It's nice to have some closure on *_why_* Zelda CD-i was so shitty. Even Aonuma was like "CD-who? What? I don't remember. I have to go. *Get out of my living room.*"
Well to be fair, Aonuma couldn't remember much about developing Majora's Mask either. That was the first game he was in charge of, so you would expect _that_ to be very memorable to him.
At first i felt bad, but Philips did give those guys $600,000 and a year to come up with a decent game. I feel like they were doing cocaine off of hookers titties instead of actually you know.. making a game?
I know I’m... Fuck 6 years late?! But, erm Let me introduce you to your party! Ragnathrow, an elite warrior from the lands of Elsendior Alsandium, wise mage of the prestigious Xanthder School And this is... Beth
That was effectively the party in my first D&D campaign. A Monk, a Bloodhunter, a Ranger, a Barbarian... and a young girl who would cast random Wild Magic spells based on her emotional state. The Barbarian (a Goliath) ended up adopting her, leading to the adorable image of an eight-foot tall savage warrior, and sitting on his shoulder is an elf child, just vibing.
I don't think it was really intended to come off like that...It was probably just a working reference to one of the characters being female but not necessarily having a job picked out for what she would do yet.
verarticus And that's crappy design. You pick the roles and then arbitrarily assign who's male and who's female. You don't wedge a token character in there because they'll almost always suck and be disliked because they weren't conceived of as a game mechanic firstmost.
Man, that third Zelda game would have been some high fantasy. Your team has the mysterious elven fighter, a powerful magician who can bend the rules of reality and um, girl with the ability to girl.
0:30 "...one that consists of the protagonist, who's a mix between and elf and a fighter, a magic user and a girl." Sounds like he's saying that Link is all that xD ahahah.... ._. .... ಠ_ಠ oh god... he kinda is!
***** If you've 100%'d the game then you'd know that neither Sheik nor Zelda were useless. You'd know that they actually did a hell of a lot relating to the story of Ocarina. You'd also know that Zelda can stand up for herself, as seen in the Smash and Hyrule Warriors universe. Where she is playable as both Zelda and Shiek. I fail to see your problem here, because never has there been a point where any incarnation of Zelda has ever been portrayed as weak. If you actually knew the games, which you should since you 100% the game on your N64 and 3DS, then you'd understand the major role Zelda has, as both Shiek and herself.
GamerWalkthroughs101 Haha I would love for DYKG to do their Zelda part 6 video (or whatever number it would be) and only say that one line, and then post it on April 1st. That would be perfect lol.
I see you everywhere. How the heck do you manage to comment so many places (Here, Robbaz, PBG, ect.) while still producing content? Legitimate question.
They're from the secret fourth branch of the timeline, created because of the time travel in Skyward Sword when you plant the seed in the Temple of Time. In the altered timeline you can no longer visit, Groose becomes King of the lower world (now Grooseland) where the heroes of their history are descended from that clown who runs the minigame shop.
Ah, finally one of these video game info channels mention the legendarily infamous CD-i Zelda games. Only you forgot to mention that these notorious cutscenes are a subject of creative humour to this day, due to the immensely popular world of RUclips Poop.
That one Mario CD-i game, too. And then, it expanded to some old video game cartoons, other web shows, and so on and so forth. Before long, there went everybody's media embarrassments.
kash smith "Link: The Faces of Evil, Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon and Zelda's Adventure are three action-adventure games produced by Philips for the CD-i " en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD-i_games_from_The_Legend_of_Zelda_series
Knowing it's your boss's fault for giving you no budget and no time, doing the best with what meager resources you're given, knowing it doesn't matter because the board was tilted against you the entire time.
I love Nintendo, I really do. But the fact that they sort of forced Phillips to make games on a console not meant for games was pretty damn stupid. All this time I thought that the CD-I games had little to no influence or direction by Nintendo at all. I think it goes without saying that the whole Nintendo/Sony deal would've benefited Nintendo immensely, no duh.
