I keep thinking about making a spiritual successor; my own original IP that clearly follows the Zelda II formula. They had a winning formula for Zelda II, the only problem was the Zelda name. If it was made under a new IP so no one would compare it to the other Zelda games it would be wildly successful.

I think the one who made up Valley of the Flood based it on the rumors and speculation from way back during Twilight Princess initial reveal. Since there was basically no official information regarding the timeline at all, many people thought the new Zelda game would have to be a Wind Waker prequel and would therefore have to end with Link failing and being forgotten. So when the VotF rumors started appearing, I thought it was just someone who had really wanted those old theories to be true and tried to get people talking about them again.
I recall a friend telling me about the Valley of the Flood rumor back in the day... I don't remember if either of us believed it or not, but it just sounds so compelling and unique that I can't help but wish it was real.
It's amazing that the lastest Zelda games carry the most of miyamota imagined, going on a vague adventure across a wide countryside collecting and experimenting with equipment, and just wondering around aimless and get into whatever antics come up.
The Zelda Smartphone game I remember several outlets covering. Maybe they were being hopeful and said Zelda would be a game that may come out after Nintendo announced a partnership, but that's one of those projects that could still be possible and I'm excited to see how it works lol
It makes me so sad that Mario Run wasn't more popular. They put out a good enough demo that showed you what you'd get and how fun it was, and that made me buy it, happy that they weren't gonna micro my transactions. I played through it all and even played a good bit of the races and shuffles or whatever. It's great to just keep on the phone for when you just have a few minutes to kill and not enough internet for a good stable experience wasting time on said internet. It's no masterpiece but it's fun in small bursts and I always have it in my pocket, and I had fun playing all the regular levels and hunting the special coins. Pretty sure there's still four coins I haven't gotten... anyway, I really feel like I got ten bucks worth of entertainment out of it. Definitely more than I've ever gotten buying a microtransaction.
"There hasn't been a new Zelda game or even a hint of one for two years at this point" but Phantom Hourglass came out in 2007, the year after Twilight Princess came out
13:10 yeah to be kind of fair to Nintendo here you can play all the content in their games for free. Mario Kart tour especially since it's just tracks they release every two weeks
People say that Zelda mobile took the form of Guardian Tales behind the scenes, the game even has so many Nintendo references like they got the IPs, but it's not developed by Nintendo, but same out the same year that people said it would come out, this makes people believe the zelda mobile game turned into Guardian Tales after Nintendo cut ties with them and scrapped the zelda part of the project, so they reused assets and made it Guardian Tales.
I think the Zelda Mobile game would've just simply been a kind of puzzle game, maybe with simple dungeon exploration, perhaps even with randomly generated layouts. But some kind of puzzle focused/based gameplay makes the most sense to me. I get the feeling it would've also used a Toon Link rather than BotW Link, especially if it was 3d- the simpler design and lower poly-count it would require would run better on a wider range of mobile phones than a more detailed one I imagine. Toon Link would've probably also been chosen to appeal to younger audiences or their parents, since it is a very cute and child-friendly design, while BotW Link could've been seen as maybe being more "Teen friendly" to parents unfamiliar with the series. I don't REALLY know much at all about marketing or game development though, for all I know they would've stuck with the BotW design for synergy or something. In the end though it REALLY is purely speculation, of course, lmao.
The most hilarious thing about that Project Deluge interview is how bullshit it is if you've seen and read orher interviews with Aonuma; he's very much in Miyamoto's camp of gameplay over story. Plus that whole thing reads like an edgy 15 year old wrote it.
11:02 It's the meme! The name Project Deluge sounds familiar. (Kinda reminds me of that one campaign that got Xenoblade Chronicles a US release.) However, if they swapped Eiji Aonuma with Yoshiaki Koizumi when it comes to story, that interview would probably be a bit more accurate. That guy did stuff for Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask. Also, I'm surprised you didn't mention any old magazine scans of an SNES Adventure of Link remake (which I know existed as magazine scans), much less brought up the Gigaleak of a platform-game Link, or that one Adventure of Link song in some of the SNES test carts. Then again, this video is about rumors.
