As soon as I saw that 'ISO 900'...I laughed my socks off ! The ISO 9000 ( or BS 5750...it's the same thing really ) 'kind of' works like this....for EVERY SINGLE stage of a process there's a paper trail...and I do mean EVERY. SINGLE. STAGE. Which in theory is fine...IF the person / people doing said paper trail do it honestly...and that's where it falls flat. I started work at one photolab where the MD was a female, now I've got nothing against female bosses...I've worked with some great ones! But she was THE most arrogant, abusive, insulting person I have EVER worked for. When I actually took over as manager at the lab the first thing I did was to print the quality control test negatives ( there's one for EVERY film that you'd normally get in a high street photolab ). In this case that's about 20 or so different films, they come in a 'normal exposure', one that's underexposed by 2 stops, and one that's overexposed by 2 stops...this means you can balance out the colours and density ( how light or dark the prints will be ) for each film and make SURE check everything was as it should be. On top of that you ALSO have the 'master balance' to set, And NONE of them were even CLOSE. The underexposed and over exposed channels were massively out of balance...this is BAD...mainly because the company were shooting for the BS 5750 or ISO 9000 'Industry standards'...if they could get that it would be a HUGE boost...especially for publicity. So I phoned the area manager and told him 'You've got BIG problems...the last guy you had as manager'? 'Yeah? what about him'? 'He faked the paper work...this machine doesn't have even ONE channel that's balanced properly'. Cutting the story short...he turned up the next day closely followed by the MD and the Assistant MD. Once she realised the paperwork was a work of fiction she laid into ME ! The final straw came when she ripped into me for "letting the (photo) lab get into this state"! She proceeded to tell me about all my short comings, lack of experience ( despite me having been in photography since before she was born)...then she asked me ( a bit late methinks ) "How long have you been the manager here"! I looked back at her calmly..."As from when I started as the manager?" She nodded and spat 'YES!...from when you started'! I looked her in the eye and calmly said..."This is my second day here...I took over yesterday about 1.00 PM". It took me less than an hour from when I took over the lab to find out what had been going on.
So many times, in so many industries, that the good old "No more overtime" rule more or less instantly flies back in management's face, genuinely amazing when it happens to you, you go home happy as larry knowing there's fuck all they can say about it, good times.
Being a lo-o-o-o-o-ngtime IT person (started in 67, retired in 03), I can absolutely tell you that IT is absolutely NOT a 9-to-5 (or here in the Midwest US, an 8-5) job. There's always the need for overtime to get the job done, and often, in support roles, being on-call at all hours to support production. Anyone, company or manager, who prohibits extra time by IT personnel will be cutting their own throat.
thank you for lifting my spirit. I just came home from my uncles funeral. he passed away peacefully at 92. the worst part was the corona restrictions. no family gathering afterwards and sharing memories.

Seems to me, if you have a mission critical person on your staff, you should do everything you can to see that person stay on and do the job they know best.
Print an MP4? She obviously didn't understand that an MP4 is a SOUND/Music/video file for Apple ITunes programs, and equipment. It's not new either. This type of file has been in existence for more then a decade. Would it have hurt her to have taken a few free online classes to catch up?
2nd story, OP, having been fired by his boss, found a new godfather, worked for godfather's underboss until godfather left. Backstabbed underboss to get back in the good graces of the guy who originally fired him. Classy.
ISO9000 and 27001 are a puta to implement without someone that already did so and the full cooperation of the entire management structure. Only failure in inspection I ever got was always due to management not sticking to the rules set to be compliant. And being pissy when you tried to enforce those rules on them, no matter the liability not following those rules can have when dealing with banking, personal and medical information.
