Using Prismacolor pencils, gelly roll metallic pens and more markers I complete this page. Thanks to a viewer, I now know Max Brenner is the artist of Alice in Wonderland and not the publisher, and he is an artist who uses traditional and digital techniques to create his art. This is his artist write-up from Amazon: “Max Brenner is an accomplished illustrator and author, specializing in the cre...

Your mermaid page is stunning! She deserves framing ❤️🇦🇺
I have to confess, I had cheated and watched your completed pages video before this part two of Alice. But I needed to come watch this video so I could see how you got to the final results. Once again you have amazed and inspired me. I hope to be able to find a copy of this book.
Thanks Karen ❤️ Even if you can’t find this book, the same ideas can be used in any greyscale books you have 😉 thanks for watching.
All fabulous pages! I especially love all your Alice themed pages, so amazing! Hope you are healing well 🩷
Thanks Deb, I’m hoping I am on the home stretch now 🤞
So many wonderful pages with such a variety of of styles. Your colored pencil work is amazing but I am drawn to the ones with watercolor. Very hard to narrow it down to just one favorite page. My top three are the Morrigan in Goddess, the Mad Hatter in the Max Brenner book, and Alice with her sister in the Charles Santore book. However to choose just one, I thought about which picture I would enjoy looking at day after day. For me I would have to say it's the Mad Hatter.
Thank you so much! I love how we all have different favourites, art is such a personal thing! Thanks for watching, Jackie
beautiful pages Jackie , love your Alice pages and RJ Hampson pages best .
Thanks Louise 😊
Hi Jackie, i want to try out this technique one day…i have to much stuff on the moment, so i want to make them up, especially my waterbased markers.
The good thing about watercolour pencils is that they never dry out or go off! Mine are over 20 years old and work perfectly 😉 Have fun playing and using your stuff!
Thank you sharing! I can't even pick a favorite. I love how much mixed media you use!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful pages Jackie ❤❤
Thank you 😊
Those rooms of wonder pages are so intimidating but you did them beautifully. Enjoyed all your pages.
They certainly are! I do have to be in the mood to colour that book 😉 thanks for watching.
All of your pages are fantastic Jackie. Bright and SO colourful I love all of them ❤❤
Thanks Audrey ❤️
Interesting video, thanks for taking time to flick through and give us a decent look at it. I am one of those who is quite particular about buying from real artists and where I purchase it from too. 😃😃 So I don't need his number anymore.🤣
🤣hahahaha! You have made me laugh! I know how important it is to some people not to buy AI generated content, now at least you can make your own informed decision about whether to buy it or not 👍
Hi jackie I love them all but if I would have to choose one I would choose the girl and the turtle page I just love the simplicity of that page it really spoke to me ❤
Thanks Jackie, I think she might be my favourite too 😉
Beautiful pages! Thanks for sharing 🥰🥰
Thanks so much! 😊
Yeay to letting go of perfectionism. It's a scary word, gosh! Thank you for your confirmation. I was late to your channel, but really greatful for your vids, and food for thoughts from you. Keep doing what you're doing. Cheers.
Welcome to the channel and thanks for watching! I started the channel hoping to share some ideas and thoughts to help others relax and become more comfortable to have fun and experiment with their colouring hobby, and maybe enjoy the “process” over “results”. I feel that once you do that, the results start to naturally happen 😉
Hi Jackie! Thank You for Sharing All of Your Gorgeous Pictures, My Favorite is, All of them! But The Racoons in the Garden Really Stood out to Me! 💜💜
You are so welcome! That was a lot of fun to colour ❤️
I couldn't agree more to your inference that you might want to colour whichever way you want to. No such thing as perfect, tbh. Thank you for your honesty and wonderful work. Cheers from Melbourne!
Thank you, I appreciate you watching. I hope you are finally starting to warm up a little in Melbourne 😉 Spring has definitely sprung in Adelaide!
The girl with the turtle is just amazing. You are super talented!
