When i first saw a couple episodes I realized the only reason people think Henry is horrid is because he's the only normal one. Not once have I heard his parents admit to him that they love him.
personally i think that Peter is also abused because when he broke a vase he cried tears of fear that he would be BANISHED from his FAMILY and never spoken to AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve always thought Peter and Henry had a Dog and Cat relationship with Henry being the dog and Peter the cat. As I’ve often discovered, though dogs are the ones who chase cats, the cats are the ones who trigger the dog. Which I think Peter does exactly to Henry. And he tells on Henry for the littlest things, which includes Henry telling Peter to go away. If I had a brother like Henry, I’d just leave him alone. I’m also surprised Peter never had PTSD from when a massive shelf fell on Henry.
Its likely Peter is afraid of his parents and knowing how horrible they are, so its likely he gets Henry into trouble because he wants his parents to approve of him and get praise. I personally would not consider him a psychopath as most psychopaths tend to show highly disturbing behavior (like playing with knives to the point their opponent gets hurt, or has unhealthy obsessions and fascinations with disturbing things: all things just there in the brackets are signs of psychopathy Ted Bundy, another psychopath well known for being a serial killer, displayed in his childhood). I have not did too much research on psychopathy however, but I feel like I could make a good theory on this matter
Read Horrid Peter. It's one of the best fanfics ever written. It has grape, manipulation and carving, but doesn't glorify that. It makes you empathize with Henry, and gives a little spark of hope since he has two allies who believe him instead of Peter. It gave me tears during my first read.
As a child who is the 'golden child' out of and my sister, i sympathised with peter more than most people do. Sure, hes whiny and a tattletail but isnt he like 6-8 depending on what point in the show it is? Whining is just what kids do. And i get people finding it annoying when peter pipes up with stuff like "I did all my chores mum", "i did all my homework". But i think the reason hes doing that is because if he doesnt say anything then his parents wont ACKNOWLEDGE what he did. Its so easy to hate on him for being seemingly perfect but i think he is doing it out of fear of disappointing his parents- a fear i also feared heavily when i was young. Peter probably noticed that henry gets more attention from his parents despite acting out so peter probably thinks hes not being perfect ENOUGH, making him try harder and harder to make his aweful abusive parents proud. All peter really gets from his parents is a 'well done' or they let him pick a restaurant every once in a while. He never objects to anything they want, which isnt healthy or normal. While it is annoying how much he tattles on henry, i can see a reason why he might do it: he could be doing out of fear, believing that if his parents catch him NOT telling them 'important' things- he'll also be to blame. Once youve built up such a high reputation like peter has at such a young age, you feel the need to keep it up, if you dont then youre a disappointment. I think peter has been abused by his parents in a different way
More takes like this please 🙏🏾 I've realized I've been raised as a 'golden child' - my dad is more harsh to my brother, my mom at least tries to be fair, but is tired of being 'between' my dad and brother, and reminding my brother that 'she has another kid' In a household like this Good behavior isn't really acknowledged unless it's to compare one child to the other or pit them against each other (which leeaves me not knowing whether to tell anyone if I did something good - doing chores is expected but if I don't point it out it isn't acknowledged, but if I do says something it only makes things worse) I also end up not objecting to anything anyone wants, to the point where I don't know what I like or don't like, and if I can't hide someone will make me do a favor against someone else and I get caught in the middle even though I still don't know what they planned (If I object to what our parents want, I'm being to difficult, dishonoring them, or being just like my brother who they're already tired of dealing with If I object to something my brother wants, I'm being against him, being just like Dad and Mom who he's already tired of dealing with, and of course, I have it so good so I should be fine giving up whatever (With the 'tattling', it's important to keep in mind he might not know yet what's 'important' to tell yet - it's not like anyone is teaching him) I wish more people realized 'the golden child' or 'the favorite' doesn't actually have it 'easy' How is your relationship with your sister now?
@achingforstrength 1st: this is relatable to me in soo many ways- you're not alone. It's difficult to pick who to side: your sibling or your parents. If your sibling (in my case younger sister) wants me to keep a secret from my parents, it depends for me personally. If it's something that I know could hurt her then I tell, if it's just being a few minutes late to school, I usually will not bring it up and just claim it as an 'I owe you' (usually just a small chore like doing the dishes that my parents told me to do since they work usually in the day XD). My relationship with my sister I'd consider great- we've always been close but it is hard to see her being ridiculed so much. At her birthday, there were a few times where my parents turned the conversation about MY birthday and what I wanted to the point I reminded them that today isn't about ME- it's about my sister; I could tell she appreciated it even if she'd never admit it. I try my best to be involved in my sister's life as much as possible and let her know that she can trust me. In fact, she let me meet her boyfriend and our parents don't even know she's DATING 😆. He got my approval and that was good enough for her. There's always the stereotype that the 'golden' child and the 'bad' child always dislike each other bc of jealousy/built up anger however, I find