I remember there being a lot of discussion about the Valley of the Deluge rumor, but I never saw anyone point out the obvious reason it was fake: It makes no sense to occur at the point in the timeline that it was stated to. The interview made it clear that Hyrule was going to be flooded during the events of this game, and that it would take place between OOT and WW. But the issue with that is that Hyrule isn't flooded until the end of Wind Waker. Until then, it's preserved, perfectly dry and intact using some kind of magic to keep the ocean from falling on it. For a Zelda game that supposedly was being made with story as a major component and taking place in a clearly stated part of the timeline, such a blatant contradiction wouldn't be overlooked. Yet, I don't remember anyone else bringing this up, despite many thinking that it was fake.
Speaking of fake Zelda rumors: does anyone else remember around 2007-2011 there were rumors that Bungie (yes, THAT Bungie) were going to be making a sci-fi Zelda game? It might have been from some obscure gaming magazine I read as a kid. I remember there was this art (probably stolen fanart or something) of Link in this green futuristic armor like Master Chief and he was riding a motorcycle or hoverbike. I tried googling this and couldn't find anything. Am I crazy or does anybody know what I'm talking about?
They covered this on the channel, there were 2 Zelda side games that Western studios (Retro and one other I think) pitched to Nintendo iirc. One didn't really get past the concept and the other was pitched with a really boring combat demo, so neither came to fruition.
i remember this. i believe it was an issue of gameinformer that came out around 2008. this article wasn't talking about an actual game in the works, though. They just interviewed a game designer from bungie and asked him how he would make a zelda game if given the opportunity.
Man, the revelation about how much more profitable microtransaction-riddled garbage gachafests are compared to actual fully-fledged games on phones are is really sad to see. Why do smartphone gamers *like* being screwed over out of their money by gambling mechanics or temporary powerups?
Weird, I haven't heard of Project Deluge/Valley of the Flood, closest I heard of was a Zelda game with a futuristic setting that wasn't the original plan for Zelda 1 or LttP but something further down the line, I forget exactly when it was, though it was at least after Twilight Princess.

I remember hearing something about a cancelled Wind Waker prequel where you'd play as Tetra, specifically focusing on the brief backstory mentioned in the game of them taking Forsaken Fortress, saying it would be some puzzle strategy game. However, it was several years ago that I saw a single video mentioning it, so I'm not sure if it was a rumour, if the rumour was just "a Wind Waker prequel" and the rest was speculation or wishes, or if there was no rumour and just fan wishes. I believe the channel was GameOver Jesse. Can anyone figure out what I'm talking about and tell me if I'm remembering right?
A “false” Zelda game would be interesting especially with such a cookie cutter plot of totk. Definitely would change things up from the same plot they've been doing since the 80s.
Always so impressed with your research. If the news was this thorough, there'd be world peace. For now, we're the lucky gamers who get to watch your videos. Cheers!
In seasons and in ages you can pick one of 3 pets, this basicaly changes everything about how or where you can go in the game, maybe earlier in developement they were all going to be seperate games.
Honestly for how obviously fake the leak for Project Deluge is, the actual pitch of a game taking place in that setting would be cool to see and the concept of some random thinking they're the Hero of Legend *was* good enough for Hyrule Warriors to use for Linkle (a very underused, underexplored character all things considered).
Just gotta defend Fire Emblem Heroes here, as spending money in that game is ENTIRELY optional. No content or units or anything of the sort is locked behind microtransactions, except for additional costumes for select units, that make them a little bit (and i mean it) stronger. Been playing since launch without spending a cent and never had trouble clearing the PvE content or reaching the highest tier of Arena. Dunno about Nintendo's other mobile games, though.
I never thought I'd be nostalgic over a fake game leak but here we are. I honestly miss the hype and speculation behind Valley of the Flood. There used to be some really cool fan art for the game people made in excitement.
While watching this, i realized that if nintendo were to release a cheaply made game for longtime fans and this game were to come out on gba or gbc, i would absolutely buy it. I cant be the only one.
Fire Emblem Heroes mentioned! It's a dangerous game for an FE fan like me; I tried quitting a year ago, but didn't have the willpower to. Too much time invested and love for the franchise - and yes, I did put money in it.
Ye, I recently quit because I really didn't have fun and felt like a shore, didn't help the main story became so boring after chapter 4 and all the oc became big boba goddess. The hard part was I had over 4k orbs to let go and I was a day one player.
Ocarina of time started out as a Zelda 2 remake, because myamoto wanted to make zelda 2 have bushido fighting in 3d but that was not possible on NES but it was on N64.
