I skipped to the end for you guys....He’s moving to onlyfans.
He is starting a twitch channel!!!
He will be a top 5% creator in no time!
Onlyfans? I mean Gene only or Sam too? If so I'll pay that shit
Finally!
@@lemmor6791civ Aaaand he's banned, time to switch to youtube streaming with no explanation for the ban.
Ask Carrie if she wants to film for the vlog channel. The life of Potato Jet as viewed from the other side.
hiring Dylan better than donating to charity, all the way, swallowed a tear seeing friends working together with friends, keep it up
the whole traveling the country with the van thing is actually a great idea!
It depends on the amenities. You could spend $150,000 or $1,500,000 and feel like you're in a rolling luxury suite with heated tile floors, washer & drier, and a king size bed. That thing will get small really fast.
This really spoke to me. I'm a full time father and attorney who also makes RUclips videos. Although they aren't very good yet, I love making them and learning. I'm so happy that you have somebody like Kari behind you encouraging you. I know I couldn't do what I do without my wife. I think this channel will definitely reach 1 million subscribers. I also think it is a great idea to use the profits from this channel to bring Dylan on. I think that is great for you mentally, but also I think it will help this channel grow. Before you know it you will be donating to great causes again, but this time more than ever before. I can't wait for that course.
A life partner is a game changer. It definitely comes through in Gene's videos that he is surrounded by great people, not the least of whom is Kari.
🤎🤎🤎
The Rad Dad Chad awesome! Keep it up, i just started my channel with only 22 subscribers but i have my wife behind me. I left my corporate career to pursue my dreams which is travel the world with my wife and make videos.
@@FPavcovich I am happy you are pursuing your dreams and that you have your wife supporting you. I went after my dream of going to law school 9 years ago. I couldn't have done it without my wife. Best of luck to you!
If you're taking requests? I'd ask you to take a break, rest up, and feel rejuvenated. You've put more enjoyable content out by way of both channels than almost any other content creator on the platform, all while dealing with personal loss and a move. Don't break yourself for RUclips.
7:35 It's not "if", it's "when". You WILL hit 1 million on both channels!
Also I'm glad that you're keeping someone you know to edit the vlogs. Too many times I've seen smaller RUclipsrs hire random people and then it just doesn't have the same "small" vibes as before. I mean, you said it yourself when you started the vlogs, it feels different and a bit more personal than your main channel.
Dylan looks like a hilariously serious dude to chill with.
Dude, you are building a media empire. Just like Linus Sebastian has Linus Media Group, you're gonna have Potato Media Group.
Lol but he still needs to dream higher , and there is a problem and it's that filmmaking have only so much to show to people he can't have the same amount of content as lmg does .
Id love to check out your course Gene! Looking forward to it! Keep it up!
I’ve always wondered, do you pay Sam or is he an indentured servant
Me too we want ans😭
The first time when I saw potato jet I thought Sam was Gene's brother 😂😂😂😂
I think this question needs some answering
Love your vlog the best.
of course he gets payed
Can’t wait to take the course. BTW, different video, but the unicycle bit at the beach about killed me. 😂😂
Heck yeah!!!🙌 That was a great idea getting more people to help with everything on your plate and it's great for the viewers as well because it'll be more long-term sustainable content!! Keep it up!!😁
I am super stoked, thats awesome he is coming back and that he is going to take on the vlog channel. BEST NEWS OF 2020 SO FAR!!!! LITERALLY. 😆
I may have to use that sticky not idea to start organizing things. I also have a better time organizing something on a board than on a screen. Helps with the vision, then you can focus better on putting it into fruition.
Glad Dylan is back!...As for what I’d like to see in the course, I guess something on nailing exposure in different settings and lighting.
Goes from having Dylan miss his flight and stay one extra day last visit, to having Dylan move back after second visit. Brilliant! Welcome back Dylan! =)
You might have a problem when you start thinking of money in terms of how many ND filters you could buy with it instead.
RUclipsr exchange rate 🤣
It happens with every profession.
I was sooo close to getting that vlog editing gig! Gene doesn't know me and never thought of me, but I feel like I was sooo close!