that her anger is more directed at my parents and not myself due to the fact I'm probably who she's closest with in the family. Sure, we playfully argue but that's about it. Idk about your relationship with your brother but I recommend just...being there sometimes is good enough. Give him a compliment every once in a while, celebrate his achievements even if they seem small or your parents deem them insignificant, have faith in them (like what school subjects they want to take). If he likes video games, maybe ask if you can join or ask if he wants to watch a movie, maybe even ask him if he wants to go out for food at like a cheap chicken/food place; that was a good starting point for me and my sister. If you have a good relationship and just feel guilty your getting more attention, I found it useful to give that same amount of attention to my sister so she feels validated. Your parents won't/can't be mad at you for being a good sibling- it's a good loophole I've found.
Peter was definitely a villain from season 4 onwards. He just loved getting Henry into trouble and threw tantrums all the time. In the Eco Warrior episode he had a rant at Henry for taking a position he wanted despite him not actually wanting it but was assigned by Miss Oddbod, he then proceeded to nick a bunch of Henry's belongings and made it seem like he was going to donate them. In Season 5 in the good day bad day episode other from like 3--4 red squares, Henry had actually done lots of good deeds but Peter sneakily did nothing and then manipulated the mum into saying he did nothing to allow Henry a chance to be good. To make things worse, Henry and Dad both lost out on those cinema tickets even though Henry had rightfully earnt them, but ironically the Mum was never going to give Henry those tickets as she already arranged for the cousin Stuck Up Steve to collect them even before Peter tried to manipulate her. The main reason why the show dropped in quality season 4 onwards was it made Peter the bad guy and Margaret too annoying, Henry was rarely the bad guy at all and a lot of the episode had no gags or plot, they were just Henry doing 4th wall commentaries. You could probably merge the best episodes from season 4 and 5 together and then call it a day. If the show does carry on, they need to fix Peter as he's making it hard to watch.
Yeah I remember that he had his little payback arc in the series. I remember that episode where Henry does chores to go to the funfair whilst fuck face tries to screw him over. Luckily, Peter fails at this and the episodes where he get reprimanded are the best. Goes to show that Peter can be a prick sometimes
In the beginning Peter was just a perfect child however later on he grew up and became worse than Henry. He knew he was the favourite and made Henry suffer because of it
I always thought Peter was called perfect as in this is the best he can be rather than perfect as in he has no flaws. That's why over time as Henry's getting better Peter's getting worse. He's not able to move forward.
As a child who acted like both Henry and Peter at times. When I pointed outed out my good deeds vs my sisters bad ones it wasn't to seem better than my sister but to try and make my parents happy so they would stop being angry.
10:55 "Slowly, Peter stretched out his foot and kicked Henry." Henry's dad: "Don't be horrid, Henry". Me: 😕😕😕😕😕😕WTF? How is this Henry's fault? Peter kicked Henry deliberately so I don't understand why Henry is getting the blame for it tbh.
No. Just no. A kid being a kid when there are free did you see any freedom in side horrid Henry when peter just mean? No and there is no probably too in there. 😒 so there for you just making excuses, and by the way when Henry came downstairs for cereal he bother peter put more in there. So yeah there you have it. I’m out of here now goodbye. 😑
Peter barely gets any recognition other than being a brat. So seeing this video actually talk about Peter's evil moments makes me happy considering hes my favourite.
It could partly also be that to Peter, Henry is the one causing the trouble which makes sense to Peter. As this is how he’s used to Henry being and anything else to him, is unacceptable. That’s because if Henry behaves himself, then what would that make Peter? In this case it would make him the badly behaved one. Peter and Henry are two polar opposites of each other. Henry is displayed as the rude and messy one, but most kids are. And like most kids, Henry has a good-side. Peter on the other hand, always has to be right, proper, polite and neat. And partly that’s due to Henry, cause if Henry is always the one misbehaving, Peter never gets the chance to show-off his more devious-side. In Peter’s mind, because of the way that Henry behaves it makes Peter say to himself “ I never want to be like that.” And so the stress is on him to behave well just so their parents won’t have twice as much of ahead ache. This has sadly become so strongly this way for Peter, that he doesn’t realize that making mistakes and occasionally causing trouble can be a good thing as it can be stress-reliving and a good way to learn life’s lessons. And because Henry often behaves badly and is messy, he’s allowed to fall on his face whereas Peter is not. So, he is forced to hide his more badly behaved-side.
Oh spare me. Remember that episode where Peter tried adopting Henry's behavior in order for his parents to notice him just because Henry was causing them a lot of trouble that specific day? Peter isn't afraid of getting into trouble, he's afraid that his parents won't glaze him at every given opportunity.
THIS 👆🏾 All kids have good and bad sides, but Peter isn't ALLOWED to show his bad side "The stress is on Peter to behave well just so their parents won't have twice as much of a head ache" (Maybe it's because I'm currently trapped in a household where my brother expressing needs to our parents turns into big long fights, and if I express that I have a similar need Dad dismisses it, Mom mockingly says she 'must be talking to' my brother, and my brother all but knocks me down to say they're 'listening to me but not him' even though ultimately nothing is done But I relate to this) How do I get out of this? Please help

