This is perfect. I just told my mom yesterday that I want to buy a rice cooker because Im tired of cleaning up my rice "mess" on the stove. Low and behold I found a new one for $5. at Goodwill today!! Im excited to use it now!!
I just made chili and cornbread in my rice cooker. Buy 2 cans Hormel Chili and one box Jiffy cornbread mix. I put 1 can Chili in rice cooker. Then made the Jiffy batter and put ONLY 1/2 batter on top of the chili. Cooked one cycle. Delicious! Used other 1/2 Jiffy batter and other can of Chili to make it again the next day. 😋 ... LOVE these new ideas. Thank you!
Great idea!! Would add oat bran, chia or flax seeds to the cornbread mix and even tomatoes in the chili, and seaweed snacks sprinkled on top after cooking for added nutrition

And thank you for removing those huge, think, unpleasant stems from the spinach - I am convinced that thick stems is the reason that most children and many adults hate spinach. Also look at hot pot / electric lunchboxes for "countertop cooking" ideas. There really is no limit.
You can find these for cheap in thrift stores. I have a much larger one. I made the tortellini and sausage one today, and it was great. All ingredients from Aldi's. I used a full package of tortellini, 2 sweet Italian sausages cut up, fresh spinach and instead of spaghetti sauce, two cups of chicken broth that I made yesterday. My rice setting is 20 minutes and the tortellini came out a bit mushy, so next time I will shut the cooker off after 15 minutes. If you use spaghetti sauce like she did, the rice cycle will probably be fine. My version tasted great and I will get a second meal out of it tomorrow . You should try these recipes. Beats frozen burritos for taste and nutrition.

Claire, you rocked the rice cooker cooking I must say. As a Cantonese I cook rice almost everyday, but your recipes are so easy to prepare, offers so much inspirations besides a traditional four-dishes meal. Thx for sharing!
As a Chinese, I am amazed at how you put this staple Chinese cooking tool to very good use! You have certainly expanded my use of rice cooker. Not that I use it often, I've been using microwave to cook my rice for more than 15 years since my rice cooker said goodbye!
Wow, I cook for one also. I never thought to use my rice cooker. What a time saver! Thank you so much for these recipes. I hope you'll be adding more in the future.

Hi, Claire: Thank you for an enjoyable video. Thank you also for reminding me that I need to bring my rice cooker out of hiding, and get busy making one pot meals. They are a life saver, aren't they? To be honest, right now I am in the process of healing from both a depression that had kicked my butt to the curb, and having survived, by God's Intervention and Grace, a wicked case of Sepsis Shock. It's a miracle I'm alive. So, a rice cooker that can make one pot meals, that I can customize? Girl friend, you have inspired me. By the way, there was something so home-like about your video. I felt "invited" into your kitchen for coffee and recipe sharing. I'm sure a lot of other people who see your videos feel the same way. Nice job!
@ClaireRisper Yes, more rice cooker meals, please. I cook for one. I've been using my large toaster oven for the past 4 years. And have made soup in my rice cooker. But would definitely love more recipes. Thank you for these to add to my rotation.
Apart from cooking rice, I’ve made different casseroles, cooked porridge, soups and curries. It gets used at least twice a week. I would recommend everyone to have a go.
I'm super excited to watch this video. I love my dash rice cooker. My NYC kitchen doesn't have room for anything bigger and since I live alone....this will be great
Really? My little rice cooker has a steamer attachment too. And I’m exhausted and stressed from work - really needed this. And I have all the ingredients in my apartment already. ❤️❤️❤️
My rice cooker didn't come with a steamer, I don't think. My mom gave it to me a long time ago. I only remember it coming with the little paddle and the measuring cup. I still use it often, but I've only ever made rice in it.
As a single person I was on the hunt for a small crockpot and ran across a rice cooker for $12 at Ross. I had a roast that I broke down into 3 smaller ones and made it with vegetables and all. I have made mac and cheese and a few other dishes. I have yet to make rice in it 🤭I love it🥰
I make really good rice on top of the stove so I always thought a rice cooker was just another single use appliance. BUT, this is a game changer. I'm a senior who lives alone and having something healthy to quickly put together is great. One dish meals are my favourite - just give me a bowl and a spoon and I'm happy. Great ideas and I hope you post more of these for us "less creative" cooks. Thanks.
