The fact that these things survive what we do to them is a miracle in itself. People don't realize how far the durability has come with these RCs. Definitely a 15 out of 10 durability-wise. The first Arrmas would not survive a 1/4 of the punishment they do now. Before that, we used to use purpose-built race buggies and truggies to bash and they didn't last more than a few jumps. We sure are spoiled nowadays with these Arrmas and Traxxas for bashing.
Bro you really nailed it…I truly appreciate your thoroughness … I was trying to decide out of the Kraton or the notorious…. Definitely look like I’m going to choose the Kraton. You definitely have a new subscriber. Please keep up the good work.💯💪🏿
It is common. Sometimes we find a set of tires that are well balanced but usually there is some kind of vibration in the system. They usually don’t balance bashing tires from the factory. Race tires yes, bash tires no. That’s our experience. Thanks for commenting 😎👍
Great video. I am thinking about the Outcast 4S to pull off some more stunts. I am somewhat new to RC and loving your videos. I have had issues with the Arrma servos already, so was not surprised there were issues there, but even the cheap $15 servo replacements have done me well so far, and Arrma is very quick to respond and get out a replacement. I was able to get a new Kraton 6S for $503 to the door. Probably more than a newbie should have but I love it, and couldn't pass up the price. My biggest issue with the Kraton 6S is that I now need a bigger ramp as my BMX one is harder to hit with the size of the thing :). Thanks for all the work you do on your videos.
I was back and forth between the two the whole time I was watching the video I thought you were driving to outkast then I realized the kratons the one for me.😘
I'll be interested to see your longer-term review of this model. It seems pretty reliable from your videos but I've also seen a ton of chatter online about weaknesses in the design, similar to the weaknesses in the 3S lineup. Hopefully my suspicions are proven wrong. Thanks for the thorough review!
Our channel has a lot of the 3s rigs from Arrma and they can be durable. Our V1 4s Kraton has held up to some outrageous bashing. I hope this one is as good in that department. Thanks for commenting 😎👍
Now THAT’S the review I’ve been waiting for. Now that’s a tough truck AJ! Awesome to see a new vehicle holding up to the hype. Having a Kraton 8S I’m tempted to go the Outcast route but this 4S Kraton looks awesome Just out of curiosity… How would those tires look in the Talion EXB?? Could work well in that truck
Biggest dilema I have is Teal or Blue ? Nice dilema to have, I suppose I will just have to buy a second body in the other color as well. Great review AJ, I think Arrma are on to a winner with this one. Exciting times ahead for Arrma moving foward, cant wait to see what they come out with next.
Dang namit. I just bought an Xmaxx, thinkin it was "spoze" to be durable. It's broke more then I have got to use it. I could have bought a Kraton and the Outcast for the same moneys. (No sales tax) Thanks for popping my deflated bubble. Lol. Love to see your new vids. There awesome. Thanks. Have Fun.
Awesome review as always. Might be selling my k6s for the k4s. I'm thinking it'll be the better basher for sends, especially with a under mount chassis brace. Am I crazy?
Thanks for this video, I'm considering getting the Kraton 4S V2 then. I have in my fleet the Losi Lasernut and TA Rival MT10, I love the looks of the Lasernut but I am concerned about durability I need to replace the steering bell crank as it's loose and left wheel seem wobbly but still runs well I have no other problems. I'm not a basher just do performance runs on it on flat ground, low to medium height grass field, loose gravel and sand. Also I don't have time fixing taking apart my vehicles and I don't have as much knowledge and I don't much money to spend on RC often as others...I just want to enjoy driving them. With that said should I think about selling my beloved Lasernut and get a Kraton 4S to go with my Rival MT10. Or How about the Fireteam? I like staying in the 1/10 scale though.
