You get to hear just how incredible the harmonies were on some tracks such as this one.
You can tell they listened to the Four Freshmen, with their great four-part harmonies. I just love the way they have vocal sections, counterpart duets. They are the best. Listen to them do "Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring".
I know perfectly well I'm not where I should be I've been very aware You've been patient with me Every time we break up You bring back your love to me And after all I've done to you How can it be I try hard to be more What you want me to be But I can't help how I act When you're not here with me I try hard to be strong But sometimes I fail myself And after all I've promised you So faithfully I want to cry...
The harmonies on this album are absolutely incredible. No one tops The Beach Boys in regards to harmony, in my opinion (and I'm obsessed with The Beatles!). But besides these incredible harmonies which are a wonderful treat on their own, Brian orchestrated such unique and beautiful instrumental tracks for each and every song on this album. This is my favorite album of all time, and when it really clicked with me, it took up a permanent spot in my heart.
I’m with you, that is the essence of love and life, where did go wrong, please somebody tell me, I just don’t understand human beings anymore, I’m at a total lost. My inner feelings are so Alive right now, it’s a great vibration because I still believe in every one of us and , yes, I want to cry yesterday…
This is part of a box set that he put out in the 90s I had it you can still find it but you can get a new italic print and it’s a lot of money now it’s four CDs and one whole CD has every single song just a cappella another CD has all the cuts and the outtakes. Another CD has the entire album full and another CD has just.
Comparison with the Beatles is soooo ridiculous. Two entirely different genres, each with its own values. Was Bach better thn Beethoven? No, each ahd their own views of Heaven
Imagine if Brian Wilson had the Talent McCartney had to workwith. Lennon, one of the best lyricists AND songwriters ever, George Harrison another amazing guitar player and songwriter, and George Martin one of the best Producers ever. Instead he was stuck with his family and alan Jardine. Carl and Dennis were very talented musicians, but lets be real, they were nowhere nearly as prodigious as Lennon or even Harrison.
I'd disagree with you actually. Basically every Beach Boy had an amazing voice (except Mike). Dennis may have looked a little funny on the drums, but man did he ever get a great sound out of his kit. You're right about George Martin and The Beatles being better guitarists though. Brian Wilson was an amazing producer, but George was legendary.
@@utub1473 Well... It's not about "having amazing voices", "getting a great sound out of the drums", "being an amazing producer", as if The Beatles were just the mere adding of the (five) parts. BEING a Beatle, in The Beatles, in Abbey Road composing and creating on and off the studio was something different. It can't be measured in terms of other bands producing records. Now people try to make everything more "objective", more mathematical, but that wasn't the vibe in the 60's at all. New and not-so-knew bands visited them as you go to church. Brian Wilson, as much as his masterpiece Pet Sounds influenced McCartney in 1966, knew that better than anyone...

@@dante_7143there's definitely a strong feeling of not deserving the other person in here
the theme of toxic love is seen previously in the song "She Knows Me Too Well" on Today! (which is commonly considered the best pre-pet sounds album).
The Beach Boys are much more than just a surf rock group, they are the godamn kings of harmony
Brian Wilson particularly.
@@stranger7379 Well I think he just mean that the way their voices come together is heavenly, but yeah, Brian Wilson was the best at using that skill at its full potential.
the vocal harmonies in this song are the best in all of pet sounds songs

Brian did the right thing staying in the studio
it is almost unbelievable how one man could put this together
Who in the hell searched for this, listened and then gave it a dislike?
Someone who’s jealous that they’ll never be able to create something this amazing and beautiful
Mike Love.
Love how the echo sounds on Brians voice
The way the harmonies from 1:58 fit together is unbelievable. Only just realised the more quieter melodies and how they "fluctuate"
McCartney referred to this part as "multicoloured harmonies".
It's absolutely heavenly. The quieter melodies are my favorite part of the song. It feels like they do something to my brain, something really good!

No vocal arrangements more sublime have ever been written or performed.

For my own purposes, as well as the well being of all others
This is my favorite song on Pet Sounds other than the obvious ones and I Just Wasn’t Made For These Times and I’m Waiting for the Day
Genius
Always a favorite, but to hear this version is sublime! I wish we could get an entire pet sounds acapella album
It’s out there, just google!
still gives me chills being 20 years old music has saved my life

I've been very aware
You've been patient with me
Every time we break up
You bring back your love to me
And after all I've done to you
How can it be
I try hard to be more
What you want me to be
But I can't help how I act
When you're not here with me
I try hard to be strong
But sometimes I fail myself
And after all I've promised you
So faithfully
I want to cry...

You mean California in the 60s, California today be more like Brian Wilson in the late 70s