So interesting!! Thank you! I can see that a little creativity goes a long way. I have a slow cooker, but don't always plan far enough ahead to use it. Setting it up and cooking for less than 30 minutes is an excellent way to cook at the end of the day!
. happy to run across this. We have been in a challenging situation. I broke my femur last this year had a hip replacement then dislocated it 3 weeks later. It's been fun (ugh!) Hubs isn't experienced too much in his kitchen but is trying. I'm trying to look for a variety of easy budget friendly ideas to help as much as I can. . We had some because I had his big rig set up for simple meals but he tends to be a meat and potatoes kind of guy. I a variety and cooking is one of my love languages..He's doing a great job I'm just trying to make things easier, it's cool to see how start to learn techniques and to begin to enjoy and us connect as we budget, meal plan and I teach him to cook! We will enjoy and grow as we learn. Blessings Mary and David
Things I've cooked in a rice cooker: - quinoa - wash it, use "1 cup quinoa to 1 3/4 cups water" ratio, cook just like rice. You can use it in a salad or maybe as substitute for the rice in those recipes - hard boiled eggs - steam them in the steamer basket for 20 minutes, use external timer, not the one from the rice cooker. I take mine straight from the fridge. Awesome recipes :)
Yes, scramble eggs with cheese, fresh spinach. steel cut oats adding any fruit. Can brown up bottom, adding a crust on rice, oats, 12:30 Mac and cheese, etc
One good acceaaory to have is a quick-read thermometer. That makes it easy to tell whether items like the chicken tender is done without tearing it to shreds beforehand.
My sister sent me your video since I am live alone and have had many rice cookers…I started with a small rice cooker and now 30 years later have big one that “sings” when starting and finishing 🤭 in fact after watching you, I’m going to get up and make oatmeal in it…so delicious and so easy…yummy yummy after it’s done I use brown sugar, raisins and milk…you’ve got me now as a new subscriber…
I never used my rice cooker like these recipes before but will try 3 out of 4. I’m not crazy about fish flavor rice. But I do make the rice up for me and my sister and heat up a can of soup like hearty type kind and put it over the rice to stretch out the soup. One can for two or one can for each if your are really hungry. Soup like Cambell’s chunky soups. Get them when they are on sale. Can make it over noodles.
Yes! The rice cooker is a really versatile appliance. I use mine to cook rice, steam sweet potatoes, make soups and cook noodles in it. It's a good travelling companion too.
Great, thank you, it was very inspiring. I got my baby rice cooker out of the back of the closet, it is probably the smallest one on earth, and made some soup. Threw in a package Cup Of Soup, added water and deep and frozen broccoli, plus curry powder and herbs. That’s what I could think of at the spur of the moment, after reading your post. I let it cook and simmer and ended up actually very good. Since I try to lose weight the best thing is portion control. Also having one item to clean! Thought I try and use it as a cooker to boil eggs. I am totally ready to experiment and looking forward to my next meal 😊 Thanks again, be safe!
These are great recipes, very easy to veganize! I've been thinking about getting a rice cooker. I had one years ago and used to enjoy making meals in it. I didn't have the basket but that didn't stop me from adding all kinds of things into it. So glad you shared the link!
Since I have the basket, I'm tempted to steam soy curls instead of soak them 8n water to hydrate them. Then half way through, rinse them and put them in the rice mixture or pasta.
everything you cooked looked delicious, i have a rice cooker for the microwave, next time you do rice though, add a little more water or broth which ever you want to use. That will help things not get stuck on the bottom. i never just do the 1 to 1 ratio i always add more water plus it comes out more moist and fluffy
Learned adding extra water so helps. And with brown rice it's extra important. Learned that the hard way the first time i used the cooker. Also, there are little silicone liners that should help with the burnt issue in both the rice cooker and ipot
Hey, great recipe ideas! I use my rice cooker to make ramen meals. I just throw a bunch of veggies, water, sesame oil and a block of good quality ramen and let it cook 1 cycle. ❤ the rice cooker!
