Thanks for your wonderful comment!! You know the two best things about rice cookers are 1. No need to time when cooking rice 2. You can eat warm rice pretty much anytime. Japanese people eat rice 2,3 times a day, so it really makes our lives more efficient and effective! It might even be a hidden contributor to Japanese economy. Haha

I am from south Louisiana and grew up eating rice twice a day till I was in my 20s. Rice was eaten with meats, sauce, gumbo, stews, rice dressing, jambalaya, red beans and rice, seafood etoufee, and sometimes was transformed into a delightful rice pudding for dessert. I am quite capable of preparing a nice pot of rice on the stovetop. I have also purchased different brands of rice cookers through the years. My primary complaint with all of those was the hard, browned rice at the bottom of the pot which i tossed into the garbage. But then I discovered Zojirushi! I will NEVER be without this miraculous appliance! The model i purchased is the NP-NVC10. It’s several years old and preforms like a dream - never any hard crunchy bottom of the pot rice - unless you chose the scorch setting.
I have used my rice cooker in different ways since being home so much. My latest experiment has been using silicone cups to hold extra items I want to steam, like leftover rice, eggs or frozen veg. I put my old 3 cup zojirushi on ‘quick cook’ to reheat something (usually a stew, beans, or curry), and place the silicone cups with foods on top of the reheating food. 20 minutes or so, it’s all reheated/cooked. It’s been a great help. The silicone cups are a silicone ‘muffin pan’ I didn’t like, that I cut up into separate pieces.
I usually eat brown rice, which takes longer than white rice. I had a rice cooker and it was good, but slow with brown rice. When I got an instant pot (pressure cooker), it became my new rice cooker. It’s a very versatile cooking appliance, and has completely replaced my rice cooker. Love it.
Sir thank you, I had for a year a normal rice cooker (chinese brand) but i always wanted a Zojiruchi and finally made it to Japan a month ago, could not let the Zojiruchi pass. I cannot be more happy with it, but i never got to experience the daily life of Japanese with the rice cooking so i been looking for videos like yours. Thank you very much, i now can try different things with it, if you have any english booklet for different things to do I would very much appreciate it. Rice is love, rice is life... and Japan is full of it.

I’ve had mine for several years. It’s so nice to put the rice in, put the water in, turn it on and forget about it until the Zojirushi tune plays saying it’s ready. 👍

Yes!! With a rice cooker, having freshly cooked rice for breakfast is as easy as toasting a bread. I live quite minimalistic, but this thing is necessary. Haha

Yes, a grill like that comes in handy, even for vegans. You can grill bread, tomatoes, peppers and even vegan meats. Maybe mochi and even rice cakes. Does very well for meats, although charcoal is better.
One thing i’m so excited to try is special recipes like these in my rice cooker. I’ve had my STAN rice cooker for about a year and a half, and its performance is always mind blowing. One thing i’ll try is lentils. I need a way to have more protein faster and easier. And I still haven’t tried the brown setting. I’m excited!!

Today I replaced the rice cooker that my mom used when I was a kid. It had one button. I just made jasmine rice in my new zojirushi, and I feel like I've never had rice before. I don't mind that it takes about an hour. I bet if I used the quick rice setting it would turn out like my old one (20-30 min).I'm going to have my mom over for dinner, but I'm not going to tell her about the rice cooker. lol For the last couple of months I've been doing it on the stove, and while I can do it, I don't like having to think about it.
Now I’ve had a zojirushi rice cooker( baby elephant) I can’t imagine life without it. If it ever dies I’ll replace it because I can’t go back to cheap rice cookers. I do wash my rice in a separate rice washing bowl to help preserve the rice cooker removable pan for as long as possible. My sone uses Chinese sausage in his rice for a meal after a hard day at college. I love tomato and mushroom rice. However eve;just making any of the several types of rice all work well in this cooker.
Very entertaining and informative! I'll add that most quality rice cookers today will soak white rice for you unless you choose the "quick cooking option"... If it takes closer to 40-50 min for it make white (My basic 5 cup zojirushi does) rice, it has probably soaked it for 20-30 min as part of the cooking cycle.
Thank you!! I never knew that!!! When I use a rice cooker, I never soak white rice, even thought that’s what we all have been taught. My wife and mom never do it anymore, neither does my dad. It only makes the rice too soft. I was thinking it was due to the improvement of shaving techniques by rice stores.
@@japanese1cooking The brand of brown rice I use is called Nishiki. For cooking in electric rice cooker Nishiki suggests adding 2 cups of water for every 1 cup of rice. Today I'm cooking 6 cups of rice, which means I would need to add 12 cups of water. However, the brown rice water line in my Zojirushi rice cooker wants me to add around 5-6 cups. Am I to follow the Nishiki instructions or Zojirushi?
i got two measuring cups and a paddle with my zojirushi 5.5 cup rice cooker as well as a bowl. i gotta say, it was the best hundred dollars i have spent in a long time.
We just recieved our Zojirushi NS-TSC10 in the mail! We went from a 1.5cup amazon rice cooker to a 5.5cup zojirushi and we love it! I Make a lot of recipes with our little one but it just was mever enough for our family everyone would have to wait their turn very annoying. Never again!