Thanks for the great indepth video and your valuable opinions on build of the car. I am leaning towards this over a Maxx as I think it will be more drivable in all locations than a Maxx. Also dont have any Traxxas stuff and the connectors for the batteries etc seem a pain. If you dont mind me asking how has the chassis got on? I have seen a few other reviews they all seem to break them. I know a company now makes a brace, but in "normal" use do you think thats needed. Not planning on launching from a skate park 20 foot onto concrete. Well not all the time anyway :D
Personally I prefer the Kraton over the outcast because of my driving style. For wheelies and big backflips it’s the outcast but for all round bashing the Kraton rules. Thanks for asking. AJ 😎👍
I'm debating between the Vorteks 3S and the Kraton 4S. Which one you prefer or think is the better package? Awesome detailed videos by the way keep up the good work! 👍
As of right now I prefer the Kraton. The Vorteks is awesome but is better on groomed surfaces. The Kraton is better suited for rough, ragged style bashing. Durability has a lot to do with driver style but in our experience both are good. The upgrades in the Kraton add to its overall durability but reckless abandon can defeat the toughest RC. I hope this helps 😎👍
I have the Vorteks and the Outcast EXB. Awesome RC. After seeing this, now I’m looking at the Kraton 4S over the Granite 3S. As he mentioned, the Vorteks is better suited for groomed surfaces.
1. Is it fun? I’ve had mine a week and it’s run a total of 7 minutes. The drive shafts keep coming loose and the screws are backing out. Tighten them back up and they come loose again. Jury is still out on whether this is fun. 2. Durability? So far not good. The drive shafts have issues. The screws won’t stay tight and I’ve now stripped two axles. Also, I wanted to add this, little pebbles will get down in to where the servos are and lock the servo up. We haven’t been able to run the truck for more than 2 minutes without taking the body off and getting the little pebbles out. 3. Is it worth the money. At my LHS this car was about $497.00 out the door. I would say that based on our first week, this car is not worth $497.00. I have owned a number of Arrma cars including the limitless, felony, Mojave blx and exb, Typhon 6s and senton 3s. This is similar to the 3s Senton and we are already having the same issues. In my humble opinion I think Arrma has some work to do on the design. I feel the car may be overpowered for the design of the axles/drive shafts but we will see after it goes back to the LHS for the warranty issues we are experiencing. Is the car fast? Yes. Does it have potential? Will keep you posted on that but for $500.00 dollars and a total of 7 minutes run time, this thing leaves a bit to be desired. I appreciate your upbeat review and the enthusiasm for all the cars you review but this car has been a disappointment like none I’ve experienced in the Arrma lineup.
Thank you for the rundown on your experiences with it. On our side of the keyboard it has been the exact opposite, with the exception of the pebble issue, of course; that's been a 3s issue from the beginning. The 3s cars hate gravel and pebbles. The answer to the pebble issue for us has been flipping the RC over and working the steering a few times, usually the pebble pops out on its own. This does not work every time, but it works often. However, to get back to the subject, our rig is still solid and has not failed yet, and we've beat the heck out of it for battery after battery. Ours is stable, fun to drive, and controllable in the air, not to mention fast. I really wish you were having the same luck with yours. Please keep us posted on your issues, they can be very helpful for everyone who read the comments. Thanks again, AJ
I’m going to put my Vorteks on the market. I was thinking of adding the FireTeam to my fleet. I have Kraton 6s V4, so I’m thinking getting the 4s would be redundant. Other cars in my fleet are the Talion, Mojave RtR, DBXL-E 2.0 and the Felony. Thoughts?
That's a good selection of cars you have. Adding the Fireteam to the list would not be a bad way to go. After some upgrades our Fireteam is fun as hell to drive. I would get my hands on one and have a good look at it before choosing though, because the aesthetics are unique and the shell is definitely something you have to dig. If you get the chance, check out our videos on the Fireteam, perhaps that might help you decide. Still, we have one, and we really enjoy it. Thanks for asking, AJ
AJ, I’ve seen the videos which has helped to lean in on interest in the rig. Horizon has a sale on it and others that ends today, so I purchased one for $520 before taxes. Thank you again for the informative videos and personal advice.
Hey I want to get into the hobby and have been looking at this car or the granite. Witch one do you think would be better for me? Love the videos and keep up the great work!
I can only ask a couple of questions and then let you decide which suits you. 1) Which kind of RC is your style? Street? Bashing? Racing? 2) Where are you planning on running this RC? The thing is, how and where you run it matters, and since we do not know each other and I have no idea of your desires, driver style, or needs, I cannot directly answer this question. So, here's what we can do... The Kraton is fast, stable, and controllable but requires 3s or 4s for operation. The Granite is a short wheelbase RC with a 2s and 3s drivetrain. For speed and control the Kraton wins. For backyard bashing and small ramp action the Granite does fine, but is not in the same league as the Kraton 4s. Best of luck deciding.
