Thanks for this video, it’s refreshing to hear from someone who creates without inhibitions. I’m attempting to be more relaxed myself and not fret about blobs and blotches, while trying to critique more effectively. I only recently bought my first RJ Hampson book, the hardback version of A Frog’s Tale, and will definitely buy Around the World.
Hi Catherine, thank you for watching and the lovely compliment! I am so pleased to hear that you are enjoying the video, and it is my hope to inspire others to feel more open to experiment with their art supplies and just enjoy the hobby ❤️ and blobs and blotches can sometimes be fun 😁
Oh gosh, so excited to have found your channel what beautiful colorings, and when you said you were heavy-handed I laughed because I can’t believe there’s anyone out there more heavy-handed than myself I’m brutal😂
Your pages are stunning!! You've inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and use other media in my RJ Hampson books, well, all of my books. I also like coloring pages in order. Thanks for sharing. Your video is so useful!!👍🏾
I'm so glad! It can be easy to stick with what you know but it’s good to try other techniques and methods sometimes - even if it only confirms what you like doing 😁 Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much! I’m not too confident at creating a “tutorial” as such, but hopefully by watching me colour and describing what I am thinking and the decision making, it might be useful in some way.
I loved this video Jackie. Such beautiful pages and I love how you show us how water affects the paper front and back. Of course I would love to see how you add colour to a page!!❤❤
Absolutely brilliant Jackie 👏👏 Really enjoyed this video. Loved seeing how you work, and I enjoy hearing the "crinkling" of the pages. I'm going to try the water with the pens I have. I look forward to your next video 🤗 🤗
RUclips suggested this video for me and oh boy! Am I ever glad it did. Your work is amazing. Love each and ever image you have colored. And, I would love to see you color a page.
@@shellycastille4991 oh you will have fun! A Frog’s Tale is a good book 👍 When I get a chance, I plan to do a collection video for my RJ Hampson books and completed pages….I’ve done a few in that book 😊
I really like your approach to colouring because it is the same as mine : heavy handed, no plan but let it just happen in the mood of the moment, lots of texture in the elements and crinkly pages. Plus your videography is good. I can see the pages well, your comments are thoughtful and your voice is well modulated. Subscribed and looking forward to seeing videos of your colouring. Cheers!
I've been admiring your pages on Instagram for ages but I love seeing the 'behind the scenes'. I'm a big fan of texture also- exactly as you shared. the randomness of different mediums used on different papers. I think we share the same philosophy about coloring and enjoying our hobby and having fun with it. wonderful pages... Cant wait to see how you do the rest!
This was such a great video! I have never tried this technique before. And all your pages are so beautiful. You really have done a lot in this book! Thank you so much - love your channel! ❤
One of the reasons I love all markers so much is that they really speed the process up - it satisfies my needs of enjoying the process itself because it’s all about the colour for me, but they can produce good results on a budget and I can get through the many pages of the growing collection of books a little faster 😁
OMG, your book look like my books!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I LOVE when they get messy and banged up,it shows they are loved and that I've had good fun in them. Plus I adore the crinkly sound watercoloured pages make. Yesyesyes, please make a video of you colouring!! Of course now after watching your video I feel like it might be fun to make some videos as well, we could share the process😂😂
Yes! That is a fabulous idea, I’d love to watch how you do your magic (especially with those paint pens 😁). I’m glad you enjoyed it, and that you are a fellow book destroyer! I hope that I might encourage other colourists to have fun experimenting and try using supplies in different ways.
Love your colouring and thank you for your advice!! It is very much appreciated. I would really like how you colour a page. I do struggle a bit with his books
You are so welcome! I hope I’ve given you some ideas to get started in RJ’s books….I tend to think about how childrens books are illustrated when I am colouring his books - lots of bright, vibrant colour and don’t worry too much about perfect shading etc. Just have fun 😊
I couldn't agree more to your inference that you might want to colour whichever way you want to. No such thing as perfect, tbh. Thank you for your honesty and wonderful work. Cheers from Melbourne!
@@spare_room_studio Thank for replying. The spring has touched down in Melbourne. However, the gusty wind doesn't seem to ease soon. Enjoy your spring there... Cheers.
I just found your channel. I love to base with markers so i am gonna watch the rest of your videos to see how you use them. New subscriber over here 😍 i like your go-with-the-flow mentality. I have that as well and i love to experiment.
Awesome! Thank you! I appreciate your support and hope you continue to enjoy the videos where I demonstrate how I colour with water based markers. I will be making a video soon showing how I use alcohol markers too.

Hi Ness, thanks for watching! I’m sorry to hear you’ve had health issues but glad to hear you are returning to colouring ❤️ I’ve been collecting ideas for videos from comments, so I will definitely do a Kerby page when I get time - my current goal is to finish Around the World and then broaden my focus 😁 I hope you find some useful tips because markers are a game-changer in Kerby books, they save so much time and can still create a great page. Take care, happy colouring, Jackie
I really enjoyed seeing your thought process behind how you're approaching this book, Jackie! I've truly enjoyed seeing all your vibrant pages on my IG feed, and now I understand how you're doing it. I love these videos! Thankyou again for sharing your techniques with us 💖💖💖
Thank you for watching Kim! I have an even greater respect for RUclips creators now, it is nerve-wracking putting yourself out there 😂 I am hoping to get better with the whole set-up and have a colouring video soon 😉
Hi 1st i want to say how much I appreciate you taking the time to help us newbie colorers! Id be lost tryingto start a page on my own! Lol Anyways I wanted to tell you I saw a post where a girl discbound all her coloring books. Yes, its time consuming at first BUT You can organize them however you want! I use 2 diff. Size disc, depending on what sie the book is. That way you can take out whatever page your working on, and wont affect the rest of your pages. Some books I leave alone if have thinner paper. For instance I dont do my Creative Haven books. I ALSO found some scrapbook albums at a thrift store and bought extra pages and thats where i keep myfinished pics or close to it. Especially if has textures (glitter etc) so just thought Id share my ideas with ya!
Your coloring is beautiful. I love his books too. Di you have any of the hardcover books? Thanks for the video and the smiles. Lots of rain here today.
No, I don’t have any hardcovers - I like his recent books having the slightly altered second set of images because it gives a bit of choice to which one I prefer to colour first 👍 Thank you for watching and commenting 😊
Hi! I just found you and i like your coloring a lot!! I hear you talking about the finished book and never open it for a while, maybe itis a nice idea to put all your coloring photo’s on a digital photo frame?
That’s an interesting idea 👍 I have the images on Instagram to look at if I feel like going back and checking something, but I don’t even do that very often. I think it’s the process that gives me most joy and once it’s done, I move on to the next picture. Its just using the colours and supplies that gives me a sense of satisfaction and creativity. Thank you for watching and commenting 😊
Yay!!! I’m so excited you finally are doing RUclips 🎉🤗
Thank you for watching! Your support is really appreciated ❤
I think you are amazing in your art and expressing everything to us in such an encouraging way.
Thank you - I hope my approach helps you enjoy your own colouring time more 👍