I never buy non-stick cookware because of the health issue, but I bought a STAINLESS STEEL rice cooker!! So happy with it. Been using it for several months and it's fantastic. There are so many things you can make in it... not just rice. In fact, I have NOT made rice in it and never will since I've been on the keto diet for multiple years and love the diet... and the skinny... and the superb health. What can I say? My life is so easy with the stainless steel rice cooker.
Hi, got the same cooker from a thrift store, it's never been used. I got it for rice but the booklet with it said it could be used for steaming so jumped on RUclips to see what other people have cooked in them and found you! I love the simpleness of your recipes and that you're a bit messy 🤭 Thanks🤗
New sub from Scotland. Interesting find, a rice cooker, who new! Especially in Scotland.... I will have to try these.... Amazing.... And cheap, we like cheap in Scotland..... Cheerio
I have cooked chicken thighs with thyme and lemon (zest and a little juice) and garlic. Once the chicken is cooked, I take them out and add carrots and ten minutes later zucchini. Adjust seasonings and its a nice keto meal. I serve the vegetable soup first , then the chicken
Excellent! My bestie gifted me her unused rice cooker. I used it for rice and steamed veggies... until now. I'm sooo tired of cooking for one, and will be trying all of these easy to make recipes. Thank you ❤
I have made soup, eggs, oatmeal…almost anything really that you can cook in a pot but have the advantage of set n forget. I have not tried a cake but I will definitely try that.
I drop a frozen Impossible burger patty on top of my carb and veg. After everything is done, I pull out the patty, break it up in the bowl, dump everything still in the pot over it and stir. I've done this with rice, quinoa, pasta, and various combos of spice and veg.
When you were talking about sesame oil I couldn’t tell from the bottle you were using, but if you haven’t tried “roasted” sesame oil, run. 😅 The roasted is so much better than just plain sesame and smells delish when you open the pot. Thanks for all the great ideas using the rice cooker.
@@ClaireRisper I hope you love it as much as I do. I’m sorry it’s actually called Toasted, I called it “roasted” by mistake. LOL, sorry for the confusion. 😆
I definitely agree the rice cooker is such a great tool for healthy eating!!! I bought some edamame today so I can start throwing a handful of that in too 🙂
Here are a couple of my go to options that are very consistent for me. 1) Yellow instant rice mix 1 rice cooker cup with any or all of the following: Sausage bits or even hotdog pieces Frozen corn, peas, and/or carrots Canned, jarred, or fresh mushrooms Diced onion or spring onion Dried herbs of your choice Mix everything and then add your water to the line, moisture in your ingredients will contribute to the final product Sometimes I'll place a whole onion in the center of the pot first that I've sliced almost all the way through like I'm going to dice it and surround it with everything else, then put some seasoning or sauce on top and break up the onion into pieces at the end of the cooking time. I think you can do something similar with a tomato. 2) 1 rice cooker cup of jasmine rice 1 small diced potato A tiny sprinkle of chicken bouillon powder Herbs of your choice A couple of pats of garlic herb butter A little extra water, usually to the next in between measuring line on the pot. The potatoes need it. This makes a very simple pot of rice and potatoes with a bit of scorched buttery rice at the bottom. I leave the butter on top to melt instead of mixing it in. I usually salt the rice slightly on the plate and/or cover it with a sauce that comes from the meat I'm fixing in my air fryer. I love air fried bone in pork chops with this. Some corn or broccoli goes excellent with it. Mushrooms have to be my favorite addition that I mentioned. They hold up so well and never mess with the cooking process. I've just made white rice with sausage, corn, and mushrooms that was delicious.
I've made a couple things in a rice cooker but because I'm always cooking for my family I never really used it. When my oldest moved out I gave it to her. These look absolutely delicious! I'm going to send it to my college kid for inspiration.
My old rice cooker use to have a pan that went at the bottom to lift foods out of the water so you could steam food. I layered potatoes, carrots, chicken leg quarters, onions, peppers and then split open a few sausage links at the top so as it cooked it dripped down the food. Water at the bottom and you may have to go 2 cycles. Just depends on how much food you have in the pot. Quick and easy.
I cook my eggs in my rice cooker; so much more creamier. I had some sesame oil and used most of it to oil a table I got from my father. LOL. My husband bought it years ago when he made the whole Thanksgiving meal Chinese-style, including Peking Duck. I love your ideas and it's fun to see other people sharing their recipes in the rice cooker too!
