Love seeing the excitement for Bruce Hornsby - he wrote this song. Simple. Direct. Real musicians.

This came out in 1986 when Tupac and myself were 15. It was on the radio constantly. This is the original and Bruce wrote the song.

Tupac was brilliant to sample this and Bruce Hornsby had the foresight to know Tupac will create something amazing out of it. Both Changes & The Way it Is have such powerful messages.

Tupac sampled it but Bruce wrote it. This was released back in 1986.

Real artists don’t steal from Hip Hop, it’s always the other way around.

Bruce had a stint as Sheena Easton's keyboard player at one time. The Way It Is came out in September 1986, Tupac's Changes was recorded in 1992 before being remixed and released as a single from Shakur's Greatest Hits compilation on October 13, 1998.

I did not know that as I live on the outskirts of Glasgow. Sheena has a bizarre Scottish/American twang anytime I've head her speak.

@@akonzipzippytv That’s right! Most of the BIGGEST RnB and Rap hits were recycled, resampled mainstream hits from the past. And it’s a good thing too, otherwise these gems would be lost to a newer generation.
Rule of thumb: next time you come across a Rap hit, google “where was it sampled from” - it almost always is.
Here are some examples: ruclips.net/video/4d4-VvWPbFk/видео.htmlsi=XhGN0HEBR4-w_rEp The last one will shock you!
      Check the originals out! 👍🏻

Bruce would of had to give Tupac permission ,,,,So Bruce would have gotten the writing credit

Bruce Hornsby wrote this song. Tupac just took the finished song and made a rap version out of it...

Tupac sampled it , Bruce Hornsby is the writer and musician sampled of which most hip-hop fans certainly aren't aware of . Most think it was written by Tupac This why your exploration of music is important to make people aware and shine the light on these original musicians and singers .

Yes. Every white person in North America born between 1945 and 1965 knew about this song.

On the entire planet! In the UK it was also widely used during the 1988 Olympic Games coverage on TV. It was everywhere.

"They are playin it live!!!" So where is the question. Real musicians playing real music. So who will gonna be the original.?.? R.I.P. Tupac, but that's just the way it is...

I think agreeing to have another musician sample your song is like musical adoption - like, allowing your kid to have a life in another family, except it's an adding-to, not a dilution.

This is the original, released in 1986. Powerful lyrics that still hold firm to this day almost 40 years down the line.
Shame really, as it proves that we as a society in general haven't really changed and unfortunately probably won't ever change.
Great song and no wonder Tupac sampled it. Goes hand in hand with everything that he (Tupac) believed in. ESPECIALLY THE FINAL VERSE which implies the Civil Rights Act. ("Well they passed a law in '64 to give those who ain't got a little more")
Hornsby's brother John said "The song is mainly about compassion, about understanding racial and social types, beliefs and practices that are different from your own. It's about a status quo that's so complacent in it's narrow-mindedness and bigotry that it seems it will never change."

This is the original and best version.
Talentless Tupac stole this, obviously not capable of writing his own original music….
I hate it when they say sampled, it’s stolen…..

    • @Nana_Reads
      @Nana_Reads 4 месяца назад

Not stolen if Hornsby gave permission and got writing credits which he did. Sort of like “I will Always Love You” ….. Whitney didn’t steal it from Dolly Parton she used it with permission and Dolly made a lot of money!😊