Couldn't agree more about Carrie's comments on seeing all the United States. We have such a diverse and wonderful country with so much natural beauty.
Love learning about your post-production organization, for example, AE workflow.
Great way to organize, Gene! I’ve tries doing it digitally also and it’s hard to make it work. I’m going to use your ideas.
Lmao, Dylan's looking at his phone at the end like "When's this heatwave going to end.. Yeah, 2-3 weeks and I'll move back to LA"
You have to look what is best for you! Really happy you are doing what you want and I'm already interested on the course. Have you think about editing your videos on 2:1 aspect ratio? They will look amazing
I hope it all works out bro.. I am definitely looking forward to the course.
I took your other two courses and it left me hungry for more because it was all facts, real processes, real world this-is-how-it’s-done. What I am still looking for is scenarios based on previous actual shoots that include some that were “classic” and easy and perhaps something where things went wrong and how it was dealt with. Use the PJ channel for teasers on the progress of the course which will allow using allotted time twice and give everyone a chance to understand what the course will do for them.
This ia a great idea!! I would really be interested in some good advice on microphone settings and sound design.
aha love this channel. Glad you also got Dylan back. Look forward to all the vlogs coming up!
Would be interesting for some of the business side of filmmaking included in the course.
in your course i'd love to hear more about framing shots and lighting. Most people speak about how to light a talking head shot and explain how to diffuse and control light. But nobody talks about how to light different shots and how to come up with unique cinematic framing for specific types of shots
The sticky note boards are pretty powerful and used in software development (or virtually using Jira software). There is a development methodology called Scrum that uses post its to break each software function down and keep track and organized week by week. It can be adapted to almost any workflow, if you are feeling the post it notes you should check it out.
yes.. i want to see you guys travel the country and live out of the van!
excited to have Dylan back ✌️
loving your vlog channel same as the main channel.
ur post-it wall idea was the last thing i needed to stop procrastinating.. i find it too difficult to organize thoughts/ideas inside a digital space too..
really excited about the course.
Hey Gene, I loved the first course, the things I would love to see in course 2 is youtube mindset and how to come up with ideas. Thanks
I love how your employing your friends!!! I’d love to do that for my friends someday. I’d also love to have friends someday.
I stumbled on this after seeing some of your videos where you bought one. LOL. As I mentioned in some of my comments on those videos, I am a full time Van-Lifer. Welcome to the RV club. Haha
I would love to learn about color grading and the different settings on the camera, iso, shutter speed and stuff like that
PotatoJet has a Course on Udemy!
90% of all Harley’s ever made, are still on the road... the other 10% made it home 😂
Cool! Good to see that you will have a bit more support.
Just remember to have an exit plan if things get tense because you might end up burning a good friendship instead of just losing an employee.
Check your voltage regulator is tight on the frame (at front of frame behind front wheel, about the size of an aputure MX light with fins on it). If its loose then your battery will not charge as it earths through the frame.
3:38 "Then we'll have to KARI it" what she meant is she's carrying our potato boy almost all the time xD.. we love karriiiiii
Id love to see how you colour correct and grade to get that clean look you get!
Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos! Loved watching every single one of them! Excited for the course you are coming up with!
I'm really excited about your course. You make this technology very approachable. Keep it going....
Gene: “ WHAT!! $150 for a tow!!!!”
Also Gene: “ hey Keri check out this USED computer chair I got for only $800”
Didn't you just hear how much they wanted for the one bedroom apt? Its California bub, nothing's cheap.
I am SO excited for your course! I know this is kind of a niche topic but I would love if you could talk about working with brands and making money on RUclips.
What's up Gene! I love the sticky note idea and I'm glad it's helping you but I wanted to suggest an additional/alternative method to help; I've been getting into Bullet Journaling and it's helping out with managing... Everything! You should look into it if you haven't already. Keep up the awesome work!