I had a trusty rice cooker for years! It made PERFECT rice every time. Sadly, it was aluminum and I noticed the metal was eroding ( into my food😱)I searched high and low for a food safe stainless steel one and finally found one, but the rice burns on the bottom🤦♀️. Persians put oiled thin potatoes slices on the bottom to crisp and someday I might try that 😂🤣. I never thot of trying couscous. I also am going to try to find a steamer basket to fit in mine!Thx!
Oh my, all of look delicious! I love mustard and soy sauce but never thought of combining them. Guess, what I'll be trying this weekend? 😀By the way, I have a tiny version of that same rice cooker; I've had it for about 10 years and love it. I'm so glad I stumbled on your channel and this video!
During Covid l moved to a studio on a piece of land...a bit far out of town. At one point all l had is electricity. It was than l got creative with my rice cooker...it was amazing 🎉😊
I was half-listening to your introduction because l was distracted by your lovely looking kitchen. The cabinet color is pretty and nice gold handles, open shelving and "accessories". It all has a stylish and homey feel. I was trying to look around you to see the rest. 😂😊
Ahh thank you so much! The cabinets aren't in great shape but we painted them and tried to fix them up the best we could! I'm definitely a DIY girl so I LOVE to hear nice comments like this!
I have a larger rice cooker and I've made chili, curry vegetables and I've made Sancocho (Dominican style stew with lots of vegetables) in a rice cooker.
Great ideas thank you. Had never bothered with a rice cooker - couldn’t see the point but now……😁 I’ll be looking out for one in order to try your recipes!
Single guy living alone here, been using a zojirushi 1 liter rice cooker to make most of my meals. My goto is rice and beans where I swap the water for broth, add some veg, some meat, eggs, herbs and spices. It's fantastic for making pretty good meals, even without any rice or grains at all such as soups, stews, chili, pasta, fritatas, curries, shakshuka. I suppose an instant pot would also work, but I already have the zojirushi.
OMG, I bought this same rice cooker in Sept 2020 and it's still cooking away. I can't believe how long I have had it. I love it. I use it probably every day. It's tough too. Surprising that I haven't broken it. I am thinking about upgrading to the bigger size tho. 🤔 Only cuz I am greedy. It cooks very well and is super versatile and quick. I love the warm feature too. It keeps the food without burning till I am ready. Sometimes my rice will stick but it comes off easily with the white rice spoon and I like the rice on the bottom. Yummy. 🤭Tfs. I will definitely try some of your recipes. I will def like to try the last one too. I do have sushi rice. Yaaaay me! 😊 😋🤤 OH my tip... I always sit my cooker on a plate and it catches that overflow just incase I am not in the room to lift the top. Easy clean up to rinse a plate then to clean a countertop and floor. You are welcome. 😂
Using a mini rice cooker you can cook anything and most minis, are 500 watts or under , for those campiing, living in a van, car , your power station can cook anything you can cook on a stove ,oven, crock pot or grill !! Another interesting tip : those who eat ramen, you can pull apart the ramen to make 2,servings , i do becos i add vegs meat and crm of soups cheese 😉they also make mini grills and mini waffle makers(260w) . Perfect for one or two people , no waste!

Never contemplated buying a rice cooker. Until now!
As a single person I was on the hunt for a small crockpot and ran across a rice cooker for $12 at Ross. I had a roast that I broke down into 3 smaller ones and made it with vegetables and all. I have made mac and cheese and a few other dishes. I have yet to make rice in it 🤭I love it🥰
We love a bargain 🙌🙌🙌
Definitely a lifesaver after a long day!
. happy to run across this. We have been in a challenging situation. I broke my femur last
this year had a hip replacement then dislocated it 3 weeks later.
Blessings
Mary and David
Things I've cooked in a rice cooker:
- quinoa - wash it, use "1 cup quinoa to 1 3/4 cups water" ratio, cook just like rice. You can use it in a salad or maybe as substitute for the rice in those recipes
- hard boiled eggs - steam them in the steamer basket for 20 minutes, use external timer, not the one from the rice cooker. I take mine straight from the fridge.