Thanks so much 😊
Hi Jackie! This is absolutely gorgeous!!! The colorpallete is amazing and sooths this page verry well!!! Thank you for coloring with Faber Castell’s one of my favorites!
Thank you so much! I really enjoyed this pic 😉
Beautiful pages! Thank you for joining #spacetember2024! 😊🚀
Thank you! 😊
Hi Jackie beautiful colouring pages thank you for sharing ❤❤❤😊😊😊xxxx
You’re welcome 😊 glad you enjoyed it
Awesome coloring!
Thank you 🤗
Really lovely pages, I adore your mad hatter page! 😍 ☺
Thanks so much! 😊 He was fun, and I really enjoyed how the background turned out with those alcohol markers 👍
Beautiful pages!! I particularly enjoyed the pirate skeleton page, RJ Hampson’s sense of humour tickles me. The Max Brenner pages are so gorgeously coloured, love the Alice and turtle page and of course the Mad Hatter. It’s great to see the ones you didn’t colour on camera too. Hope you are mending well even if it means a few less pages. Thank you so much for the inspiration to try new colouring techniques. 🤗
Thanks Sarah, I covered quite a variety of mediums, styles and books! As I become more active I might have less pages but hope to keep the videos and variety going! Thanks for watching 😊
Lovely selection of Alice pages, got inspired to get the Marty Noble one! Will catch up on the videos soon, thank you for sharing
The Marty Noble book is a good one, it inspired me to buy another book which I hope to work in on camera soon 🤞
Wow, you have been busy 😊.. i really really like what you achieve with markers , well to be honest i enjoy all your work 😂. Love the mood of your pages in the ai suspect book❤
Thank you, it was a prolific month! Yeah, the AI suspect book causes a bit of conflict for me - I don’t really want to support AI but it was enjoyable colouring those particular pages and there are a few more that I want to colour….
As someone who loves to watch you color, I can say I like that you always explain what you are doing and why. It is very informative especially for those of us who don't really know a lot about using watercolor pencils.
I'm so glad that the videos are helpful 👍 thanks for watching Karen
Absolutely loved this video, will be coming back to it in the future
That’s great to hear! Thanks for watching 😊
Love how your page is turning out❤
Thank you, I’ve enjoyed this book so far even with the greyscale challenge 😊
your work is wonderful i have this book hope to be brave enough to try
Go for it! I’m finding the grey scale challenging but the pictures end up looking pretty good 😊
thank you so much for doing a tutorial in Albrecht Durer's
You are most welcome, I enjoy working with them so it isn’t a chore 😉
Do you have any tutorials with them please? 🥰
@@suzycooper5273 I have a few videos where I have used the Albrecht Durers and other watercolour pencils….check out the Playlist How I use my art supplies - they are not really tutorials but I do explain what I’m doing and why most of the time.
@@spare_room_studio thanks so much, I'll go and have a looksie now.
❤❤❤
ok. Where did you get that coloring book? I am not successful in finding it. I love your videos.
I’ve had this book 3 years and only just working in it 🙄, it was purchased on Amazon Australia.
Hi Jackie! He looks like an evil person, well done, he’s awesome!! I wish i could color like this!! I really like that you put the colors everywhere around, i like to learn that….i tried to color with markers this way, but i don’t like the finished product, when i did that. Maybe i was’nt finished yet, i don’t know. I will definitely try it again. You inspire me, so i keep trying…..
It has taken quite some time experimenting and creating failures to discover my own method of working like this Linda, don’t give up! Often people stop at a “safe” stage and end up with an “okay” result….sometimes it just needs a little something extra to make it come alive. If you are worried about doing this in a book, have some copies made and experiment lots ❤️ With markers you might just need to do a couple of layers to get an intense colour or help blend colours….I find one layer can look patchy.
@@spare_room_studio when i do one layer, i wet the page with the marker and it comes out verry smooth, but i always use pencils on top of that, but i am going to try a PDF only with markers, to try out the way you color this page to see if i like it. For me i am not sure, i love pencils, especially my Holbeins, but i want to learn and get out more of my other supplies….
