Random info, when the prince said he was going in disguise he meant going out without his royal robes. Back then common people didn’t know what the Royal family looked like so they identified them by the Royal robes, the king wore the red robes with dragon on it and the crown prince wore the blue one
Just caught us off guard cuz he’s still wearing purple silk robes so we’re like huh??

Edit: Just for clarification, this means while people would know he's part of the nobility, they wouldn't know he's part of the royal family.
Korea's "Joseon" period was the last dynastic kingdom of Korea. It lasted about 500 years (1392 to 1897). The series "Kingdom" takes place in approximately 1600 ACE. That's about 20 years before the Pilgrims sailed from England. Korea wasn't divided into two countries until 1945 (almost 350 years after the series takes place). This happened following World War 2 and was orchestrated by the United States and the Soviet Union. A later war was fought between North and South Korea from 1950 to 1953 (a proxy war of patrons that was supported by The U.S. and Soviets). That war ended in an uneasy armistice and demilitarized zone which continues to this day.

Side note: back in ancient era of Korea only the son who is born to a Queen can be the next king, the prince was born to a concubine which means he can only be the king if there’s no legitimate heir, that’s why the queen and her father the head of cho clan don’t want the public to know that the king is dead before she give birth to a son

That's not always how it went though. In the case of Lee Shin cough Lee Chang or at least the real life king he represents. It was the queen who made him king based on a promise he made that he later reneged on. That family was a hot mess. I feel like this is the unofficial prequel to Rampant or Rampant is the unofficial sequel to Kingdom. I'm still convinced the king in Rampant is Injo

I just randomly came across your Train to Busan reaction yesterday. Watched it. Cried again for the nth time. And here I am, for another reaction. Bn a while since I watched Kingdom. Hubby & I binged through Season 1 a day b4 Season 2 was released. Then continued w Season 2 😂

To those who don't know, back then, The Kings are allowed to have multiple wives regardless if he already has a Queen, other wives will be called concubines. The only reassurance of the Queen to be still in power is her first son (also the first son of the King) which will be the crown prince the day he was born. But that doesn't end there. If the concubines gave birth to a son, it can be a threat to the crown prince especially if the crown prince isn't healthy. This usually will be the start of the power struggle within the royal family.
In here, Prince Lee Chang was the first son of the King from a concubine. It was not like he doesn't have the rights to the throne. But once the Queen gave birth to a son, a lot of ministers, which are usually have power in the court can claim that the LEGITIMATE heir (from King and Queen's blood) to the throne has been born. Plus the power the Queen hold from his clan is huge.
Anyways, I love Kingdom so much more than any other zombie movies or dramas (maybe because I also love the historical settings that's why)

Most of the concubines of the yangban were daughters of the same yangban family, and most of the concubines had lower status than the yangban, such as slaves, low people, and common people. In Joseon, the difference between a wife and a concubine was enormous, and it is only a wife who follows her husband and has all the authority of the family. When a concubine gave birth to a child, even if the father was a yangban, the children were forced to become low-ranking according to the mother's status. The concubine's child could not get a government job and could not call his father his father. The king's concubines are an exception. Children of the king's concubine can call the king a father.😅

i love this show thanks for checking it out! some other Korean shows that are nice are Song of the Bandits(Korean western set in 1920s), Beyond Evil (mystery/thriller about a serial killer), My Liberation Notes (a lot slower than the other shows recommended but i really loved it its about three siblings trying to find fulfillment and freedom from their lives)
The movies i would recommend would be Alienoid, Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds, The Host, Extreme Job, Forgotten and House of Hummingbird

The North and South Korea split is relatively recent history, so at this time it would have been one country (I believe this is the Joseon era).
Concubine in the royal family would come with an official title in the Inner Palace (controlled by the Queen) and mostly would have been from noble families, but a son from the actual Queen would be considered a more "legitimate" bloodline - being first born was not a guarantee of inheriting the crown.

OH GOD NO you're watching Kingdom!! I previously commented that I'm Korean and hate zombies - this show was my worst nightmare! But I have to admit it's absolutely stellar. An ancient-Korea period show with amazing costumes, great characters (even the ones you hate) and terrifying zombies. I have the feeling I'll be watching your reactions with my hands covering my eyes most of the time!

@@brosnshowsthere was suppose to be one like years ago but cuz of the pandemic got stopped , so then released a prequel to understand the new season character but still not sign of a date for the 3 third , but it’s supposed to be confirm , but as you see everything it’s high quality , so it’s takes time for production and post production. I’m still have hope 🥲 cuz after you watch everything you realize it’s really NEEDS a 3th season.

Most of the king's concubines are from noble families, so they are in power. In some cases, women who were not aristocrats became king's concubines, but they were not in power because they were only chosen by the king for their excellent appearance, and all were maids who worked in the royal palace. Please checkout Rampant. Martial arts, sword fights and zombies. One of the best I have ever seen. It is also a Korean time period movie as well.