Adding to the fake Zelda deluge shit, he says "miyamoto and i" instead of "Mr. Miyamoto". That's completely unlike Mr. Eiji since he's always said "Mr. Miyamoto"
I mourn that we never got an Oracle-trilogy, if only because I'd like Farore to have something for herself... but such is life. Funnily enough, I think this is the only rumour I actually heard of. I guess I've been lucky enough to not come across ANY of the rumours here...
I think the six game rumor is from Ages and Seasons mechanics, one having past and present, the other having four seasons, making 6 whole zelda games!!
Everyone talks about how scummy micro transactions are, and I rarely see anyone rooting for them, so seeing the comparison between Mario and Fire Emblem felt like the biggest betrayal. Can’t blame Nintendo, they tried being honest, but everyone just turned around, did the complete opposite, and actually PREFERRED the micro transactions. What the hell, man
Mobile gaming is an entirely different beast than console gaming. Console/handheld gamers prefer to pay for a game beforehand and don't like microtransactions, but for mobile gaming, paying money just to play the game is a death sentence, as most people would rather play for free. It helps that most players only play those games for about a half-hour per day, if that, so making it free gives them a sense of satisfaction due to not spending money.
I'm guessing the $54.61 figure they give in the video is offset by whales. In most mobile games, the majority of players don't pay anything, but the small percentage who do tend to spend so much money that it more than makes up for it. So in Mario Run's case, I would say that the very vast majority who didn't want to spend any money aren't that different from most mobile game players, it's the $10 price cap that prevents potential whales from shelling out ridiculous amounts of money because they can't pay any more than that.
@@Ultimate_Charizard Huh, didn’t think of it like that, but it really does checks out! Never even imagined that having a limit to how much you can spend on the game would impact the numbers, cuz I forgot that some people just have so much money to burn.

I keep thinking about making a spiritual successor; my own original IP that clearly follows the Zelda II formula.
They had a winning formula for Zelda II, the only problem was the Zelda name. If it was made under a new IP so no one would compare it to the other Zelda games it would be wildly successful.
Thank you for the honesty, time investment and anti sensationalism. Bring on more Zelda videos!
This is like finding out that tucker carlson started the Luigi is playable in mario 64 rumor
The funny thing about Fire Emblem heroes bringing in so much money is that I just picked up the game and one of my first unlocked characters is the snake god lady that's extremely new to the game. I can't give you specifics because I watched the ad in Japanese and I play the game in Japanese as well as a means of practice
Was not expecting that F-bomb. Excellent work as usual, this was really fascinating!
“Was it true? Was this the cancelled Zelda game?”
Nah there’s no way-
“Of f*cking course not.”
😂
Not surprised Brian had a history of bad reporting even back then.
It's actually hilarious.
"There hasn't been a new Zelda game or even a hint of one for two years at this point" but Phantom Hourglass came out in 2007, the year after Twilight Princess came out
They're talking about in terms of 3D Zelda games I reckoned
This is why people SHOULD think about portable games too instead of just deeming them LESSER
That white ball thing in the GBA tech demo reminds me of Rover from The Prisoner. And I can't believe I'm making that kind of reference.
That's an oddly apt comparison
Looking back on it, Valley of the Flood sounds like it would make for a nice title for a sequal to Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.
19:05 Hope that guy was ok when Spirit Tracks got out, complete with trains.
13:10 yeah to be kind of fair to Nintendo here you can play all the content in their games for free. Mario Kart tour especially since it's just tracks they release every two weeks
That big eye link shown off and on around the 15:30 point is nightmare fuel.
Aw man, a mobile game would solve the problem I have with Tears of the Kingdom, where I can’t cram burgers in my gullet while exploring Hyrule!
It would probably look better too lmao
People say that Zelda mobile took the form of Guardian Tales behind the scenes, the game even has so many Nintendo references like they got the IPs, but it's not developed by Nintendo, but same out the same year that people said it would come out, this makes people believe the zelda mobile game turned into Guardian Tales after Nintendo cut ties with them and scrapped the zelda part of the project, so they reused assets and made it Guardian Tales.
What a coincidence! Just yesterday I was zooming through DYKG’s lasted Zelda videos and thinking that they were all great!
16:46 Yahaha! You found me!
>Journalist creates fake news at 15
>Gets hired by CNN
Ha
It’s like poetry. It rhymes.
