  • Chris from Maple Street Guitars introduces a unique Collings I 35. Instead of the traditional Humbuckers, this guitar was equipped with Lollar Firebird pickups that offer a very different tone combination.

Love the I-35's and this one is Beautiful! I've got a blond with the Throbak SLE101 humbuckers. It was interesting to hear a distinctive and different sound with the Firebirds.

That is silly cool and sounds great. Been digging Robben Ford mini’s on a Riviera and I bet these are a nice compliment to the 35.

The Riviera has mini humbucker pickups. These are Firebird pickups. Aside from size they are completely different

@@jwblanton I don't get it. What do you mean?

@@jwblanton While this is a year old comment, I wanted to explain for anyone seeing this in the future. Mini humbuckers use the traditional humbucker magnet+slug construction with 6 slugs in each of 2 coils, while firebird pickups have 2 magnets, each inside one of the 2 coils, like hot rails/railbuckers. It results in a very different magnetic field shape. It's sort of like comparing a strat pickup to a P90--one has the magnets under the coil with metal guiding it up to the strings, and one has the magnets aimed directly at the strings.
