The genealogy of Jesus: was He the son of David?

In my debate with Rabbi Singer, he brought up the topic of the genealogy of Jesus during our cross-examination. I made a few comments about it, but wasn’t able to provide what I thought was a satisfactory answer in the moment. This can be a big topic to cover when you’re on the clock! So I wanted to take some time here to examine the objection properly. Do the genealogies of Jesus in Matthew and Luke show that Yeshua could not have been descended from King David and the tribe of Judah?