I wont say he a Psycho path I think he the reason he thinks he need to be perfect is on his parents like both are pretty horrible like they don’t even try to understand Henry nor do they sit him down and ask why he acting out but I think the reason Peter act out is because if Henry start acting good and well behaved his parents might start treating him like Henry or hell might just ignore him I think he more scared of what would he be in the eyes of his parents
I swear this is so similar to wimpy kid like bro. What is it with these children book main characters and their terrible childhoods hidden in plain sight? 🤔
The thing is where Henrynwas trying to be perfect for get acknowledge by someone...his brother was feeling the guilt ..why is he doing so much good things out of sudden?..Why is he so attentive?.. Something is off🤔 (Observed by Peter or anyone who does a lot of good work OR.. He never used to be..byt suddenly someone is doing so😅)
1994. Talking about that the goblet of fire took place. = Cedric Diggorys death. He gets reward and spoilt so Henry is an excuse for being neglected. Pete is being encouraged to act like that. That's one example to make Henry jealous because he's being spoiled. All because they want a huge difference. Henry's neglected alongside abused. So he has.more of an issue for attention. This is why he's acting out. He has triple the drama.
Yeah when i was little i liked Moody Margaret who in my native language was called Wredna Wandzia . ( Im from Poland 🇵🇱 so Horrid Henry is this dub is called Koszmarny Karolek)
In Finnish translation, Horrid Henry is Hirveä Henri ja Perfect Peter is Kultainen Pekka. The books were never translated (I think), I remember watching that cartoon.
The names weren't changed in my country but I don't think the word 'horrid' or a translation of it was ever used in the dialogues lol, I mean it is kinda harsh to describe a child as horrid.
Great video essay, can’t believe this is a smaller channel. I also see the image of the golden child and the black sheep from narcissistic families. Which can also have the children pitted against each other due to how they’re raised.
I watched ur videos and thought u were a big RUclipsr until I saw how underrated you are, I really enjoy ur videos especially cuz I don't see many horrid Henry video essays, keep it up!
"Horrid Henry and the Catastrophic Cushion" I remember Peter being very manipulative towards Mum when she suggests Fluffy sleep outside. Peter ... "You can't do that mum" "You would be a cruel and heartless mum if you made fluffy sleep outside ... and you're not a cruel and heartless mum are you" The family then buy multiple beds for Fluffy which all get rejected and the episode finishes with Fluffy sleeping on HENRY'S new cushion
Your portrayal of different parts within your video is not only entertaining but also structured and seemingly professional. I believe that Peter portrayed similar characteristics within the the series quite obviously through his purposeful attempts at getting Henry in trouble, "look what Henry did"
I really don’t think he kicked Henry because he wanted him to kick him back but because he couldn’t hood in his anger anymore at Henry being good so lashed out.
I am so glad I have found this channel, growing up watching Horrid Henry I always thought 'It's a no wonder Henry is the way he is when his parents treat him like that'
Peter had no competition when it came to perfection. But when he saw henry becoming good he snapped. That's not supposed to happen according to him. Peter is the one who is supposed to be perfect and henry is the one who is supposed to be horrid. What peter doesn't understand is that people change. If people didn't change then what even is the point of doing anything.
i don't think he's a psychopath but a troubled child that's been manipulated, his behaviour has been molded by his abusive parents. henry and peter are both children, the parents are fully responsible for causing them so much distress; for henry, it is the neglect and abusive behaviour that causes him to be horrid, so he abuses peter. for peter, it's the favouritism and high expectations of the parents that causes him to be a perfectionist, a narcissist, and abusive to henry. peter needs validation or else he feels himself fall apart, and he will do anything, including hurting henry, to get that, because he has been told that he is the perfect golden child his entire life, giving him a superiority complex. on the other hand, he is also terrified of failure, and bursts out sobbing anytime he messes up, even the littlest bit (eg. in one episode, he refused to go home because he hadn't won an award, saying his mum would be "so cross/disappointed with me" further showing his secret insecurities). the parents abuse both of them and they abuse each other, and peter is another victim of the parents' abuse
I do think it’s important to note that those on the psychopathy spectrum aren’t inherently dangerous, and that this is also a stereotype regarding a mental condition/personality disorder which many live with. Having a lack or seemingly obsolete capacity for empathy doesn’t rid someone of being able to be a good person. You can still understand what is required of you to maintain relationships which benefit you (and that doesn’t always have to be toxic, you can enjoy someone’s company and what you get out of that interaction without it being inherently scary or negative). If anyone is watching this video and knows they are on the psychopathy spectrum, just know that you’re not a monster❤ you still deserve to be safe, have friends who care about you and understand you, access medical support without stigma, and be loved in all the ways you can and can’t reciprocate within your personal construct of what that means for you❤
It was going to be called in 1993 “Bad little brother” where Peter was bad and he would do all this, but he would blame it on Henry Henry would then get mad and sent to his room but they cancelled it and made it. Henry was horrid, but this is still part of the books from the 1990s and that’s the reason why Henry is horrid. He wants to get revenge on his little brother, but then his little brother learns to be good. 9:13
The part we’re you said about the pebble hits the windscreen of a car and it doesn’t do a break in the windscreen but you can still see the crack kinda reminds me of a Thomas character called Skarloey. In the early seasons and the railway series he is portrayed as an old and wise engine but in season 6 he didn’t have any big changes but it was clear that the cracks were showing, for example in the episode rusty saves the day skarloey is the first to throw in the towel after a lorry makes fun of them mending the line, not really a big change but in season 7 is when skarloey took a turn for the worst, in the episode the old bridge he derails on a bridge and dangles on it and when the bridge is fully repaired and has to get trucks from the other side and cowers and this was no fluke in the character for him for the rest of the model series skarloey being scared was the plot for some of of the hit era episodes, in season ten he’s afraid of the wharf and cowers when some trucks make fun of him, in season 11 he’s afraid of thunder and lightning so scared that he refuses to work. But when he’s not doing any of that he’s portrayed as a reckless imbecile examples include racing rheneas at dangerous speeds which cause rheneas to derail and topple down a hill, he goes up the incline to show the world how brave he is an breaks it in the process and he plays tug of war pull a puppet show train which is by far the worst episode of Thomas. But skarloey wasn’t to only one to suffer these changes. Pretty much all the narrow gauge engines had a change in character, rheneas also became a reckless child, rusty was very irresponsible and sir handel for no reason became to old wise character. But don’t worry they returned to normal in the switch to CGI.
My friend is one bc of some depression and other problems but his parents didn't believe him when he tried to tell em the truth only i know the most about him and i kinda feel bad for him bc im like an emotional support to him and hes the same for mee-glad to be your friend Cameron
When once henry wanted to gi to funfair but his parents said behave well for a day and we'll let you he was actually behaving well it was oeter who wanted to ruin it for him and didn't wanted him to go for funfair....

