  • This video is intended for the novice DIY mechanic. Thus, we don't go over how to take the plastic pipes apart in the video and focus more on how to use the tool. Basic steps to take the pipes apart are remembering to: take a picture & the righty tight-y/lefty loose-y principle. There are a number of other videos on RUclips which will go over the things I haven't covered here. Either way, one should review other videos before executing one's own project. Best of luck on your work and thank you for watching! Comments & questions are appreciated and will be entertained.

    THANK YOU SO MUCH. I COULD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO SNAKE THE DRAIN. I TRIED AND TRIED OVER AND OVER. THEN I WATCHED YOUR VIDEO. AND WITH CONFIDENCE WENT OVER AND TRIED AGAIN USING YOUR TECHNIQUE. AND WAM BAM IT WORKED. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY TO BE ABLE TO WASH DISHES IN THE SINK. THANKS AGAIN AND GOD BLESS YOU

    I'm 68 now and in my whole life I have NEVER had any kind drain clearing additive EVER work But I have had it make the problem worse. You MUST take the drain apart and clean it manually form my experience. Sometimes its just a clogged goose neck but in most cases its the drain line behind it so you need the snake to clear it.

    Excellent video. The snake was not my friend. But after your video I now have a clear running drain. Thank you.

    Looking into investing in a tool like this for my home. I like how you mentioned at the end of those awful nylon washer-type jokes that come with the pipe fittings. I always wondered why not a tough rubber type washer and now you've answered my question. I'll go looking into those washers too for my drain kit. Thanks again for this video, sir.

    Thanks so much! This is the problem that I needed a how-to Video to learn from. Great and helpful details throughout. My addition would be to use a face mask, and disinfect with Lysol spray before and after.

    I used a 24 foot manual snake from home depot but had no luck unclogging the kitchen sink. Do you suggest renting a 50 foot snake and what diameter? I also have leaking at the joints after snaking...what washers do you recommend?

    My problems were, firstly that this has happened before during extreme cold because the kitchen drainpipe descends down behind my downstairs neighbour's wall which is poorly insulated due to a design flaw in the townhome complex I live in. Secondly, the access available to me after I had easily dismantled the pipes connected to the sinks was facing down curving into a 4" pipe connected into a T heading up and down. So when I put the wire in and spun it so that it would go through, I had no idea whether it was going up or down. I found no indications of any interference the first few times- and I still have no idea where that pipe goes, because my upstairs bath tub & sink are unaffected- but eventually I pulled out some hair and a fair amount of acid from the bottle I'd poured down the day before, so I knew it was heading the right way. I put the wire in all the way, having to attach the drill several times to penetrate what I hoped was the interference. But after pulling out and reattaching the pipes, I found that it was still blocked, after having poured vinegar and backing soda down the drain. So now I'm worried that the plumber will have to tear my neighbour's wall out to access the problem, but am hoping warmer weather tomorrow will melt some ice in the pipe, which could be 10 metres down...

      So Carena, did you go buy the BrassCraft Drum Auger and “give it a go?” I think I’m going to buy one and do the left side of my slow kitchen sink. I’m sure it’s probably exactly what a plumber would do if I called him out:)

    Do you need to shut off the water valves under the sink or just have the water turned off?

    • @kash829
      @kash829 2 года назад

      There would be no need to shut the water off from valves. The discharge pipe for the water is being worked on.
