- Quick clean tones through a Fano MG6 Oltre loaded with Lollar Firebird pickups and a Gotoh 510T 6-screw tremolo. Plugged straight into a 3rd Power Kitchen Sink 6VEL amp head and 3rd Power Dream 112 cab. Clean channel on Blackface voicing.

Just subscribed. Love your playing style. Only problem is you’re making every guitar you play sound great, which adds to my growing list if 6 stringers I’d love to buy, yet can’t afford 🤔 😏.
At the top of my wish list are the Fano PX6, Fano MX6 and a Novo Serus J. I especially love how the clean tones in each guitar offers a rich and full sound without being muddy, or distinguishable sounding like a Strat for example. I dig the aesthetics of each guitar as well as the P90s overdriven tone in each. The Yamaha Revstar is great as well, though seems to lack the same fullness in tone.
Since you seem to have played quite a few different guitars and appear to know your stuff, I was wondering which of these 3 guitars you’d personally buy if you could only have one and were interested in playing a wide range of music styles (ex: blues, indie & garage rock, heavier rock, melodic ambient, fingerpicking, slide).
Some bands/artists whose guitar tones I love include: Kurt Vile, Pink Floyd (ie Animals), Pear Jam (ie VS), Soundgarden (ie Superunknown), Radiohead, Mars Volta, Kings Of Leon, Led Zeppelin).
I realize no single guitar can achieve every guitar tone, though was just curious which sort of guitar could get the closest. Any suggestions would be be very helpful and appreciated. Thank you.🙏
Thanks for following us! Both the Fano and the Novo guitars start with something very important: a good piece of wood for the body. That's one place most import guitars just aren't going to be able to match a good custom-built guitar like a US-made Fano or Novo. With the Fano, the most common option is an Alder body and this is going to be old-growth North American alder. It will have a lower moisture content than the faster growth alder used in cheaper import (or even US production line) guitars. That will make it more resonant, and it will also tend to make it lighter in weight. The same is true if you choose a different body wood for a Fano; they will use higher-quality older growth wood that will have nicer sonic properties than production line guitars.
P-90s can be very expressive pickups that capture the nuances of your playing and translate well into different genres. If you go with P-90s, I personally like the sound of a Lollar underwound P-90 in the neck and a Lollar traditional P-90 in the bridge. If you want something more Strat-like, the Lollar Alnico Pole P-90 is superb in the neck as well.
Another combination you might consider is mixing a Firebird pickup and a P-90 pickup. That gives you a lot of tonal options in one guitar. Feel free to reach out to us via the contact information on our website. We'd be happy to help you further.

Trying to decide between these, mini humbuckers, minibroilers, and gold foils on my Serus J. Very tough to decide but damn these sound beautiful
We are also a Novo dealer now, so feel free to reach out and we can work you a little discount! The Broilers are quite bright. They do a cool thing, but I wouldn't consider them as versatile as some of the other options. We do have a video of a Fano RB6 with broilers. The Firebird can be equated to a Strat-on-steroids in the neck position and a bit of a louder Tele thing in bridge position. One of our favorite combinations is a Firebird in the neck and a mini humbucker in the bridge. The mini humbucker is a little beefier than than the Firebird, but with less midrange than a full size humbucker. Goldfoils are cool but my personal experience is that they sound better clean than with dirt. The ones I've played have gotten a little hairy with overdrives or a dirty amp.
Right on, thanks for the response. I’m looking for something a bit jangly to play stuff like Smiths, Joy Division, REM, Cure, etc. I currently have the stock Fralin P90s in my Novo and they’re just way too mid-focused and aggressive for my particular style of playing. I’m typically a Jazzmaster/Jaguar/Strat kind of player.
@@whwh7339 The Firebirds would work very well for you then. And if you wanted a little more oomph in your bridge position then the pairing with the mini-humbucker bridge is the way to go. Just order the pickups with soapbar rings and you should have a pretty easy installation in place of your P-90s.
Will a firebird pickup be a direct drop in a pickguard with p90 routing?
You can get a Firebird in a soapbar P-90 housing, like on a Les Paul Deluxe with mini humbuckers. That would fit the pickguard cutout for a P-90. The only difference then would be the location of the mounting screws... the screws on a standard P-90 go into the guitar body a little more in the center, while the screws on the soapbar housing for a Firebird or mini humbucker will be further towards the outside. So the screws would land a different place in the pickup cavity. If the cavity is not flat on the bottom, you may need to add something inside to accommodate the new screw locations.
@@GuitarsToBePlayed There are also slight variations in size. I believe the Lollar Firebirds are ever so slightly larger that a vintage Gibson Firebird size. I've read forums where folks were upset that they had to squeeze brand A or B into the existing cutouts in their guitar, or make the hole bigger. The Lollar website mentions buying the Lollar mounting ring if you want to put them in a p90 rout.

@@GuitarsToBePlayed I hear ya. I was just pointing out that if you were to use a stock Les Paul Deluxe p90/mini hum mounting ring for example it may not fit a Lollar Firebird. You may have to buy THEIR mounting ring.