10/10 for durability? Despite the servo beginning to fail so soon and other channels having shown it has issues with the slipper clutch housing collecting dust and dirt.
We do not use other channels for our ratings. We only go by our own personal experiences with the RC. Plus, keeping the dust out is a simple matter. And the electronics on any RC can give up. And yes, 10 of 10 for durability. Thanks for asking 😎👍
@@sambagogo777 Yes 10 out of 10. You watch too many basher channels and think that's the way these RCs are supposed to be driven which is farthest from the truth. They are far more durable than RC cars were 10 years ago. Servos break in all RTRs, keeping the dust out is a maintenance thing, not a durability thing. Anything will break the way we bash these RC cars. The fact that they even survive a skatepark bashing to run another day is incredible.
Great review! I have been driving my brothers Typhon 6S (only on 4S batteries) - racing and bashing and I am now wanting a car for my self. I want somthing different than him, but something that can compete with the Typhon racing on 4S and maybe something that does not require as smooth a surface as the Typhon. I have this Kraton 4S in mind as the cheaper option, but I am also considering the Kraton 6S or the Talion 6S. What are your thoughts? :)
To stay along with the performance of your brother’s Typhon I would go with the Talion. It can hang with the Typhon but get it off road and will take the Kraton tires when bigger is needed. My thoughts only. Good luck choosing. 😎👍
For me, the stock radio just isn’t all that comfortable. With some work it can be setup properly but I prefer on the fly adjustments, which the stock radio simply does not have. Instant end point setup, dual rates right where you can get at them, push button binding. These are not required for play, but really nice to have. Thanks for asking 😎👍
I’ve got a discontinued team associated RC8.2e 1/8 buggy that I broke and can’t get parts for. Reedy electronics are still good. 2000kv brushless motor, SC1000-BL esc and XP2G radio. I’ve also got 2 5200 mah, 35C 4s lipos. I want to get a Kraton to do some “average” bashing on my acre lot. Question is should I go for the 1/8 EXB roller and use my 4S electronics or just get the 4S RTR for the same price? I really have no desire to go to 6S given I have parts for 4S and I think 4S is plenty fast for what I’m doing. Any advice is much appreciated!
Good question. Since the roller is an 1/8th scale RC, this will give you the option of jumping it to 6s when you want to; just buy the electronics to do so. However, for the money we would choose the 4s RTR. It is ready to go and balanced from the factory to operate properly, especially for general purpose bashing. The EXB roller, which is the 1/8th scale RC, is awesome and fully upgradeable with loads of options, so there's that to consider. The EXB also has three diffs which gives more adjustability in the long run for tuning and such. Both paths are good ones. As always, the choice is yours. Please let us know which you chose and why. Thanks for asking. 😎👍
@@AJJAMStudios Thank you for the reply. One more question.. is the 6S platform generally more time consuming to maintain and replace broken parts? I used to love wrenching on these things but time is limited now so I want something easy to maintain.
@@AJJAMStudios I ended up deciding on a Kraton 6S EXB! I’m really happy with my decision so far. It took some experimenting with pinion gears for my older 4S power system but I think I’ve got it dialed in for now with a 14T. Eventually I will get a 6S power system but it’s still a lot of fun and will still wheelie at times. I love the size, suspension travel and ground clearance for my rough acre yard. My Team associated 1/8 buggy was a lot of fun too but the way the Kraton just rips across the yard is so cool. Your channel definitely helped me decide. I have the RPM wing mounts on the way and will continue to add the parts you recommend as I feel they are needed. Thanks again!