Absolutely this is AI. It has the style that is very unique to those images. It looks like it may be edited slightly to clean some stuff up, but even barring the numbers on the clocks, there's details I can pick out quickly as an artist that indicate an AI image. Mainly in patterns on clothing, and hair strands that don't make sense. I too picked up a book like this that I ended up deciding had AI. I reached out to the artist (because yes, it is an artist behind it) and they denied it. But there's too many AI quirks in the book to believe the denial. Which is sad because on their insta I saw the original sketches done by them and their sketches were MUCH cuter and had more soul than the AI versions. Essentially he took his sketches and had an AI 'finish' them and add 'complexity' to make them more cluttered. It does seem he at least isn't doing this for his other books, so at least there's that.
Wow! That’s really interesting, thanks for sharing the story. Some people would find that acceptable - I would just prefer that we have the information up front so that know what we are getting and then choose a book that suits us better. Thanks for watching and commenting, Jackie
Yes this is AI. It gives me this queasy feeling which always means AI. It’s like the uncanny valley thing.its a little too real..a little creepy. And it looks like so many others AI books. Some folks are really sensitive to AI…I seem to be. But your colored pages are beautiful
Thanks Candice, I do like some of the images but the whole things has left a bad feeling to be honest.
Thank you Jacki! I appreciate your honesty as well as your knidness.
You are so welcome, thanks for watching.
It's a real shame because I love Alice. Like I had my entire art studio themed in Wonderland and a huge collection of memorabilia, including hand drawn and signed sketches from Disney artists, I collected over thirty years. Unfortunately I lost all of it in a hurricane a few years ago. None the less, I simply can't do the AI, I can't do that to my daughter and the other artists I know. It really burns my buns when books are presented as hand drawn when they aren't, and Amazon couldn't care less. It's almost impossible to get pirated art taken off the site as well, since everything is automated. My daughter has spent weeks trying to get blatant theft of her art removed from listings... including one where they didn't even remove her watermark. I do buy books there frequently simply because there isn't a single bookstore in my entire city.. you just have to be really careful. I'm always thankful to other consumers who post reviews with images and call out the books that are not what they are advertised to be. After a while it's easy to see the tell tale signs and recognize it on sight, but often books are only posted with edited samples or with no samples at all.
I fully understand what you are saying, and I sincerely hope your daughter gets the resolution of that situation as she deserves. It’s becoming more and more difficult to see the “fakery” as AI improves and that is so frightening for it’s implications in many parts of our lives.
Beautiful page❤
Thanks so much!
Thank you for sharing this Jackie. I really love the Mad Hatter pages and while I personally think that AI is going to make more issues than help humanity as a whole (just my own opinion), my main issue when it comes to AI art is the weird inconsistencies. It drives me nuts… like doing an entire puzzle only to find you’re missing a piece at the end. So disappointed about this book… I wish I could just get a pdf of just that mad hatter page to colour lol
I totally agree! I think it would suit many people to be able to pick and choose some images from this book. Some of the images are fun, and some of the smaller errors can be adapted or fixed….but on the whole I think it is unfair not to state upfront if AI is involved.
@@spare_room_studio absolutely, I agree.
When I saw you colour it yesterday, I noticed that it was AI. I thought you must have known. There’s a few tell tale signs. The first is loose curls hair join back up to the head. I just published my first colouring book on Amazon, (it’s all hand drawn) and when I set the book up there was a section to fill out if it was an AI created book or not. So I guess that anyone could be deceitful and say no. ❤️🇦🇺
Interesting! Thanks for sharing your experience. I guess I was trying to be generous in giving the benefit of the doubt with some things because even traditional artists can make some weird mistakes and if the original image is scanned and edited digitally I guess there’s scope for mistakes to be missed if not proficient with digital editing software? But, there are far too many discrepancies as you study the images more closely, and tell tale signs to say AI is not involved. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about this. I agree that if a book contains AI, then it should be noted somewhere either in description or on the cover. This way people can decide if they want to buy or not, knowing that in advance is only fair. That being said, I do still like some of the pages in this book.
