Avoid This Scam: 1909-S VDB Counterfeit Detection Process
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 6 мар 2019
- Recently, we had an interesting situation at the coin shop I work at. Essentially, a customer had purchased a very valuable uncirculated 1909-S VDB from eBay - or so he thought. The 1909-S VDB is a very iconic and valuable coin, and because of that status, has been the target of a lot of fakes. Thankfully, the fake that the customer bought was very easy to detect and was easily refunded, but not all counterfeit 1909-S VDB pennies are that easy to see. First I'll talk about the specific case that happened in the shop and then go into a presentation about the different markers, whether it is in the VDB, S mint mark, or elsewhere, that you need to look for!

Thanks for you close up pictures it really helped me decide if a 1909 (S) was fake or not!
Man, awesome video. Very informative and professional. 👍👍
Appreciate it, Tony!
I just found some fake 1909 S pennys listed on Ebay, so becareful folks ! (I'm here now on 3 Sept. 2021) Thankfully I've been subbed here a long time and am so thankful to get such learning tools here.
Thank you so much sir!
Great information. If I was going to buy a 1909-S VDB I think I would buy a graded one.
Right on - I'd buy mine graded because of the amount of fakes.
Good video, informative! Although I don’t plan to buy one, it’s always good to know so I can pass the word on!
Exactly! Definitely won't own one myself (at least, not for a while!)
Awesome. Thank you for the great info.👍👍👍
Thanks Pams!
for this coin only buy certified Anacs, ngc, or Pcgs examples.
Couldn't agree more!
WOWED, thank you for the video, I think most people would be fooled by the fakes. Thank you for your work and help.
For sure! Thanks for the comment.
Very interesting Cristian, thanks for posting
For sure! Glad you learned from it!
WOW how interesting to know that someone would go thru all this to make a fake penny.
Great job thanks for the info 👍
Glad you enjoyed it James - thanks man.
Whoa! So much going on! I se that vdb, obverse dies , wow I see the difference! I didn’t know about that Dot .B is slightly slanted,Great information Treasure Town! 👍👍👍🌈
For sure! I'm not in a position to trade these too often (especially raw) but I found it pretty cool to think about.
Is there alot of that going on?I have been searching for a month to find the value of my coins. I noticed that no matter how rare the coin is I can always find the same coin for $8000 and then for 7$ else where.
I did look at my S vdb and it looks good, MY QUESTION is on the regular 1909 vdb not S the B in vdb does no look the same as the 1909 S vdb. not really slanting down middle of B.
Great info 👍
Thanks DD!
Thanks Chris
You are the Master
Thanks so much, Eduardo!
i have a 1909 vdb and the b is not slanted and there is no dots.
Would this info also pertain to the 'P' 1909? 🤔 tia
Great information. Unfortunately I will never be in the market for this, I know i need for my book but I probably not be spending the money this coin demands. Thank you for the great video.
Exactly - won't be until I'm WAY older that I'll think about buying one.
So my question is can I buy a real one at an affordable price to compete my set
I got screwed on e-bay fighting back now
I have one that I have a few questions about
Good video
Thanks Adam!
Thx
For sure!
Mechanical/strikes doubling are easy to ID.. It's the fat, genuine double die that needs a lot of experience to determine.
Agreed!

You know that vbb is supposed to be dead even at 6 and its off center to the left a little bit that's another Telltale sign
Shawn - STOP....You are dead wrong. The REAL VDB is slightly left of center. I've been a rare coin dealer for 60+ years. Get your facts straight before mouthing off and misleading people. AND....It's NOT vbb. It is V.D.B., The initials of Victor David Brenner, the coin's designer. PLEASE learn about Lincoln Cents.

I Bought A 1914 S Which Actually Was A 1944 S And I Brought It Back To The Coin Shop To Get My Money Back !!
Aw man! That's pretty crazy.
I think that I just bought a 1909 s that’s a fake we will see.
It's a hard item to find so Y bought it with out certify company ? Don't tell me "it's cheap" get it got it good.
This is why I left this hobby. Can't even trust slabs. Ridiculous! It used to be fun but nowadays everything is picked over by these coin jocks buying $5 k worth of nickels from the bank leaving everyone else with nothing to find. The whole hobby is an overrated joke.
You said that the dye has a different address each dye has a different S no shit the S isn't punched at the same time as all the other stuff it separate you should know this their genius tighten up