Awesome recipes :)
I keep coming back to your video hoping you will do a series of rice cooker meals. I love your presentation.
Welcome!!! Also, oatmeal is genius I’m absolutely going to give that a try!
Amazing for travel!! I have a little external battery that it can be plugged into and we will be taking ours camping!
@@rosewelsh4634 That's a great idea!
I was a vegetarian for many many years and I will say, you can do a lot with lentils in the rice cooker too!
Great ideas for a quick hot lunch. I have used it for warm nacho cheese at a party.
Ooo cheese dip is a great idea!
everything you cooked looked delicious, i have a rice cooker for the microwave, next time you do rice though, add a little more water or broth which ever you want to use. That will help things not get stuck on the bottom. i never just do the 1 to 1 ratio i always add more water plus it comes out more moist and fluffy
I will definitely try that!
Learned adding extra water so helps. And with brown rice it's extra important. Learned that the hard way the first time i used the cooker. Also, there are little silicone liners that should help with the burnt issue in both the rice cooker and ipot
My rice cooker directions say put the cup of rice into the bowl FIRST, and then add water up to line 1 (for one cup rice).
I’m so excited to get a rice cooker now! I’m learning what kitchen appliances I really need.
Amazing! So many ideas running thru my head right now on how to use my cooker!
I’m so glad this gave you some ideas!
How did you cook your eggs?
The rice cooker is such a versatile appliance, I use mine on the daily for so many things!
It’s my new favorite appliance!
I don’t have a rice cooker, but I love my Instant Pot! ☮❤🐾
I can't get the hang of my instant pot. Love my rice cooker. Haven't done complete meals.
I need to learn how to use my instapot!😢
@@natrlchallenge instant pot. they are the best. THink slow cooker on steroids. Basically the same, just much less time.
it looks all of those recipes are instapot compatible, you just need to figure out the timing :)
I drop a frozen Impossible burger patty on top of my carb and veg. After everything is done, I pull out the patty, break it up in the bowl, dump everything still in the pot over it and stir. I've done this with rice, quinoa, pasta, and various combos of spice and veg.
I add whole tomatoes with white rice so good
I will absolutely try this I have soooo many tomatoes from our garden!
Omg this is why I love making these videos. I will absolutely be finding roasted sesame oil asap 😂
@@ClaireRisper I hope you love it as much as I do. I’m sorry it’s actually called Toasted, I called it “roasted” by mistake. LOL, sorry for the confusion. 😆
I've only used mine to cook rice. I will definitely give this idea a try bc I'm always forgetting and burning my dinner lol. Thanks for sharing :)
😂 the way I burn a quesadilla at least once a week ☠️
Thanks for sharing these easy peasy rice cooker meals. I love them because of portion control for weight loss. #Thanks
That was so interesting, I would never ever thought about cooking anything other than rice. Thank you. I am going to give it a try.
I am already a rice cooker convert. It's so effortless... I cook a lot of ramens in it chicken or veggie also soups😋
Awesome video. Just found you! Glad I did. There are just two of us so this is perfect! Thank you so much!
Thanks so much for watching!!
I was just talking to my daughter about this using a rice cooker, Thank you for sharing, The food are more better for you than all that frying.
I definitely agree the rice cooker is such a great tool for healthy eating!!! I bought some edamame today so I can start throwing a handful of that in too 🙂
Great ideas and I also like the mini crockpot for single serve meals, and mini instant pot
Here are a couple of my go to options that are very consistent for me.
1) Yellow instant rice mix 1 rice cooker cup with any or all of the following:
Sausage bits or even hotdog pieces
Frozen corn, peas, and/or carrots
Canned, jarred, or fresh mushrooms
Diced onion or spring onion
Dried herbs of your choice
Mix everything and then add your water to the line, moisture in your ingredients will contribute to the final product
Sometimes I'll place a whole onion in the center of the pot first that I've sliced almost all the way through like I'm going to dice it and surround it with everything else, then put some seasoning or sauce on top and break up the onion into pieces at the end of the cooking time. I think you can do something similar with a tomato.
2) 1 rice cooker cup of jasmine rice
1 small diced potato
A tiny sprinkle of chicken bouillon powder
Herbs of your choice
A couple of pats of garlic herb butter
A little extra water, usually to the next in between measuring line on the pot.