Don't assume a disorder if it can be explained by circumstance. Peter acts exactly how you would expect a child raised like him to act. He gets abused no less than Henry, although in a different way.
Psychopath also isn’t even a medically recognized term anymore although the whole video is prob just exaggeration. It would be conduct disorder in children and honestly the symptoms of that better fit book Henry.
Do you even know what a psychopath is? he’s a sociopath a psychopath is a killer who likes killing other people for fun and sociopath is some when someone who acts like they care about you then they use manipulating tactics for fun and can make others feel bad for that social path. 😒
He may be a sociopath but it could also be that he's jealous of the new attention Henry got. Like you said he's the product of unrealistic expectations so it's hard to tell.
Perfect Peter reminds me of Teruhashi from Saiki K. She does everything in her power to portray herself as perfect but on the inside she's such a spoiled and self-absorbed person
In one episode, hemrey was called for a msgic trick and when th clown said he'd make him disappear the mom cheered, you know it's bad when MARGRET has a face that shows her disgust of the mom! Henry didn't deserve this
Omg i freaking loved this program. but sometimes i wasnt allowed to watch it sometimes as my parents always thought it was strange. they just never told me why......
There is a line on the first page of the original horrid Henry book that is the parents saying this and I quote "How did two people as nice as us have such a horrid child" THAT IS OUTRIGHT NARCISSISM!!
For those who are wondering, Perfect Peter is not a psychopath since he feels guilt for bad things he did. Psychopaths don't usually feel any guilt at all, although he is mentally manipulative
Every Fictional Character that Seems To be In a main character’s Family that is rude, cruel or anything, are just normal. For example, Rodrick from diary of a wimpy kid Is normal. You start to realize that.
Oh my gosh. Imagine if their parents died when they were still kids or young adults. Peter would be so lost and broken. What do you think would happen to him and Henry?
OK I do have a good example of perfect Peter. One of my cousin always hit me and when I hit him back, He cry to his father. And it was very common for him to ruin the fun in summer vacation. Not just for me but for his own sibling as well. One day we was on trip. He pinch me so hard I yelled at him. But his father start scolding me for keep framing me. That time he forget forget that my mom was there and she took my side as well at that time. None of my cousin sisters loves him as he was very jerk. While my other cousin brothers prefer him as he was same asshole as my other brothers were towards me. And you know the most ironic part was when father of that rude cousin passed away. He didn't even visit him in hospital. Only me, and my another cousin (That person's son who passed away) was there.
honestly, Peter is just as much a victim as Henry he is forced to have a great reputation so his parents have one child they'll treat decently or he'll be treated just like Henry it's why he feels like he needs to be perfect to he isn't just another henry his parents

