Great start. If i may suggest only solder on the outside of rail as the inside of the rail is used by the flange of the wheel. Love you cat as well. Keep up the good work.

Soldering on the outside of the rail will have solder on the inside because of the fact that the solder will travel but the solder will be at a minimum. If you do it right!!!

00:33...You can always hide your cat under a mountain in the corner. Make sure top is easily removable! 🤣 Walthers has done a good job, eliminating a hinge joint on their switches. MUCH better reliability.

Great to have you back, I did wonder what happened...
It is such a temptation to throw heaps of money into the hobby and then curse yourself later for not planning.
Something you may want to consider. With that 3 bay shed, how about having a disused line coming out of it? You could go to town having a really rusty track, overgrown with weeds.

Great video and glad to see you're back! I'm really digging the new layout and that's what I decided on too! The more I thought whether I wanted it narrow or not. After contemplating it over and over I went with it being 2' wide as well. I really wanted a Switching layout even though I've obtained MASSIVE amount of rolling stock and 14 locomotives! I think I became an impulsive buyer. But oh well, I can change these pieces around when I get tired of them! CONGRATULATIONS on over 11k subscribers too! Cheers from Laurel, Delaware USA

    Hello Sir,
I know I've been watching your videos since the beginning almost 5yrs now, but it finally hit me what just happened. You never gave your last layout #3 a chance to live and breathe. One minute I'm looking at the future of a great new layout and then you turn around and it's gone. I'll still support you and follow your teaching skills but I don't understand what happened. I wish you the best on layout #4. I just want you to know that I don't mean any disrespect to you and your craftsmanship. All I want to do is to be a better modeler than I was in the beginning and enjoy the hobby for what it's worth before it's time for me to go.
    Thank you for your time
    Sincerely
    Allan

I get all of my "crap" paint from the "big box" store. They usually have a discount table where paint that was mis-tented and returned are. I have 3 gallons of dark paint at a cost of only about $30 for all of it. They will even re-tint it for me and I usually have them darken it a lot. I've never worried about "DCC friendly" turnouts as I have the "come alive" chip in all of my engines. So there will be no problems using the less expensive switches. I'd love to use the snap switches but I don't want to spend the money on them.I always use acid flux when soldering. The solder will flow better and hold better. After things cool down I wipe the joints with alcohol on an old tooth brush. Gets all of the acid off. The wood dowel is new to me. I like it. I don't like the unpainted look when you tape over the points of the track. Try cans of food to weigh the track down. Place them on their sides and the track will keep them from rolling away. Soup works great. I also have some bricks. just cover them with an old piece of fabric to soften them a bit. They work great for the turnouts. I use a lot of the "T" pins to hold track in place while the glue dries. Looks like a good track plan so far.