And that’s my point of view too…..there’s nothing wrong with liking the images at all, but knowing what you are buying up-front is important. Thanks for watching and commenting 😊
This anime style face is all over AI. I like your coloured pages
Thank you 😊 I’ve noticed this particular creator has a few of the very simplified Kawaii style books that are very popular right now for sale too which is making me wonder how they’ve been created……😵💫
Jackie, I appreciate the commentary and the flip-through. Some of those pages really do look quite nice, but some look like they're straight out of Alice's Nightmare on Elm Street! 😄 ❤ from Texas! 🤠 👢
🤣 there sure is a bit of everything in this one 😉
I'm certain that this is AI generated. Not only is the art style throughout the book inconsistent, the errors you pointed out are telltale signs of AI as well. Here are some other things I noticed that weren't pointed out: 0:56 - Weird arm, headband becomes a bit weird as it meets the side of the head, misaligned mushrooms 1:36 - Stray whiskers coming from mouth, missing toe on one paw? 1:48 - The tiara warps with the head on one side and then bluntly chops the hair off on the other 1:54 - More stray whiskers coming from nowhere 2:12 - AI hates roman numerals it seems 2:54 - Weird arms and janky fingers 3:32 - More misplaced/chopped off whiskers 4:48 - Another stray whisker + hat seems to have a double brim 5:29 - Why is the hat sitting on his ears like that? Looks like the AI couldn't decide whether to give him a bowtie or not 7:32 - Guess what's coming out of his mouth? (spoiler: it's a whisker) 9:09 - I'd be crying too if my fingers looked like that 9:16 - Those teeth are.. interesting 9:36 - I wonder if there's a thumb hiding behind those five fingers 9:41 - Broken wrist & extra long arms 11:03 - Warped arm. At least we moved on from stray whiskers. 11:16 - More interesting playing cards + weird Disney-esque glove 11:35 - wtf is that creature?????? 11:57 - It's hard to see but I'm sure there's something up with the strings on that instrument 12:18 - Are they supposed to have double ears? 12:27 - Ma'am, do you need help holding that fork? There were other things I noticed but this comment would be too long if I pointed out every single flaw. Another way to tell when something like this is AI generated is by looking in places where you'd expect to find symmetry. That's one of the other things I noticed throughout the book that I didn't bother pointing out individually because there's simply too many instances. I hate that Amazon doesn't mandate an AI disclaimer if they're going to allow the sale of these books. I implore people who are interested in adding more books to their coloring book collection to PLEASE support real artists! Don't give your money to people using AI in order capitalize on your hobby with little to no effort for a quick buck.
Thanks for your comment, mandatory AI disclaimers would at least make it easier for people to know what they are purchasing…..AI isn’t going to go away and become more difficult to spot as time goes on.
Thank you!
You do beautiful work in this book but I think your instincts are correct and that it is AI. A butterfly or moth normally has visible legs/feet. That being said, my personal preference is NOT to buy AI generated books. I have numerous Dover and Creative Haven books with a variety of subject matter that came at a very reasonable price point.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and watching the video.
Loving how this is taking shape and hi Hamish ❤❤❤
Thanks Jo, I think Hamish would like to appear more often 🤣
I wouldn’t care, either buy it or don’t
I would because generative AI is bad for the environment and bad for real artists.
As I mentioned in the video, AI generated content is an important issue for some, and that’s why clear listings and descriptions would be appreciated to be able to make informed choice. Thanks for watching and commenting.
So beautiful! 🩵
Thanks Deb, the watercolour pencils were a good choice for this one I think!
I say we send someone to Max Brenner's house. If he has three 3's on his clock, we'll buy his book. You have the eye of the eagle lady!
🤣 maybe it’s just someone’s interpretation of the crazy world Alice found herself in?! Thanks for watching 👍
Oh yes I did think that they should be upfront about it being AI, that way people can choose for themselves.
Thanks for your comment, and I agree 😉