This should be added to his Wikipedia page 🤣
Ok maga boy
18:26 just the fact that Miyamoto was "thrilled" by this idea, then you already know that this is fake lol.
Your researches are amazing. I wish I had that much skill. I'm a collector of zelda stuff and currently focusing on cards. If anyone from your team could help me finding information on the amada set and maybe other old cards, it would be a dream come true for me. I'm always looking for these cards and they rarely show up, informations about them seems impossible to find. Still all you show in your video are informations that seems impossible to find, so I guess you're my only hope.
To be fair, I would like to see Zelda II getting a re-make. It's a good game but it just wasn't planned properly. It needs to give better clues to where you need to go & more people will appreciate this classic game.
Good to know that Brian Stelter never fucking changed.
3:33 was not expecting an appearence from this smooth brain.
Would love to see another one of these! Abandoned series deserve more love, and I’d love to see you cover more. Maybe include Klonoa? Despite the recent remasters there hasn’t been a new entry in almost two decades, and I’d love to see you talk about it!
13:05 Never heard the word 'fiduciary' in my life. That's a nice word.
Great video as always !
A wind waker prequel would be neat.
Valley of the Flood was my favorite rumor I wanted it to be real so bad I still think of it often
I never heard of the Zelda 2 rumor. 10:48 Playing the flute on the DS sucked. 16:02 I've heard of this one. I didn't like the idea of playing as someone who wasn't Link. I do like the idea of Zelda being Steampunk and the use of guns.
You can not play FE Heroes and have fun, that is physically impossible.
I only play story mode to grind platinum points and it is a fucking dread to play. I want to stab my eyes out whenever text pops onto my screen. Thank God auto battle exists.
17:38 I don't know how possible it is. but I still think the crazy tale this troller was spinning would be an awesome game if it was done right.
Cheers!
Whoever made that rumor about the steampunk Hyrule should have just written the fanfiction. I would have read it.
Miyamoto truly is a master - even I eat burgers with two hands instead of one. Impressive skills.
The Brian Stelter section is funny
I was pleasantly surprised to see a jab at him, I thought this channel leaned woke.
You guys make the best journalistic work than any site in na
Korok puzzle game that supports AR would be a cool mobile concept.
I always look forward to your uploads, interesting content every time
That's a big burger to eat to just show off your product 11:07
It's 4:45 am and now I want one
"Is it true or false?" Reminds me of Beyond Belief!
im actually surprised they never remade Zelda2. Its main issue is repeating rooms and crude controls, both fixed by a modern remake easily
‘People’ that spent money on that garbage game literally did it to get a closer look at their 2D waifu from a gumball machine.
Damn was not expecting the Brian Stelter lore drop
yep, people complain about loot box style games. but that's what yall want. change the game by changing the demand.
I want Zelda 1 and 2 to get a remake so bad
Good news, Zelda 1 has an official "remake".
3:24 So Mr. Potatohead was fake news from the beginning? HAHAH!
That's Mx. Genderless Potatohead to you!
I would love a Zelda 2 remake/remaster it’s definitely the most underrated
_"The punchline just kinda' wrote itself."_
"Brian Stelter" is the real punchline. XD
Little Brian Stelter 😂😂
Adding to the fake Zelda deluge shit, he says "miyamoto and i" instead of "Mr. Miyamoto". That's completely unlike Mr. Eiji since he's always said "Mr. Miyamoto"
I mourn that we never got an Oracle-trilogy, if only because I'd like Farore to have something for herself... but such is life. Funnily enough, I think this is the only rumour I actually heard of. I guess I've been lucky enough to not come across ANY of the rumours here...
Brian Stelter reporting fake news. How poetic lol
What footage is being played at 4:48? The game doesn't have those sprites.
"Its a secret to everybody."
Conspiracy man in me is saying they've shadow banned this channel for some reason and it makes me sad..
I think the six game rumor is from Ages and Seasons mechanics, one having past and present, the other having four seasons, making 6 whole zelda games!!
Maybe the Zelda app was a real project but was canceled before it was announced?
I'd like to see someone make a Zelda romhack of the golden sun games. That game engine would fit nice for a Zelda 2 remake
What the hell, man
This is definitely one of those "this is why we can't have nice things" situations.
@@buchiklop110 True, when I think about it. What a strange world gaming has become…
I never believed it, but Project Deluge is how I learned the word “deluge” haha
Me too
Wasn’t expecting the CNN crossover