I've realized I've been raised as a 'golden child' - my dad is more harsh to my brother, my mom at least tries to be fair, but is tired of being 'between' my dad and brother, and reminding my brother that 'she has another kid'
In a household like this Good behavior isn't really acknowledged unless it's to compare one child to the other or pit them against each other (which leeaves me not knowing whether to tell anyone if I did something good - doing chores is expected but if I don't point it out it isn't acknowledged, but if I do says something it only makes things worse)
I also end up not objecting to anything anyone wants, to the point where I don't know what I like or don't like, and if I can't hide someone will make me do a favor against someone else and I get caught in the middle even though I still don't know what they planned
(If I object to what our parents want, I'm being to difficult, dishonoring them, or being just like my brother who they're already tired of dealing with
If I object to something my brother wants, I'm being against him, being just like Dad and Mom who he's already tired of dealing with, and of course, I have it so good so I should be fine giving up whatever
(With the 'tattling', it's important to keep in mind he might not know yet what's 'important' to tell yet - it's not like anyone is teaching him)
I wish more people realized 'the golden child' or 'the favorite' doesn't actually have it 'easy'
How is your relationship with your sister now?
Wow i never saw that point of view before thank you.
@@theredguy4043 Peter not so Perfect.

In the beginning Peter was just a perfect child however later on he grew up and became worse than Henry. He knew he was the favourite and made Henry suffer because of it
Yeah. I liked season 1 peter. He wasn't that mean in season 1. But he got worse😢
Peter will grow up to a criminal while Henry becomes normal after therapy.

