And bong-gil is "법사“ in korean. He recites sutras or takes on important tasks in ceremonies. Hwa-rim's relationship with him is like a mother and son. When you become a shaman, there is a senior shaman who holds a special ceremony and teaches and protects you until you fulfill your role as a shaman. It's called god-mother because she acts like a mother. Hwa-rim is bong-gil's god-mother, so it can be said that it is a special relationship.
Hwa-rim's grandmother, mentioned in the film, means the god she serves. And the actor who played the role of the grandmother is actually a very famous shaman in Korea, giving advice to the film.
And ... Westerners who are not familiar with shamanism are difficult to understand, so I am not sure if I can explain it well in English. To scratch her skin with a knife during the ritual of exorcism is to check whether the god she serves has come to her body. The shaman puts the god in her body, dances and jumps with the music so that they are excited. When the god comes in that way, nothing sharp can harm her body. When the shogun oni asked Hwarim if she prepared both sweet fish and the fruit, that’s actually testing to see if she really is his subordinate or foe. The type of fruit he was talking about is the one that is common in Korea, while the sweet fish was common food in Japan. And, Hwarim replied she will prepare sweet fish, she said that because SHE KNEW the intention of the question.
Fun fact. The ritual actually real (i mean the way to do it are real) . I mean she do the real way of the ritual. So when they shoot the scene there is real shaman that teach her and just look after the actress, actor and all of crews while shooting that scene. And the actress even said she felt weird while she shoot the ritual scene at the grave.

같은 도교에서 파생된 종교라 그렇습니다. 우리가 산신령님 산속의 나무에 사당을 꾸민다거나 수호목으로 모시는것... 49제를 지내거나 옥황상제 용왕님 운수 12지신 같은 신앙을 믿는것이 일본에서도 똑같이 적용됩니다. 다 같은 도교이죠.
삼국시대에 불교가 국교가 되며 이후 유교가 퍼지며 자연스럽게 한반도에서는 종교보다는 무속으로 남았으며 일본의 경우는 불교나 유교가 전달되기는 하였으나 끊임없는 전쟁끝에 근대화가 들어오며 도교가 꽤나 오래 살아남아 현재의 일본 문화와 정신에 많은 영향을 끼치며 일본의 수 많은 컨텐츠에 등장하는 초 현실적인 존재와 현상들의 기초가 되었습니다. 중국은 마오쩌뚱이 그런걸 믿는 사람들을 모두 죽였기 때문에 없습니다 😂

한국의 오컬트 영화 감상이 올라왔군요. 이 감독은 한국에서 그래도 덜 개척된 이쪽 장르에만 꾸준히 매진하고 있어서, 이제는 거장 칭호를 받는 감독입니다.
이 영화는 그간 그의 노력에 대해 한국 관객들이 보답이라도 준다는 듯이 많은 사랑을 받은 작품입니다. 완전히 본격적인 장르물은 아니지만, 그래도 상당히 대중적인 요소를 곁들여서 잘 풀어낸 타이틀로 보여집니다. 개인적으로도 극장 개봉관에서 상당히 재밌었고, 켈비님의 리액션도 매우 잘 감상했습니다. 감사합니다.

