LIVE during a CD recording session in Beaufays (BE) 7-9-2013
    Johann (Christoph ?) Bach
    1732 - 1795
    (Canticum Simonis)
often attributed to Johann Sebastian Bach! but the attribution is uncertain and we (Vox Luminis and Jerome Lejeune) belong to the group that rather attributes this piece to Johann Christoph.

This ensemble is my absolute favorite. In addition to having such a present and full sound (especially for so few singers), they are SMART. Their line and musicality are amazing, and every single singer is very highly skilled - you can't hide in an incredible ensemble like this. Bravi!

Exquisite. Impeccable. Beautiful tuning, phrasing, diction, color. Loved the chorale soaring over all.

Johann Christoph Bach (6 December 1642 - 31 March 1703) refers to the first cousin once removed of JS, not to his son.

Johann Christoph Bach !!! Johann Christoph Bach (baptised 18 December [O.S. 8 December] 1642 - 31 March 1703) was a German composer and organist of the Baroque period. He was born at Arnstadt, the son of Heinrich Bach, Johann Sebastian Bach's first cousin once removed and the first cousin of J.S. Bach's father, Johann Ambrosius Bach. He was also the uncle of Maria Barbara Bach, J. S. Bach's first wife and second cousin. Johann Christoph married Maria Elisabeth Wiedemann in 1667. They had seven children, including four sons who became musicians:[1] Johann Nicolaus (10 October 1669 - 4 November 1753), Johann Christoph Jr. (29 August 1676 - 1738), Johann Friedrich (1682-1730), and Johann Michael (1685-unknown). He is not to be confused with Johann Sebastian Bach's son, Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach.[2]

Groeten.

    The "Johann (Christoph ?) Bach
1732 - 1795" is not THAT ONE, but the uncle Bach's from Eisenach, organist at the Georgenkirche, 1642-1703.
But I don't believe in the theory here. Maybe the base of the motet, but not the essence.
Anyway, "perfect" interpretation, intimist and musical

    first part:
(Mein Jesu) Ich lasse dich nicht, du segnest mich denn - (My Jesus) I will not let You go, unless you bless me.
second part: (hymn while the first words are repeated)
Weil du mein Gott und vater bist - Since You are my God and Father,
dein Kind wirst du verlassen nicht - You will not leave your child
du väterliches Herz - Your fatherly heart!
Ich bin ein armes erdenkloss - I am a clod of earth
auf erden weiss ich keinen trost - I don't have comfort by any earthly thing

And about my comment 9 months ago (bellow), the concept is the same, only in English.
But about J. Christoph, are you indeed thinking on Bach's son, 1732 (Leipzig) - 1795 (Bückeburg)? But this one even less as author. In addition, he should be mentioned by J. Christoph Friedrich Bach - not by J. Christoph Bach only.

Right - IF this is by Johann Christoph, this is the right one :-) - that is the son of Johann Sebastians great uncle. Johann Christoph had a brother: Johann Michael, who became father in law of Johann Sebastian. Both were excellent composers.