Good video! I’m still asking myself wich one Outcast 4S or Kraton 4S…. Grrrrr i’m gonna have to get Both loll! Seriously, i have until Friday to make up my mind! :-)
I picked up the blue outcast 4s v2, these slt3 controllers are junk. I'm going to order one of these kcrc ramps this week. Kinda pricey but convenient. Break down for transporting and adjustable for different heights. Check em out if haven't heard of em
Good question. I think the 4s is tougher out of the box. But the raw power of the 6s is undeniable. They both handle good, but I think the 4s is a bit more nimble. However the BLX has more options and is tunable with center diff oils. I guess I would go with the 4s due to the cost. Thanks for asking 😎👍
4s is the number of cells in the battery, dictating how much voltage the system has to work with. 6s has 6 cells. Each platform has a voltage limitation due to it's internal mechanics and electronics. 4s does not mean slow, if it is run in a 4s car. However, running a 4s battery in a 6s, or 6 cell, car will be slower than the 6s battery. You should check out RC batteries 101 in our 101 playlist. That should help you. Thanks for asking. 😎👍
It might be, we don’t usually pay attention to what others are using. I do know Kevin subscribes to the same service we do for our music, so it’s possible. We choose the music we dig, no matter who may use it. Thanks for asking 😎👍
The fact that these things survive what we do to them is a miracle in itself. People don't realize how far the durability has come with these RCs. Definitely a 15 out of 10 durability-wise. better body clips: Traxxas TRX3934A from traxxas. slightly smaller, real good for arrma 3s too.

Both are easy to maintain but I prefer the 6s systems best. But you cannot go wrong either way. For me the choice is evenly balanced. 😎👍
Nice vid 👍
Good video! I’m still asking myself wich one Outcast 4S or Kraton 4S…. Grrrrr i’m gonna have to get Both loll! Seriously, i have until Friday to make up my mind! :-)
Outcast for stunting, Kraton for performance. It's always a struggle to decide. Best of luck. AJ
I had heard poor experience with chassis breaking, I have seen aftermarket chassis strengthening bars, do you think these could be worth it.
Durability is a good thing. If it does not add too much weight the I would say yes.
Which servo do you recommend?
thinking of getting this where is the best place, thanks
Direct from Horizon or your local hobby shop.
Liked and subscribed.
no speed pinion?
I picked up the blue outcast 4s v2, these slt3 controllers are junk. I'm going to order one of these kcrc ramps this week. Kinda pricey but convenient. Break down for transporting and adjustable for different heights. Check em out if haven't heard of em
Good to know. Thanks 😎👍
Would you prefer the 6s blx kraton or the 4s kraton
Good question. I think the 4s is tougher out of the box. But the raw power of the 6s is undeniable. They both handle good, but I think the 4s is a bit more nimble. However the BLX has more options and is tunable with center diff oils. I guess I would go with the 4s due to the cost. Thanks for asking 😎👍
@@AJJAMStudios thank you for the great response. Its tough to decide between the raw power of the 6s or the durability and nimbleness of the 4s.
That one Landing had to have bent the motor mount
So far…no damage.
What lipo do you run in it
my friend got one and broke his A arm on his first run, then his steering servo on the second run. is currently waiting for parts.
wow all these places look familiar what city is this in?
At the time we were visiting Spokane.
@@AJJAMStudios Thats what I thought foreal i could feel the energy and was like that seems like my home town of spokane I live in. No joke
Can someone explain to me what the 4S 6s and so on, is telling about a car?
4s is the number of cells in the battery, dictating how much voltage the system has to work with. 6s has 6 cells. Each platform has a voltage limitation due to it's internal mechanics and electronics. 4s does not mean slow, if it is run in a 4s car. However, running a 4s battery in a 6s, or 6 cell, car will be slower than the 6s battery. You should check out RC batteries 101 in our 101 playlist. That should help you. Thanks for asking. 😎👍
@@AJJAMStudios Thank you so much👍🏼
Isn't that the same band that Kevin Talbot always plays?
It might be, we don’t usually pay attention to what others are using. I do know Kevin subscribes to the same service we do for our music, so it’s possible. We choose the music we dig, no matter who may use it. Thanks for asking 😎👍
Anyone know what servo he upgraded to?
I’ll put a link in the description when I get a chance. AJ
i want this now xD
So is it under 5 or over 5hunderd?
We’re seeing it at under 500.
Where can we see your list of current TOP 10?
There’s a list coming Thursday. It’s in the new On the Block segment. Check it out. 👍
Can one 4s battery be used on this rc or has to be 2???
We run only one 4s
It looks like if your thinking of buying a big rock and making it 4s just buy the kraton 4 s cheeper than modding to 4 s.
I'm buying all the 4S gear from Jenny's and sticking it in my Granite
Wow, have fun with that. I’m sure it will be a handful. Awesome 👍
