Yeah I ran across the Oryx when it was an independent company…there were some quirks I didn’t like at the time; but I don’t precisely remember what they were. Something to do with the magazine I believe, and potentially the looks. I’m not sure about them now that MDT bought them out. They may have improved the design/function.
I would like to hear your thoughts of the old vs new Oryx model. Did they change anything and would you try it again if they change things you didn't like about the old Oryx?
@@johnlicon2472 I'm not certain I can give a thorough answer as I've not played with the new one. Personally it was mainly the design aesthetics and some reported magazine issues with the original Oryx. I would assume MDT may have refined things a bit, but it doesn't look like they made any major changes. I'll reach out to them and see if I can get a more detailed answer.
Very nice video! That howa a standard or heavy barrel profile? Getting ready to buy one from brownells..under $400 right now till the end of the month.
I enjoyed watching, but even such a seemingly simple upgrade is a little beyond me, but it does look like it would be fun to shoot. Wish I could see more of the assembly, but understand why not. Kind of. Saw a guy get a strike because he slapped in a 30 rd mag yet another guy is disassembling a rifle and swapping out all kinds of parts modifying it up the ying yang and that's okay.
Yeah it’s really hard to know what kind of bullcrap the overlords are going to censor on any given day. I’m working on building up my Rumble channel, because RUclipss crap is getting old.
What how’s rifle is that? I like the color of the barrel. I’m thinking about doing the same thing you’re doing. I know it’s a howa 1500 but model or anything would help. Thanks
Trying to decide between a 300PRC howa barreled action for $500 or a bergara barreled action for twice the price. Twice the accuracy out of the Bergera or will the HOWA hit the 1,000 yard-mile long shots just as well as the Bergara?
That is very hard to quantify…it’s not impossible that the Howa will exhibit sub-moa accuracy. Which is more than enough for successfully, consistent 1000yd+ shots. If it’s going to be in a competitive situation; then the Bergera might be a hair tighter on groups - which equals a bigger difference at longer ranges.
They now offer the field stock (not XRS chassis but actually field stock they only had for Remington actions) for Howa 1500s now on mdts main website. Later they’ll be release them for ruger and savage etc.
@@theek.b They just made a release to dealers today about the Savage Short Action being available. It should be live on their website for ordering within a few days.

When you didn't express a poem over the tape MDT used to hold the box closed, but instead just flipped it open and dumped it - best unboxing ever!
Grip it and rip it; that’s the way!
Not button rifled. Howa uses CHF barrels. Just another reason to love them. Not to mention that factory 2 stage trigger is excellent
Wow, I really like this set up. It makes me wanna do a build myself and have a more heft option than just my Sig.
It’s a fairly simple upgrade, with big payoffs in modularity. Makes for a very ergonomic overall package as well.
10/10 for the unboxing bro! Nice chassis! Great comparison for the field.
Keep it simple, right? 😆
Have you looked at the MDT Oryx? Looks good too. Priced between the XRS and Field Stock.

cant wait for more unboxing vids!! LOL.
More to come!
The XRS is awesome 👍. Nice looking rig, hope it shoots well for ya.
Great looking setup 👍
Thanks 👍

Heavy barrel…nice and thick and juicy!

Howa 1500 is the model. 6,5 Creedmoor is the caliber. MDT XRS is the chassis

I didn’t think they made the Field Stock for Howa 1500’s.
They do. Exclusive through Brownells

The website mentions lack of v block due to the flat action. Will this make a difference in accuracy? Im interested in this as a budget setup.
I will let you know, lol. I'm assuming it will be clean and accurate, as the block is really well machined and fits up to the action beautifully.
I might be dumb but what is the scope on the howa (under the camo)
@@ElizabethParker-i6g not at all: the one in this video is a Vortex PST 2-10, with sunshade on
I’m soooo with you on unboxing. It’s fuckn stupid
Hate. It. And we’re all dumb enough to keep watching them. 😂
XRS vs KRG X-RAY??
XRS..no contest.