I love how you laid this out with sticky notes. I struggled with time management as well, but I'm going to adopt this system and see if it helps me too! Love your videos bro! 😎
Your hustle is amazing! Learning to delegate will definitely help you in the long run. This has helped me in my normal 9-5. Photography and some video work is my side hustle. Please never get rid of the vlog. It's my favorite thing on RUclips. Kari is a saint!
Gene, this was great👌🏻 I would pay for a course that included short and simple assignments given and then either you go live to present and discuss the submissions, or you record your feedback on these submissions. All this to get everyone who wants to get started to take action and start creating.
Dude. You’re the best. Thanks for putting out such quality content.
I’ll put my physio explains: headaches. To the top of my queue 👍🏻
Really happy for you! I’ve been a follower since the big bang.
Awesome that you'll bring Dylan back on! Although I was secretly hoping that there will be a job offering that I could apply to... 😁
I'd love to see in the course a deep dive into exposure. How do you expose correctly, how do you expose x stops over/under, how do you expose for different LOG profiles (expose for certain % middle grey), ...
I don’t know if you covered it, but how to create lighting in any situation. How to control it, diffusion etc.
Hey Gene you should consider getting a pair of blue light blockers for editing crunches. I keep mine on my desk and just toss them on whenever my eyes get strained.
Suggestion for your course;)
It would be cool if you talked about some technical stuff like bit rate. Why it matters and why every mirrorless camera doesn’t do 16 bit. Also stuff like why 1080p from an old Arri Alexa is about as sharp as 8k from a phone.
Yeah it's tough to balance everything. I've been trying to find the right combination with my channel as well, with a "more than full time" job that's very demanding. Glad to see you've got a Harley to help you keep your sanity :) Love your videos - I usually watch Potato Jet.
Hey buddy, thanks for this video. I have a problem with my organization too. Your post-it wall really helped. I'm going to be using something like that too :)
First off, I must admit that I’m very excited to purchase/support your new course. Your older ones leveled up my game by 10x because of you!
Anyway, in the new course, I’d like to see some gaffing stuff from small to medium sized projects and also business related stuff like finding clients/leads, marketing, etc.
Set lower the responsiveness and the speed of the AF on the A7S III. You can also configure the "stickyness" of the AF tracking. It will work better for vlog usage. Big thumbs up for more vlogs!
Hey Gene! As always, interesting and entertaining. BTW, were you using a new camera for this vlog? Or, did you change your presets/colour grade process? The colours didn’t look at all like your usual tones.
Cheers - and good luck with the time management!
Maybe how the audio recorder works. Something like the process of how audio is set up then switched over to a computer to get edited and added into the cut
I would be great if you also add the starting of your career, what hardships you went through and pro cons of an solo filmmaker etc.
Could you do a video pr a segment in the course of how to start in the industry. From the lighting and camera side of crew.
I really want to see you hitting one million.... And see a vlog saying that Hy guys i got the van and we are traveling all of North America ☺️
The post it’s are actually a really good idea! And it’s definitely hard to manage time while making RUclips videos, so I hope you’re able to fit it all in! Also, I can’t imagine how rough that full day of editing was, I love editing but that’s a long day! Keep it up Gene!
Also this channel will definitely hit 1 million subscribers. I have learned a lot from both channels. I agree with someone who commented earlier “Potato Media Group” in the making!
Got to say I really dig this video. Currently I’ve been working way more between my day job and my brand. This breakdown was really insightful and is something I’ll be trying out with the blank space in my wall 😂
Shot composition and sequence composition should be in the course (i.e. how to take and use different types of shots and explain their purpose)
You couldn't find a V-mount plate for the Harley???
I think you should go over step-by-step on filming a scene the camera angles composition sound also how to do a running gun shoot
I’m probably gonna join your course because I’ve learned pretty much everything I know about cameras/filmmaking from your videos lol.
Keep it up dude..your very good at this. You both seem like sweet people
I can relate to this as well. There's only but so much time in the day and we are always being pulled in multiple directions. Balance is hard, but it is important to stop and see the bigger picture. Where is my time going? Is it productive? Can I make adjustments? What are they? How? It goes on and on and on. I like the way you throw it up on the wall and also realize that you need to tap out and enlist others. That's my main problem - it's hard for me to delegate or simply figure out what needs to be delegated in the first place. Good thought provoking vid.
my brother did from Alaska to Argentina with an OOOLD van so yeah, you can totally drive a van like that one all the way to south america
Can’t wait to hear about your course!
