Rap music and controversy are two words that often go hand in hand. And today we will be looking at some of the most controversial rap albums ever made! Hip hop albums can cause controversy for multiple reasons, but do all of the ones on this list deserve to be labelled as offensive?

In a way, they all set each other up for success.
NWA started with being violent and making violent lyrics acceptable.
Eminem took that and ended up making target audiences like gays and women.
Tyler took THAT and expanded on it with terrifying visuals and stories about gruesome acts (which Em also did, but to a lesser extent)

The first CD I bought was Marshall Mathers LP, it definitely deserves to be on this list even the explicit version is censored.
He had the infamous I'm Back lyric, the Marshal Mathers lyric, and the Kim lyric all censored on the explicit version. That's a definite controversial album.
I mean when one of your songs was so screwed it had to be mostly censored on the explicit release of the albums and completely replaced on the censored version of the album you know your album caused a controversy

Its 2021 and Bastard and Goblin are still masterpieces of emotional storytelling from a deranged perspective. The way he could take these insane B-horror movie scenarios and make them so genuinely disturbing to some is just proof. He makes you almost understand the feels and people hate it.
I find that Tyler's early works are good records that can be great if you relate to them. I understand why people love the dark, emotionally raw, angry and visceral approach, but I and many others don't prefer the abrasive and gratuitousness of it. I find that as I've gotten older and mellowed out, I want more emotional provocation from music and less emotional release from it, and I believe that's a big part of what keeps people away from Bastard, Goblin, and other early OF stuff. Not to say it isn't good, but it isn't for everyone, certainly.