이 영화는 대한민국의 기득권이 불편해 할 진실에 관한 내용이기도 합니다.
여담이지만 대한민국에 방문하는 유튜버나 관광오는 관광객들 입장에선 즐길거리가 많은 화려한 국가지만 그 이면에는 이런 답답한 실정이 있습니다.
대한민국은 '제2차 세계대전' 후 나치에게 부역한 사람들을 색출해서 끝까지 처벌하는 다른 유럽국가 들과 다르게 (일제 강제 점령기 이후 '6.25 한국전쟁' 등으로 인해) 미국등 강대국의 이해 관계에 따라 분단 되었으며 '일제 강제 점령기' 일본에 부역한 세력들을 단 하나도 처벌하지 못했어요...
이후 '6.25 한국전쟁' 후 '군부독재시절' 일제에 부역하던 그들은 또 독재자에 붙어서 오히려 기득권이 되어 지금의 대한민국 국가 시스템 전 분야의 최상위에 존재 합니다. 그것도 그들만의 견고하고 거대한 카르텔로 말이죠...
또한 '제2차 세계대전' 원자폭탄 투하 이후 망해버렸던 일본은 '6.25 한국전쟁' 당시 미군등의 무기공장의 전초기지로 사용되면서 막대한 부를 축적하였고 단번에 세계 탑급의 경제국가가 되었습니다.
그런 일본은 이런 막대한 자금으로 전세계의 국제기구들 그리고 세계 권력을 쥐고 있는 미국의 정치인들에게 로비를 하며 일본의 세력을 공고히 다졌습니다.
그러면서 또한 '2차 세계대전'시 대한민국을 포함 동아시아에 걸쳐 행했던 악날한 전범행위들을 무마시키려는 일들을 꾸준히해 왔습니다. (일례로 위안부 성노예 문제가 대표적인 일입니다.)
동시에 일본은 그 막대한 자금으로 한국의 독재정권에 돈을 대왔고 대한민국의 사법, 정치, 경제, 유통, 교육, 언론, 방송 등의 전 분야에 걸쳐 소위 '일본장학생' 들을 양성하며 아직 까지도 대한민국을 그 영향력 하에 두고 있습니다.
대한민국 역사 교육에서 이러한 사실은 교육분야의 일제 부역세력의 방해로 일본에 강제 점령 당한 내용만 오래전의 일로 가르칠뿐 일본의 패전 후 근현대사에 일본이 어떻게 대한민국을 지배하고 있는지에 대해선 더 깊은 내용까지는 교육이 되지 못하는 현실입니다.
따라서 젊은 세대와 나이든 세대의 역사의식의 격차는 더 벌어지고 있으며 대한민국의 정치집단 여,야를 막론하고 'Divide and Rule'로 국민들이 정치에 관심을 두지 못하게 하기 위해 이를 갈등을 만드는데 이용하고 있습니다.
그래서 아직도 대한민국은 우리를 강제 점령했던 일본에게서 완전한 '독립'을 이루지 못했습니다. 이건 대한민국 사람들의 단순한 '반일감정' 이상의 현실입니다.
그래서 대한민국에서는 이러한 영화들이 끊임없이 나오고 있습니다. 그러나 무조건 반일을 하는 영화나 드라마라고 해서 대한민국 사람들이 무조건적으로 열광하진 않습니다. 오히려 노골적인 반일 마케팅을 사람들은 거부합니다. 또한 대한민국에선 이런 오컬트적인 장르는 흥행하기 쉽지 않습니다. 그럼에도 이 영화가 흥행한건 화려한 배우들의 캐스팅과 그들의 멋진 연기들로 인한 것이 먼저 였는데 이후에 이 영화의 스토리 배경이 일본에 부역한 가문의 이야기를 바탕으로 했다는 것 그리고 대한민국 샤먼풍습을 사실적으로 다뤄 이슈가 되었다는 걸 말해두고 싶습니다.

The metal iron spike was the General (mainly sword inside the general), water was the Snake demon spirit (called nure onna which represents water), fire was the burning general himself, and he was buried in earth thus completing the five elements, balanced. Once the snake was killed, balance was broken hence the rain and a evil dreams.

I've seen the trailers and a few clips of the movie, but I haven't watched it yet until this reaction.
I find it fascinating and very interesting that the mannerisms of the spirits in this movie are quite similar with the "aswang" in our country's lore. I'm from the Philippines.
Same goes for preventive rituals like the vertical burial, the use of glutenous rice, etc.
Same like you, not a horror lover, and yet i watched it in cinema aloneeeeee just because everyone saaaid how good this movie is
