    Johann Bach (1604 - 1673):
    SEI NUN WIEDER ZUFRIEDEN
Johann Bach was born in Wechmar, Thuringia. Later he became a town musician in Erfurt. From 1636 he was organist of the Predigerkirche there.
There is some doubt whether this motet is actually by Johann Bach. The assumption is primarily based on the fact that the initials 'J.B.' is written on top of the first page. The motet may also have been written by Jonas de Fletin, who was cantor in Arnstadt and a pupil of Heinrich Schütz. The copyist of the manuscript is known to have worked for Fletin.
    Sei nun wieder zufrieden,
    meine Seele,
denn der Herr tut dir Guts.
    Denn du hast meine Seele
    aus dem Tode gerissen,
    meine Augen von Tränen,
    meinen Fuß vom Gleiten.
Ich will wandeln für den Herrn
    im Lande der Lebendigen.
    Ich glaube! Darum rede ich.
    (Psalmen 116, 7-10)
    Now again be content,
    my soul,
for the Lord does good things for you.
    For you [Lord] have snatched
    my soul from death,
    my eyes from tears,
    my foot from slipping.
I will walk in the Lord's presence
in the land of the living.
I believed, therefore have I spoken.
    (The Psalms 116, 7-10)
    Collegium Vocale, Gent
    Directed by Philippe Herreweghe

It must certainly have been a great time !
I've just heard Collegium Vocale perform the B minor mass in London,
which of course was a great experience.
The 'great' Peter (Kooij) was also there. Was recorded by BBC.
    Best wishes, Niels

That's right, but this motet is not by Johann Sebastian. It is attributed to Johann Bach, who was a brother of Sebastian's grandfather.

You are right that the following text (Psalm 116,7) appears in both works:
"Sei nun wieder zufrieden, meine Seele, denn der Herr tut dir Guts."
    Best wishes, Niels

yes, sorry, I thought - because of not reading properly - about the cantata BWV 21 "Ich hatte viel Bekümmernis". The motet is part of it.