They didn't force them to make anything. After the deal went sour Philips still had a contract that allowed them to create a few games featuring Nintendo characters. I'm sure Nintendo would have gladly chose not to have these games made if they could have.
I figured it out. The CDI games fit the tiume line where after Ocarinia of Time the hero of time dies and is sent to hell instead of limbo as in Majora's Mask.
Oh Please, do you think that they were actually considering a timeline at any point when they create a new Zelda Game? The only ones with a real connection are OoT,MM,WW,PH and ST, The "timeline" was just made up to please fans.
+greendayremix, it doesn't matter if it was conceived later or whatever, it's still well thought and unique, an interesting template/foundation to have established and look at. And also the op was not serious and being sarcastic; no canon also meaning not counting as actually part of the legit main series
I'm surprised that I haven't found a single person online speculating whether the Oocca and the City In The Sky (from Twilight Princess) have been inspired by the ancient Greek play called "The Birds" The play was written by Aristophanes (performed in 414 BC) and this is the plot of the play as described on Wikipedia: "Pisthetaerus, a middle-aged Athenian, persuades the world's birds to create a new city in the sky, thereby gaining control over all communications between men and gods." Remember what Shad said about the Oocca? "Yes, according to legend, Hyrule was made by the Hylians, who, as we all know, are the closest race to the gods. But also according to legend, long ago there was a race even closer to the gods, and some say these creatures made the Hylians. When they created the people of Hylia, they simultaneously created a new capital, a city that floated in the heavens" So what do you guys think? Both stories feature floating lands and both lands serve the purpose of being closer to the Gods than the humans are. And let's not forget that both areas are inhabited by bird like creatures.
Jasmine Johnston Its also because Link is supposed to "link" the player with the game. They don't want Link to say something or act in a way that would go against any player, so the player typically makes up what they would say as Link.
Was the city in the sky intended to be as creepy and weird as it is? The bird people and the surreal added to it but the fact that i'm pretty sure it's what became of skyloft makes it even weirder. Also, are the bird people what the loftwings eventually turned into? Or did the residents of skyloft turn into them since both groups are claimed to be species that are closely related to the gods? Did Skyloft fall apart and become a monster infested shithole because the triforce and the godess statue weren't there anymore? Was the clawshot you found there the one Link found in Skyward Sword and probably left behind there? What a weird dungeon filled with so many questions.
Did you know? The music of Outset Island from Wind Waker(HD) is similar to Kokiri Forest from Ocarina of Time *MIND BLOWN* (some parts) Hint: Listen to the music carefully! :)
Another cool fact- The Skyward Sword theme is Zelda's lullaby... BACKWARD! There are recordings of it played backward here on RUclips, and it is truly mind-blowing.
You know what would be cool? Take CD-i Zelda games' stories and characters, take to Zelda Classic, make a whole new game that plays like an actual Zelda
Here's something interesting. In Spirit Tracks there are treasures called star fragments (I think). It says that they might have fallen from the sky and they look similar to the gratitude crystals from Skyward Sword.
The knowledge of party development in previous games gives me hope for a new Zelda game where you can swap between playing as Link or Zelda on the fly.
I think there's another reference to Pikmin in Wind Waker. The boss of the Earth Temple when thrown into the spikes will split into those ghost like enemies. The colors of them are blue, green, and red. This is probably not a reference to Pikmin, but blue and red just make me think of Pikmin.
As an aspiring composer, I've made it a bullet on my bucket list to write at least one opera. Thing is, I've actually once considered making an opera based on the story of Ocarina of Time (or Zelda lore in general, really), in an incredibly corny, nerdy manner. But, I'm too afraid it would become the CD-i game of contemporary classical music. Plus, royalties, I guess.
+The Young Gamer But then again, in english it translates to small/brushwood dog, so technically since your sentence is mostly in english it is safe to assume that it should be in english.
