#1 reply. The pinion gear is cheap and needs a hardened pinion added almost immediately. Like, order the pinion when you order the truck. Sketer for the win!
Definitely if you're a avid rc guy . I should've bought one instead of these guys . Just I built the same principle truck with arrma , other than having collection waste of money on plastic rcs because they will never perform as well as buggy truggy center diff rc . I guess like razor said they not intended to tune or change , just a grab go rc .
I think you nailed it. I have a Kraton but haven't sent it - no huge jumps in my usual spots. Most of the reason I bought the Kraton over the Outcast to start was because of the sability. I'd bet to keep weight down they didn't thicken the Kraton chassis - which for huge sends is going to be a downside Awesome review, agree on every single point. I love this truck and can't wait to get an Outcast for the massive sends.
How to set better brakes sir. I was testing mine for the first time today on snow here in the arctic but i feel it is a bit slow on the break. I guess it is set at 50% from factory. Great videos you have. I have learn alot about cars here since i only fly planes and copters.
I blew the center drive shaft out of mine in 2 days. They should’ve went aluminum. The plastic splines do t hold up. This thing is a torque monster. Wheelies on demand all day long
That was a great review! 👍 I purchased one from my LHS a few days after release. It's a beast. So far my only issue has been battery and ESC wire routing. I don't like how there's no slack between the ESC and motor with the ESC on top of the receiver box. I also had that battery splitter jumper detach from the strap clips and tangle with the center driveshaft. Ground down the connector and cut my shaft in two. My replacement shaft arrives today. I'm looking forward to more run and wrenching videos! 😀😆😆😀
I thought the same thing, I didn’t like how taught the ESC/motor wires were, you can actually move the ESC down to the bottom of the chassis right next the receiver box, theres already mounting holes there that the ESC and on/off fit perfect in, just need to get the right size screws.
Perfect review as well as all your reviews, enjoy to watch it. What in your opinion, is the really bench mark in 4S category, maybe the E5HX-4S. The biggest issues what I have with my Outcast 4S V1 is the clutch and rear diff so a middle diff I would prefer over the slipper clutch. Cheers, please make more and more videos ....
Would you mind doing a video on upgrading the servo saver, I’d also like to know which one you would recommend. Thanks for the content, have a good one bud.
My Outcast will be here.... eventually. Stupid Fedex. Was supposed to be here tomorrow, now I have to wait til TUESDAY. I already ordered a new servo for it so I can use a Treal servo saver, as I've heard lots of complaints about the stock servo saver. Soooooo looking forward to it.
Hello and Thankyou for the review. what would you recommend for servo an servo horn upgrade? An would the Hobbywing Max8 combo be good for this? Thankyou for your time
Another great review, i have an Outcast v2 on order from my local hobby shop, be a month or more before we get it here in Austraila. Be interesting to put it up against the Maxxes
Iv'e now had the Outcast for 3 week and have been loving it, not as tough as the Maxes, they are tanks, but the Outcast has been great fun thus far dude.
Awesome review thanks Razor. I’m gonna be purchasing a 4S really soon. My votes are for the Sketer and the Kraton. What would you recommend? I’d like to buy both but realistically one is enough. Thx Razor.
Would love to see your review of the slipper clutch, we've been having alot of problems with it. Outside of the chassis problem (replaced twice in 3 weeks) the clutch is a big problem. For me, the chassis always Snaps where the control arm ties in. The plastic snaps and exposes the metal rod. Thus, a new chassis is the only option (downfall).
Excellent review. Especially so the section on durability which was very thorough. Another RUclipsr embarrassingly awarded this RC a 10/10 rating for durability, lol.
I've got a discontinued team associated RC8.2 1/8 buggy that I broke and can't get parts for. Reedy electronics are still good. 2000kv brushless motor, SC1000-BLesc and XP2G radio. I've also got 2 5200 mah, 35C 4s lipos. I want to get a Kraton to do some "average" bashing on my acre lot. Question is should I go for the 1/8 EXB roller and use my 4S electronics or just get the 4S RTR for the same price? I really have no desire to go to 6S given I have parts for 4S and I think 4S is plenty fast for what I'm doing. Any advice is much appreciated!
It may not be that the chassis is weak, it has such a wide stance that if lands flat from 20ft in the air the shocks cant slow it down. Its as if the chassis is taking all the impact.