This is the best comment!!! You are a rice cooker chef!!!
@ClaireRisper Thank you, I just love sharing back! Rice cooker recipes are fun and convenient. Thanks for giving me more inspiration!
I've made a couple things in a rice cooker but because I'm always cooking for my family I never really used it. When my oldest moved out I gave it to her. These look absolutely delicious! I'm going to send it to my college kid for inspiration.
I make my chicken and yellow rice in my rice cooker but I am for sure going to try the salmon bowl.
I cook in the rice cooker all kinds of vegetables, garbanzo, lentils ,quinoa ,even eggs and pancakes. I like ur idea recipe, the salmon and rice ❤❤❤
Just made the salmon bowl and it is bomb! Thanks so much!
Yay!! I’m glad it turned out good!!
I sauté chicken (or burgers) in mustard in my cast iron skillet. I’ll have to try the soy sauce! Thanks,😊
There are Silicone liners for rice cookers and IPOT. Fits right in the bottom. Real popular in Asia.
Ok I HAVE to try potatoes in it asap lol
Nomads use these. It’s such an easy appliance and if using a portable power source, look for one with a lower wattage.
Besides making rice, I make spaghetti & taco meat with my rice cooker. Super easy & I only clean up one pot!
Oooo I love to hear that your cooker has lasted so long! What a great bargain!!
Yes I make Mac and cheese so good, and chicken soup. So easy and good, also the best omelette maker Judy mix eggs with your favorite things.
Oooo I’m definitely going to try the omelette! That’s a great idea!
During Covid l moved to a studio on a piece of land...a bit far out of town. At one point all l had is electricity. It was than l got creative with my rice cooker...it was amazing 🎉😊
It is great for making Stuffing / Dressing without the turkey
thank you for excellent volume, & sharing ways to use a rice cooker!
just rice, but I had thought about cooking other things, but never did. Now watching you do it, I will seriously think about it.
You should definitely experiment! I have never had anything go terribly wrong lol
Never heard of using the cooker this way great idea.
Terrific
Years ago as i recall a male made me a meal like u did w the Salmon
Great dishes
I can cook rice well on the stove🎉
I was half-listening to your introduction because l was distracted by your lovely looking kitchen. The cabinet color is pretty and nice gold handles, open shelving and "accessories". It all has a stylish and homey feel. I was trying to look around you to see the rest.
😂😊
Ahh thank you so much! The cabinets aren't in great shape but we painted them and tried to fix them up the best we could! I'm definitely a DIY girl so I LOVE to hear nice comments like this!
@@jenhampton1627 I was doing the same lol 😆 very pretty kitchen. I love pretty and airy kitchens. Best room in the house!
I have a larger rice cooker and I've made chili, curry vegetables and I've made Sancocho (Dominican style stew with lots of vegetables) in a rice cooker.
I love your ideas , practicality plus creativity 💝
Thank you so much!
Great ideas thank you. Had never bothered with a rice cooker - couldn’t see the point but now……😁 I’ll be looking out for one in order to try your recipes!
These look yummy! Would love some more of these rice cooker recipes, please & thank you!
It’s so easy to create your own based on the flavors you like, get in there and experiment with some spices!
I have that Black & Decker rice cooker also, I love it!
Wow ! Thanks for sharing. I'll be ordering a rice cooker 😊
Yes! I do use mine for everything and love to see these recipe ideas ❤
Love these ideas and that you provided such a great variety of grains and proteins. These look so simple yet very flavourful. Can't wait to try!
I’ve done lentils and rice but not beans! I definitely want to try that out!
I think i have that exact rice cooker 😊 During covid, I learned how to make Spanish rice in my rice cooker 😊
Ooo I will definitely look into that! Sounds delicious!
You’re brilliant! I too have only used my rice cooker for rice 😂
Honestly I saw someone use it on TikTok for a chicken leg and it absolutely blew my mind 😂
Great healthy dishes , you are good for ideas thanks
I didn’t know a rice cooker could be used for other things! Thanks for the great ideas!
Hi love your video I had my rice cooker for about 3 years now I got it on sale for black Friday,I have tried ramen noodles in it and tuna noodles in it,but they all came out really good, tfs your Rice cooker recipes
