I’m a Korean who came across your channel randomly and here are some fun facts that I would like to add some fun historic stuff: During Choseon period(the background of Kingdom), the Confucionism was the major religious/philosophy which rooted deeply of the people and the Royals’s customs and living patterns. According to the confucionism, burning your body was not “allowed”, unless there was a pandemic disease, which is a contrast to the Buddhism. That explains why people tried to put the fire out!
So just to let you guys know, sometimes there will be flashbacks thrown in here and there at what seems random, but it won´t be obvious that it's a flashback. If you find yourselves confused at certain scenes it might be a flashback. For example the scene in this episode where you suddenly see physician Lee alive and checking on the king where Lee said to Cho and the queen that the King has passed away... that was a flashback. Great reaction guys looking forward to more!👍🏻
I think the thing that sets this apart from other zombie media is that this explores zombie as a completely new concept in the eyes of people (people in the series). Imagine it from a perspective of a villager who has NEVER seen a person come back from dead. They won’t immediately register it as bad - just be shocked. That’s why they show the man running towards his dead wife - he thought he got her back because why would it be bad that she’s not dead? It explores a blank page for a creature we NOW call zombie. It’s frustrating to us how people don’t immediately run because we are way too over exposed to the concept of zombie to ever imagine how a person not exposed to the concept would behave. The novelty of what a zombie is and how the main characters try to make sense of it is one of the unique points of this series. Every other series is mostly modern setting and zombies are “known monsters” to the characters in them. So they know how zombies act and what should be done to “kill” them. Here we see the characters fumble and find out. The medicine woman/doctor is one of the best characters in that setting!
love this show, seen it a bunch of times but it still hits! the thing you have to remember though is that the villagers aren’t dumb, they just have no frame of reference for zombies like we do. to them someone ranting about monsters and desecrating corpses by burning them is just plain crazy. also got a good laugh at “they elected this incompetent magistrate,” they’re mostly nepo appointments 😄 also, for future reference, the thing that the prince’s guard flashes isn’t a black card, it’s an identification tag! great reaction, looking forward to y’all seeing the whole story unfold :)

Kingdom is also based on a comic that is very different Interestingly. On that note there is a comic called the Annals of Zombie Joseon
Due to the influence of Confucianism, there was a strong idea that "damaging the body inherited from parents is a sin." Cutting hair is not allowed either. The man and woman had long hair, and the man shaved some hair to raise his hair, but the woman could not. So women from poor families cut and sold their hair.(Their hair is used to make wigs for aristocratic women.)