I wonder if the broken chassis is due to the squared off cutouts. If they were made round or dremeled to be round I think there might be less of a tendency to crack. Kind of surprised they did that because it’s generally known in engineering to cause an instant weak point.
What is that brace for by the battery? I cant get my battery to sit in it correctly. The battery wires dig into it. I took it off, so battery wires don't chaff against it. Using the Spectrum battery's. I tried flipping the battery upside down and still same issue!
Is the brace adjustable? Wondering if removing a little bit of the slack would help the chassis. Looking closely at this truck, I have an OG non wide Max and this looks like it will be a lot more fun with less traction rolling.
the main problem for the Kraton 4s v2, the chassis is longer, that create more weak point for break, the OutCast the chassis is short that reduce the problem, that main differents
I find it really disappointing that they didn't include the AVC enabled TX/RX setup like on the 3s line. Seems like a step backwards. I suppose that was to keep the price down though.
Thanks for the review! I was patiently waiting for this. That is crazy you having the chassis problems. You didn’t mention the slipper much as compared to other brands using center diffs in this video, so I’ll take it the slipper is comparable to a center diff? It is a really good looking truck. Thanks again.
Slipper in this truck has been working great. Like I said in my Outcast video, it acts as a traction control device in dirt. It would steer better with a diff though, that’s part of why it doesn’t want to turn that well.
Solid review although I find myself wondering which other truck(in class) did worse than three broken chassis. Seems like Fun factor/Likability would be another usefull catergory because no matter how much value, durability, and performance a truck brings the one that is the most fun may still be your favorite. Personally had to pass on a big air truck AGAIN because there is no clear winner. Arrmas look like they have the best handling in the air, Associateds have the best handling on the ground, and Traxxas has the best durability(usually.) Still looking for a truck that brings it all together.
Thanks, I've thought a lot about adding a Fun factor, but so far haven't because 1) what's fun is pretty subjective and different for each person. For some, it's really about durability, i.e. if they're breaking a lot it's not fun. 2) I figured out the cars that are the most fun for me are the ones I have absolute control over, which is really close to the Performance category. It's not exactly the same, but it's pretty close. I might still add it one day, thanks for the suggestion.
The center brace meeds preload on the rubber damper. Unscrewing the rear rod end and slidding a 6s bearing bushing will do it. Because how it is right now the rubber bushing is doing nothing. Ur bassicly running the trucks like if the chassis brace wasnt installed thats how bad it is if you ask me
I think those broken chassises weren't really the car's fault I watched some videos and I've noticed that there is lots of stones on the tracks especialy on that mountain one and you've been jumping it well over 15f into the air the car maybe just bottomed out on the stone and punctured through the chassis. And the 2nd one I think that was the nosedives you did 😂 I'm not trying to hate I just think that this might be the case why it breaks so easily
Could be, but like I said in the video, I have pretty much EVERY 3S, 4S, and 6S monster truck you can buy and take them to the same spots and they don’t break, so…?
@@RazorRC the Kraton has a flat chassis. The Traxxas Maxx has like a bow so there is no way to puncture by the stone. We will see how the Outcast chassis hold up after time so might be the stones or you've been just really unlucky
The lack of options for the servo saver is terrible. The kimbrough 124 develops excessive slop with time the arrma ones are way too soft. Arrma making an Heavy dury version but only 23t spline. For the 80% of arrma 3-4s owners our trucks will keep running like pigs
its a great truck with a good price if you dont yeet it off ramps 40 feet in the air and slap the chassis with the force of god on the ground. traxxas max is over priced as with all traxxas stuff.
@Razor RC bro I fully apologize for my comment!!! Got my kraton 4s Saturday, ran it for 15 mins around my apartment parking lot. Jumped a couple sidewalks and boom. After the 8" jump from the sidewalk. Broke both front control arm mounts. I'm so bummed. Do u know of a way to prevent it? Upgraded parts. Love my senton, it's bulletproof but the kraton really disappointed me.
It has nothing to do with a chassis being plastic or aluminum. The Maxx is plastic and it's the most durable one out there, I guess you missed that part of the video. The Sledge is the only aluminum one I complained about, and that's because it sucks. Everything else is fine.
@@RazorRC maybe it’s the batch of plastic or something cause I’ve sent mine 104ft and 55ft high so far and regularly around 60ft and haven’t broken one