Is Henry’s dad delusional? How did he not hear the it was HENRY’S voice saying “ouch”?
In all reality this is probably just a kid being a kid, but I fuckin love when we get the deep cuts from media like this. Solid essay man!
No. 😑
Henry's parents telling HIM to be horrid when Peter was the one who kicked him tells you everything you need to know about the family dynamic.

Probably Billy Butcher@@theepic1944
I like to think Henry would be like Billy butcher and try to take down Peter 😎
THIS 👆🏾
All kids have good and bad sides, but Peter isn't ALLOWED to show his bad side
"The stress is on Peter to behave well just so their parents won't have twice as much of a head ache"
(Maybe it's because I'm currently trapped in a household where my brother expressing needs to our parents turns into big long fights, and if I express that I have a similar need Dad dismisses it, Mom mockingly says she 'must be talking to' my brother, and my brother all but knocks me down to say they're 'listening to me but not him' even though ultimately nothing is done
But I relate to this)
How do I get out of this?

Hello snipesnap 😊
When I was younger I used to watch this show and I was always on Henry’s side because I genuinely felt bad for him when I was a pre-schooler
plot twist: peter is the actual bad kid and not henry........
I think you aren't considering the fact that all kids are sort of psychopaths. Especially to their siblings.
Let's not forget that psychopaths are not made, they are born. Psychopathy is genetic.
What if Henrys Mom is also a psychopath?
She is literally feels out of..
She seems. don't want to talk
In my country, to fit in translation, Perfect Peter was named Doskonały Damian. My best friend is named Damian, and he hates the character of Peter 😅

"Horrid Henry and the Catastrophic Cushion" I remember Peter being very manipulative towards Mum when she suggests Fluffy sleep outside.
Peter ...
"You can't do that mum"
"You would be a cruel and heartless mum if you made fluffy sleep outside ... and you're not a cruel and heartless mum are you"
The family then buy multiple beds for Fluffy which all get rejected and the episode finishes with Fluffy sleeping on HENRY'S new cushion
His name it screams I’m a tiny prick
Your portrayal of different parts within your video is not only entertaining but also structured and seemingly professional.
I believe that Peter portrayed similar characteristics within the the series quite obviously through his purposeful attempts at getting Henry in trouble, "look what Henry did"
Very kind!

Henry "breath"

Peter: MMMUUUMMM! Henry exists!
Henry And Peter's Mum: Don't be horrid, Henry!
If anyone is watching this video and knows they are on the psychopathy spectrum, just know that you’re not a monster❤ you still deserve to be safe, have friends who care about you and understand you, access medical support without stigma, and be loved in all the ways you can and can’t reciprocate within your personal construct of what that means for you❤
You are very entertaining and I love it! Keep up the good work 😂

Wow, thank you!