Hello! I just received and cooked my rice for the first time in a Zojirushi rice cooker and it was INCREDIBLE, like eating a cloud. I just have a question. The manual specifies I shouldn't cook anything in it aside from rice and cake, so I'm a bit scared of putting anything else in it. Still I really want to try all these recipes... Will my rice cooker break or malfunction if I cook these recipes? My model is NLBAC05SB for 3 cups

I just want a rice cooker that works good and won’t need replacing on a frequent basis. I’m only cooking for one person. Due to chronic illness, rice is a *big* part of my diet. (It doesn’t make me sick, as a rule.) I currently eat mostly parboiled rice, as I can fix that and not ruin it if I’m needing to cook the stuff on the stove.
I wash rice using a plastic or flexi bowl or glass bowl. Nowadays, there are bowls sold that is for washing fruits and vegetables and for rice instead of using the rice cooker's bowl.
There are times when we have to admit a machine is better. A high-end rice cooker is the best example in my experience of cooking for 35 years. We took the plunge a couple of years ago. It took me a bit of time to hit the 'BUY' button. It was expensive. It's paid for itself by virtue of consistent, perfect rice every time. You start it and walk away. Zojirushis are excellent!
Great video - I’ve been on the fence about getting a rice cooker. We have an instant pot and the rice gets a little over cooked at the bottom. I also like the idea of keeping the rice warm. Based on the survey at the end, my life is only about 55% complete 😕… Any recommendations on a good 1st rice cooker to buy? I need to fill the 45% of emptiness that fills my heart…

To avoid oxidizing leafy vegetables and most likely Shiso leaves (I’ve never bought Shiso), use a knife made out of ceramic or plastic. The greens are reacting to the iron in steel knives
I suppose the measure of water and rice depends on the type of rice you're cooking. Is there a lot of difference in mesures between the Japanese rice and the basmati or thai when cooking with the cooker?
I have a tiger rice cooker and my rice never comes out good. It's too hard (texture). I think I need more water. Should I fill up to the number that the rice will be? Like if I use 360ml rice I fill up to the 4?

Very sympathic! 🙂👍🏻 Unfortunately, Zojirushi rice cookers are difficult to obtain in Germany and three to four times as expensive as in Japan, but I will get one of these. Have heard too many times that these are the best rice cookers in the world. The cooked rice in the video looks just perfect. ❤️

I rarely washed rice before cooking and haven’t washed it for the rice cooker. Basmati turns out perfectly.
Hello! I just received and cooked my rice for the first time in a Zojirushi rice cooker and it was INCREDIBLE, like eating a cloud. I just have a question. The manual specifies I shouldn't cook anything in it aside from rice and cake, so I'm a bit scared of putting anything else in it. Still I really want to try all these recipes... Will my rice cooker break or malfunction if I cook these recipes? My model is NLBAC05SB for 3 cups

I just want a rice cooker that works good and won’t need replacing on a frequent basis. I’m only cooking for one person.
Due to chronic illness, rice is a *big* part of my diet. (It doesn’t make me sick, as a rule.)
I currently eat mostly parboiled rice, as I can fix that and not ruin it if I’m needing to cook the stuff on the stove.

I wash rice using a plastic or flexi bowl or glass bowl. Nowadays, there are bowls sold that is for washing fruits and vegetables and for rice instead of using the rice cooker's bowl.
There are times when we have to admit a machine is better. A high-end rice cooker is the best example in my experience of cooking for 35 years. We took the plunge a couple of years ago. It took me a bit of time to hit the 'BUY' button. It was expensive. It's paid for itself by virtue of consistent, perfect rice every time. You start it and walk away. Zojirushis are excellent!

Great video - I’ve been on the fence about getting a rice cooker. We have an instant pot and the rice gets a little over cooked at the bottom. I also like the idea of keeping the rice warm. Based on the survey at the end, my life is only about 55% complete 😕… Any recommendations on a good 1st rice cooker to buy? I need to fill the 45% of emptiness that fills my heart…
Replace the metal pan/insert with the nonstick version, it made a huge difference for Me. I also add about 1/4 more water, than the instructions.
@@evenesence21 thanks Michelle, I appreciate it! We have two pressure cookers - one has a nonstick pot. Anyway, I pulled the trigger on a Zojirushi NS-TSC10. Should be the last one I buy, right? 🙂
To avoid oxidizing leafy vegetables and most likely Shiso leaves (I’ve never bought Shiso), use a knife made out of ceramic or plastic. The greens are reacting to the iron in steel knives

You can also use a wet paper towel to keep fresh herbs from dying. That said, still try to cut herbs at the last minute.

I suppose the measure of water and rice depends on the type of rice you're cooking. Is there a lot of difference in mesures between the Japanese rice and the basmati or thai when cooking with the cooker?
When cooking Japanese rice, rice : water ratio is 1 : 1 to 1 : 1.2 😉

I have a tiger rice cooker and my rice never comes out good. It's too hard (texture). I think I need more water. Should I fill up to the number that the rice will be? Like if I use 360ml rice I fill up to the 4?
That’s definitely an option. I often cook with more water these days. Easier to digest with my old body.
There are so many brand rice cooker ( tiger, zojirushi, pana, toshiba,...), can you give me advice which is the best one (more specific model is better). Thank you.