Dont you hate it when people have absurd names? Didn't know that. i don't know japanese, xD all i know is "Doge" is actually a Shiba-Inu. and thats the only name i knew of it.
1:00 When I saw the unused cutscene, at first I was like: "WTF IS THE GREAT FAIRY DOING TO YOUNG LINK?!" Then I looked closer and realized that the Great Fairy was teaching Young Link how to do a spin attack. XD
Legend of Zelda Windwaker has one of my favorite songs in the series. Dragon Roost Island. It is just so amazing and very catchy sometimes. I find myself humming or whistling it when I go on a walk or something else like at work
Portugal and Japan have some great old history together. Their word for thank you ''arigato'' comes from the Portuguese influence there. I loved earing about Portugal in this episode and in fandom way just happy to hear PBG say Portugal xD
After majoras mask, the selfs franchise has been declining as they exploit their enormous consumer base's nostalgia to ensure sales for their most beloved and iconic franchise. Not saying the new games are bad but they certainly aren't revolutionary or innovative
fourswords was merely a quick moneygrab, wind waker's sailing and art was unique il give you that but now its just remakes (oot/mm3d), remasters(linkbetweenworlds), and gimmicky spinoffs(phantomhourglass). Twilight Princess tried too hard to be ocarina's spiritual successor and Skyward Sword tried too hard to reinvent the franchise name. Zelda wii U does look promising however now that theyve made it open world, we'll see how it goes
What games these days are revolutionary or even scramble across as innovative anyway? Especially long running series. The minute you change something, the fans are up in arms. I doubt the Zelda fanbase can even agree what is the best Zelda game or even the top three.
03:06 This guy also appears in the Legend of Zelda Minish Cap he first appears when you do the returning book quest from the library to go to the 4th dungeon the Temple Of Droplets (also he is alone in his house with the door locked doing researchs about the Picoris/Minish)
The third Zelda CD-i game, "Zelda's Adventure" also showed the tight budget and memory limitations of the console. The game actually did have full motion video cutscense with real actors... sometimes. Most of the time, however, the game would only display a series of still images instead. The game also had long transitions between screens as the game could only load a single small square area at a time.
The animations in the CDI games aren't actually 'bad' just the art style. The animations are actually decently smooth, definitely better than I could draw BY HAND o.o So i applaud those animators
Konpeito (the Japanese candy) seem incredibly similar to the starbits from Super Mario Galaxy. So I guess that's where starbits came from. And since lumas eat starbits to be able to transform into something, aren't we all stardust then? And also I think that "luma" comes from the Spanish word for moon which is "luna".
As someone who owned a CDi, I can safely say that, yes, the system is not a gaming console. It's more like a multimedia device. The programs I used mostly for the thing was a huge encyclopedia for homework research and the media player for playing CD's, and watching movies, seeing how it was a predecessor of the DVD. The only games I remember playing on it that were any good were point and click games like 'The 7th guest' and 'Evidence' (a proto phoenix wright of sorts.)

I like how the description of the 3rd character is just a girl, nothing about them or what they do, like girl is a role or something.
The girl shoots lasers from her eyes obv.

Legend of Zelda Windwaker has one of my favorite songs in the series. Dragon Roost Island. It is just so amazing and very catchy sometimes. I find myself humming or whistling it when I go on a walk or something else like at work
1:00 i-i need an adult!!!
I am an adult.
Great Fairy: I am an Adult
another adult! 2! 2 adults! I need 2 adults right now!
UltraRhino [one of the other great fairies shows up] helloooooo
Portugal and Japan have some great old history together. Their word for thank you ''arigato'' comes from the Portuguese influence there.
I loved earing about Portugal in this episode and in fandom way just happy to hear PBG say Portugal xD
Man, it sure is boring around here.
The GamingRowlet Gee*
You can't correct something this bad.
1:50-2:01 were those konpeiko candies also inspiration for star bits in the mario galaxy games. Cause they look really similar.
Don't use penutbuttergaymer for these videos anymore
Why ???