Gene I would like u to explain dynamic range, bit rate ,colour depth and some codecs also and why to use those codecs and what they are actually
Nice! This is one of my favourite channels and I'm glad you found a way to keep producing it without burning out.
hello Gene! would love to know how to NOT get noise in low light situations or in shadows when recording in log from your course. low light video section and grading log would help a ton!
Now that is what you call progress bro' control and maneuver what you can also means getting good help and trustworthy loyalty! Good for you bro.
Love your shows. Good entertainment. Love to see your commercial work mr Jet
Yeahhh I want more Dylan! Happy that you're employing him!
a solid phone that you can edit in film from will do the trick I think you don't need to get any accessories if you have one thing that really works well. when I need to phone to go like a camera discreet and useful I just use a gimbal for my iPhone 11 base model and I use my pixel as my point-and-shoot
I'm so excited for the course, thanks!
If you are ever in Peru, I’ll be your guide!! Damn I’ll take time off from work if needed 💪🏼🤣
Let's GOOOOOO. Dylan is the boy and the vlogs are the best part 😂
do you need a mod on the harley for the charge profile of the lion battery ?
The best thing you did was to use the post it board. I started using one few weeks ago and it has helped me A LOT. I tried to using the reminders app, and a project manager site and I was still struggling. Is hard when you have to split yourself into pieces to accomplish your goals while making sure you still have enough time to spend with the family.
My cousin and I just started a charity, for which I have to do 90% of the work because he only speaks Spanish... we also started a podcast that I have to produce, record, edit and manage; Keep doing my job as a chef, and spend as much time as possible with my two kids. 😅
So keeping myself organized with a board and a obscene amount of post it notes has helped me to stay ahead on all my shit and have time to dedicate to my family.
Best of luck man!
I really love Potato Jet, and it is absolutely a go to resource for me... But I REALLY love Gene sharing his life. It really helps me as a human and pro trying to tackle balance, fun, and life. And maybe that's a whole lot more important than the low light performance of my Sony in the end...
Love the information in your vlogs. Can you ad a course topic about how sponsor deals usually work? Do you get help of a manager of an agency? Don’t care about the numbers but more in the business models. Tnx for al the info
Thank you so much for sharing what life is like behind the scenes of a full time RUclipsr! I love your vlog channel even more than potato jet!
Dylan seems really cool. This is going to be fun 😎
You have a stellar cast for life. Congrats 🎉
editing on an ipad in lumafusion is so nice, totally would recommend that for Lucy!
Re: your course - it sounds like a beast of a course to plan/shoot/edit. I would recommend splitting it up into 3 chunks: planning, shooting, post-production.
Personally, I'm more interested in the planning side of things (i.e. idea generation, scripting, planning, shooting). There are others who want the shooting (gear/audio/lighting), or post production (editing). I'm not too interested in the editing/gear/audio/lighting.
My 2 cents: if you create an all-encompassing course and charge $500, it would be less compelling than if you were to create 3 separate courses at $200 each. If somebody wanted all 3, you could give the $500 price. Also, from a creation perspective, you'd be able to focus one "third" at a time. Better for your sanity, your wallet, and the consumers. Riches in the niches! Hope this helps!
Which platform are you using to build your course? I am thinking about building my own, still looking for a good platform to host it.
It’d be funny to see you and Sam do a switcheroo for a video where you’re Sam’s camera guy and he does reviews.
Division of labor. Do what you do best.
Massive respect for that, still going and keeping this channel going also. Keep pushing, making a positive impact on the world man🙏🏾
Anyone know the name of those rods that Potato has mounted in his office? The ones with the curtains.
Hope your bike is fixed easily. My bike did the same thing. It was the regulator/rectifier. Ride safely man.
This was so dope! I would pay for your course, I hope there is a section about RUclips in it.?