I was going to ask why you felt that way but then I saw penutbutter *gay* mer and realized that you must be someone very young.
projackX Or probably someone who saw PBG read hate comments on the panel.
JRPGPirate Well, act like a child and people will think you are one.
JRPGPirate
He should know then that he's name spells "Pee Butt Gay".
1:57 Oh yeah! I live in portugal and I remember seeing candy like that when I was little :P
After majoras mask, the selfs franchise has been declining as they exploit their enormous consumer base's nostalgia to ensure sales for their most beloved and iconic franchise. Not saying the new games are bad but they certainly aren't revolutionary or innovative
Wind waker was pretty innovative and pretty awesome. You can argue that TP and SS were less than original, but WW was certainly innovative.
fourswords was merely a quick moneygrab, wind waker's sailing and art was unique il give you that but now its just remakes (oot/mm3d), remasters(linkbetweenworlds), and gimmicky spinoffs(phantomhourglass).
Twilight Princess tried too hard to be ocarina's spiritual successor and Skyward Sword tried too hard to reinvent the franchise name.
Zelda wii U does look promising however now that theyve made it open world, we'll see how it goes
ShyanTheLegend Call them gimmicky but they did stuff the Zelda series never did before.
ShyanTheLegend A Link Between Worlds was not a remaster of anything. It's a sequel to A Link to the Past.
What games these days are revolutionary or even scramble across as innovative anyway? Especially long running series. The minute you change something, the fans are up in arms. I doubt the Zelda fanbase can even agree what is the best Zelda game or even the top three.
I played those cdi-I Zelda games on shrooms once and had nightmares for days,...those cutscenes are wicked.
Zelda is overrated.
There, I said it. What are you gonna do? Decapitate me ?
lol jk
Well I tell you what......I personally disagree.
I agree. I don't see why you need to state this opinion in such a way publicly. It almost comes off as if you're challanging everyone who likes Zelda.
***** How can you judge something without watching it first?
***** No, but what about the other guy.
Faces of Evil and Wand of Gamelon have kickass soundtracks
Nothing is better then zelda and peanut butter gamer! Much love and respect for both
The animations in the CDI games aren't actually 'bad' just the art style. The animations are actually decently smooth, definitely better than I could draw BY HAND o.o So i applaud those animators
I love these videos. Now we wait for the next one haha.
I absolutely adore the music from these games.
4:23 NOPE. NOPE NOPE NOPE. WE DON'T TAKE THIS PBG AND YOU KNOW THIS!!
4:04 ...And PBG forgot about this and didn't tell Jeff
Konpeito (the Japanese candy) seem incredibly similar to the starbits from Super Mario Galaxy. So I guess that's where starbits came from. And since lumas eat starbits to be able to transform into something, aren't we all stardust then? And also I think that "luma" comes from the Spanish word for moon which is "luna".
0:14 was that game grumps footage when Jon made the hit the enemy off the cliff joke
5:09 that link though
Five Nights at Freddy's - Did You Know Gaming? Feat. Markiplier
Dood, that thing with the Pikmin and the goddess statues blew my ding-dang mind.
There were some mangas base on Link to the Past one did had an archer. Another version it had a fighter.
Did you know that the zelda loco is also used in a popular shop in Finland lol.
Konpeitos are still a famous candy in Portugal and they're called "Confeitos". That is a nice piece of trivia that I didn't know about
1:56 I love konpeito! I've heard the star bits in the Mario Galaxy games are based off them as well.
what soundtrack is playing during the facts about Zelda CDI?
I love the City and the Sky music.
Large schwamps. I hope I wasn't the only one that heard that.
Team-based Zelda adventure sounds interesting.
Will we ever see this in motion?!?!?! I want to...:D
I find it kind of hilarious to see an Elsword ad in the screencap of the DYKG website.
The CD-i game cutscenes are best when used in hillarious jokes.
1:25 Much inspiration. Many idea. Wow.
Probably one of my favorite channels.
